This is probably irrelevant to most of you, but my second daughter just came into the world. Where do I go to share this news? Webdip.
In any event, she's healthy and I am one happy papa.

For the record YJ I am still attempting to defend everyone, you too, even if you are "suspicious." I don't think lynching today is a good idea, period. I hope some of the non-committed people will vote non-lynch and end this witch hunt before we have a dead townie.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Sorry, I was looking at the count you posted earlier.

Alright, per YJ's wishes:

##VOTE YJ
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Unofficial vote count:

No-lynch (4): Thucydides, Fasces349, AlexNesta, kasimax
Chaqa (4): captainmeme, VashtaNeurotic, krellin
Yellowjacket (3): y2kjbk, pjmansfield99, WardenDresden, Chaqa, Yellowjacket, abgemacht

Votes outstanding (5): TheMinisterOfWar, The Hanged Man, Seyvas, yebellz, TheJok3r
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
@Thucy

Are you kidding me? We're going to have a dead townie no matter what we do. What will it take to convince you lynching someone this turn is a necessary evil?
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Oh, the numbers are wrong. Should be 3 for Chaqa, 6 or Yellowjacket
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Why the fuck are you guys going to kill YJ.,. Just to lock you into an agreement to lynch me? It makes no sense.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
@abge: something extremely suspicious, or someone who is working a little too hard to get me killed
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
I'm convinced that Chaqa and YJ are working together. It's the only way YJ's crazy ruse makes any sense. The only way we find out is if we kill one of them.

Might as well by YJ since it's his fault Chaqa and him are in this mess.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Alright then, lynch away. I don't see why YJ would invite himself to be lynched knowing we will find out his identity after he is dead. Maybe I'm just not smart enough for this game lol
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
Thucy, assuming that the people who are voting to lynch YJ are going to vote for you as well just because he says they should seems a bit jumpy. While I do find him suspicious, and have already had my doubts with you, it's definitely a pause for concern when you provide that reaction. Even with your stance of wanting a no lynch, that seemed REALLY jumpy.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Yes, we are working together. Because you crazies are insistent upon lynching someone for no reason. To me the most suspicious person is you, abgemacht. I may disagree with krellin but he's given no reason to be a mafia member beyond being an ass. Thucy has likewise been fairly straightforward in his posts. Maybe they're working together, maybe not.

But you've been flip flopping all over for no real reason other than "suspicions".
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
How is it a cause for concern that I don't want to get lynched? As I said, me getting lynched would be bad for the town. Please don't find that out the hard way.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
"Because you crazies are insistent upon lynching someone for no reason."

Reasons have been provided on numerous occasions. Just because those reasons are not agreed on, does not make them for "no reason".
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Sigh this is going nowhere. Undoubtedly we are going to lynch a townie and be that much closer to defeat. I'm going to bed.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
Thucy, the logic I'm getting at is that YJ with his posting(while advocating for you to be lynched) has managed to rack up a mass of people willing to vote for him. To assume that we would follow his wishes after the fact while we already disagree with him seems a bit foolish.

Unless of course, you're sitting there knowing that he's going to flip town and you've got that guilty conscience.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Vanilla townspeople are not autonomous units. We're more like soldier ants. The sooner the rest of you see that, the more likely it is we win. My death will bring a wealth of information to the colony, and I will enjoy seeing thucy (and then probably abge) die in turn.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Likewise I'm going to bed. In the morning, I'll see how the winds have shifted.

If a good amount of people vote to lynch abgemacht, or to vote no lynch, I may change my vote.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
"But you've been flip flopping all over for no real reason other than "suspicions"."

I'm flip flopping because I don't *want* to kill someone, but I feel compelled to for reasons clearly laid out yesterday.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
"To assume that we would follow his wishes after the fact while we already disagree with him seems a bit foolish."

Spoken like a guy who isn't willing to sacrifice himself, Joker. Of COURSE you don't want them to follow my wishes after I die. But you can't hide the fact that after death, I become the most trustworthy person in the game.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
It happens Thucy. Innocents need to die for the greater good. From my perspective, I'd rather gain useful information and have a chance at whacking a mafia member than do nothing.

You keep claiming this is going nowhere, but this is one of the most productive Day 1's I've been apart of in a long time. There is A LOT of information going around. Just because this seems worthless to you right now and maybe tomorrow, it does not mean it will be worthless 4 days from now.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
I would also change my vote to lynch abge, thucy, joker, or y2k. Lots of intel to be had there. But I'm quite content to leave it on me as well.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Not from my view, YJ. One, we aren't all necessarily vanilla, two, if I am lynched it leaves the decisions later to the others, whose judgment I cannot account for.

I also am still really confused what "wealth of information" we will get when we lynch someone and find out they were a good guy, because that is more than likely what is going to happen.

I also still do not understand the "innocent people are going to be dead tomorrow anyway" argument. Yes, but if we lynch, even MORE of us will be dead.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
Where exactly did I say I don't want them to follow your wishes? My posts in regards to Thucy actually backed your sentiments. Please read my posts again and I think you'll find I was questioning Thucy's reaction quite a bit.

And sacrificing one's self is just foolish. You simply accomplish a, "told you so" in exchange for painting somebody badly because you had a gut feeling.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
"Yes, but if we lynch, even MORE of us will be dead."

This logic is true every damn day. What the actual fuck Thucy!
Thucydides (864 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
WHAT USEFUL INFORMATION???

Okay so we lynch YJ and discover he was a vanilla. So???? He doesn't know anything if that's true, and so all his "suspicions" will be useless information. We will only begin to know anything about anyone once people have started to die. No need to raise the death toll this phase.
Lots to process here. I still favor lynching someone. I'm not sure what to make of YJ drawing fire on himself, although I suppose it's at least somewhat effective because I don't think he's Mafia.

Intuitively, I get the most "funny feeling" about Chaqa. I went back and read all of his posts, and can't really point to any particular thing. Perhaps that's just my lack of game experience, but I'll go with my funny feeling and enter a vote.

##VOTE Chaqa
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Joker the first day is different because NONE OF US KNOWS ANYTHING. Hellooo
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
So Thucy, what makes you think the mafia or serial killer are going to kill anybody that the town wants dead to determine more information? You really don't think they can observe this discussion and see how lost we are? And realize they can kill certain people and tomorrow we have the same information? Please Based Thucy, see the light.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
@joker: I suppose you were.

But it's more than just a "gut feeling." I'd rather die this turn and have a baddie die next turn than sit on my thumbs this turn and lose 3 friendlies with little gain.

But since you're so convinced I'm a good guy all of a suddenly, maybe you'd be tempted to change your vote to lynch thucy, who you are so much less sure of?

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Underage Drinking
Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

Woody Allen, child molestor[?], given a lifetime achievement award.
So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
