This is probably irrelevant to most of you, but my second daughter just came into the world. Where do I go to share this news? Webdip.
In any event, she's healthy and I am one happy papa.

I honestly don't think Thucy is one of the Mafia. People who followed along with his no-lynch plan, though, are suspicious in my book.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
Also - side note: Games that don't have role reveal on death typically have janitors and coroners. And you have to wait a day to find our their alignment/role.
Currently I am going to stick with voting Chaqa because a) I believe there is a fair chance he is part of the mafia and
b) If he isn't I believe that his loss would be overly detrimental to the village, after all "he has said some questionable things"
c) I agree with Jok3r on Thucy, he still has a lot to say that can help us
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
So apparently being anti-lynch is "saying questionable things". Good to know.

I think you all need to go back and read everything I've said. My stances have been the same from the beginning:
1. No lynch in day 1
2. Doctor protect himself at night
3. Suspicion of those who are too eager to lynch

@Krellin - Focused for sure. I make a lot of playful jabs. Please don't take them personal.

@y2k - Could you elaborate what points you disagreed with? I don't recall your posts in question where you did. Although, I can probably assume it's just about my theories of lynching Day 1. That's about all that's been discussed today really.

Thucy doesn't make "idle comments." He's a planner, and a strategist. I am certain enough that thucy is foul that I will offer myself up as an equal sacrifice (kill me first, then him, or kill him first, and then maybe you won't even have to kill me).

But at this point, if I'm right, and we find out thucy is foul, we get a lot of information based on who's speaking up for him right now.

Joker has, indeed, been at odds with him publicly, but he also by his own admission has sufficient experience in this game to know that if they're both mafia it's good to "disagree" early on to keep up appearances.

Killing thucy now reveals quite a bit. If he's a mafia, it casts suspicion on abge, joker, and y2k as potential next targets. If he's not a mafia, it shows YJ is an idiot and deserves to die, and helps to clear abge, joker, and y2k.

Is there any other death that will now give us more information *no matter how it turns out*?
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Well, the deaths that would give the most information are likely Thucy, krellin, myself, Joker, or abgemacht, as we've all been very active.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
yeah but nobody has spoken up in your defense, Chaqa, despite so many votes cast against you. Look how many chimed in all anti - thucykill within like 3 minutes and I'm the only person who's suggested he is foul.

Telling. Very telling.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Yes... you make a convincing argument.

Sorry Thucy, but they make a lot of sense. Why has so much gone toward me and not to you, when you've been much more vocal and openly against krellin et all.

#VOTE Thucy
YJ, you are making good points, killing Thucy would be a wealth of information. However, I am using the idea of risk reward. Chaqa has been supporting Thucy since the beginning, and may be working with him. Chaqa carries less risk if we are wrong as Thucy still has plenty of information in life, whereas Chaqa can provide more information in death as to what kind of person is on the side of no lynch. Though I am still of open mind to suggestions, as I really don't want to be wrong on who I pick.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Woops.

##VOTE Thucy
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Also, and isn't this interesting:

abge, joker, and y2k had already formed a pro-lynching block (against 2WL/now me before I even got here and started yakking), and they are also all in favor of leaping to thucy's defense within 30 seconds.

Telling. VERY telling.
This vote will be close I believe,as I am on the fence in my mind currently.

@YJ

I'm not so sure about all that. I think the reasons for voting against 2nd were straight-forward enough for almost anyone to agree to.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
What I'd like to know is why YJ is going out of his way to draw attention to himself to save Chaqa. Is it because you're both mafia?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
@Vashta: Chaqa could have been just mistaken. We have to look for patterns and inconsistencies, and the only people who have displayed those are the ones I've mentioned.

It doesn't guarantee anything, but it's a place to start.
I believe our three best options are the ones who have votes for them: Thucy, Chaqa and Abgemacht. Thucy has been very vocal and defended by the pro-lynch block, Chaqa seems to be a vanilla pick to lynch, as I believe his death is neutral if wrong, and possible even neutral if I'm right. Abge has been the most sketchy of the pro-lynchers, and I also don't like the fact that he has put a Finger of Suspicion(learned that term from Fasces) on me earlier.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
abge: it could be.

As I said before, I'm happy to die 1st round or kill chaqa first round if next round we target thucy. I'd say better to kill me then chaqa, because I know I'm vanilla, and he might be important.

Will thucy make the same deal?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Why so sad?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@YJ

I think we can agree that both Thucy and Chaqa are unlikely to be Mafia. So, yes, if Chaqa ends up being innocent, we can go for Thucy next (sorry, friend). I think it's a waste, but if it helps clear me, I won't stand in the way of it.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Look, I don't like being railroaded like this. So if the lynch Chaqa people find another suitable candidate, I will vote for them. As of now I'm voting Thucy. Let me know.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Well, this has been an interesting turn of events. Right now I'm with YJ in that the most telling choices would be Chaqa, Thucy, or YJ. He may be offering that "sacrificial" lynch idea as a ploy. I for one wouldn't say "kill me if I made a poor guess on day one," and I'm a townie playing to win. But the rise in defensiveness is certainly more telling than I think the debate on whether we should lynch was. Yet, I have the feeling that Thucy ISN'T mafia.

At the same time I don't feel like Chaqa is either, and his vote seems more like natural self defense, so I'm going to say we take YJ up on his offer of being lynched first and call his bluff. ##VOTE Yellowjacket
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
@theJoker, sorry if I was confusing, it was Thucy's points I disagree with, mainly surrounding the no-lynching.

@YJ, go ahead and kill off Thucy, I just don't think he's mafia, and clearly I'm not alone in thinking that.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
I still feel like Abge is more likely a mafia than any of the current choices, but I'm willing to defer that until later as it seems things are finally coming to a head for day 1.
Yes, but remember, currently No lynch is still winning, even with Chaqa flip, they have 4, i think YJ and Chaqa are at 3. Even if YJ is at 4, Thucy's early vote means No lynch wins. So we need one more person.
Sorry, with abge Chaqa is at 4.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Well hang on there abge, I said I would be willing to kill chaqa first, not that it's the right play. The right play is to kill thucy first, and then we probably won't have to kill chaqa at all.

And why are you insisting it should be chaqa? I already told you I'm vanilla. If I'm offering myself instead, you should be taking that offer if you're a vanilla citizen.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
No problem, if nobody does anything, chaqa, both you and I flip to "kill YJ."

Then YJ has 5 and that trumps the "no kill," right?

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Underage Drinking
Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

Woody Allen, child molestor[?], given a lifetime achievement award.
So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
