Thucy - you, sigh....are again under the impression that the bloc was supposed to be a permanent tool used every day until the end, blah blah blah....you will note that I voluntarily abandoned it as well...blah blah blah...

Good lord, I guess I'm the scape goat. whatever. God forbid people take responsibility for their own bad choices.

As an idea for a next game, I'd like to propose a 4th party. The way I usually play the game, there is no sk, but there is a tragic love couple as 3rd party. But I see no reason why it would not work with the couple and the sk together in one game ...

The tragic love couple are one mafia and one vanilla town. If one of them dies, the other one dies too out of grief. Their goal in the game is to be the last 2 surviving players. They know who their tragic love partner is, but in difference to the mafia, they have no way to communicate, except the usual global day thread. If the cop investigates them, he reads vanilla town or mafia - their secret connection stays hidden to the cop.
Actually ... if Krellin would not have been the cop in this game, Abge and him would have been a perfect example for how to play these roles ...
Oh, damn, what.

Busy day today, sorry for dropping the ball lol.

abgemacht was the last mafia, looks like he won. I'll write a real endgame post in a little while, I was planning on y'all not ending early (which was in retrospect silly).

@Krellin: "then the mafia wasn't very good if I was that obvious."

I figured you were the cop at the end of day 2. I was unsure of whether it was you or Jok3r - Jok3r because of his immediate Thucy vote with no explanation (making me think that Jok3r may have investigated Thucy and found him to be the SK) or you because of your sudden change in opinion towards Thucy. When Jok3r died, I knew it was you. You can check the mafia QT if you want - I mentioned you were the cop on the second night, but we decided there were better targets.

I said I realised who the cop was the next day because you were trying to lynch me for continuing to throw doubt on Thucy, iirc, and by changing my viewpoint on Thucy and trying to attribute that to me realising you were the cop, and getting this all across to you subliminally, I thought I would stop you coming after me. I was evidently wrong.
Sevyas (973 D)

Abge suspected me to be the cop for a while as well
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Yeah, there was a long time I thought Sev was the cop.

No krellin I take my share of blame for setting the bloc up. I should have thought about it longer before suggesting it so strongly, since once that's done you can't well escape it without sending suspicions flying. I think the bloc's existence led to the primary basis for lynching being not fitting in with the group during discussion rather than focusing on posthumous defense and prosecutions of known dead townies and mafia, and accompanying voting patterns.

Instead it was like "kill the sticks in the mud, the quiet, the newbies, the weirdos", which I feel I helped to instigate by promoting the bloc. I blame the bloc for why my sage pre-death advice was ignored. A murdered man's last words should always be closely scrutinized.

I like the Sevyas suggestion. If we have a larger amount of people, it could work in addition to the SK.
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
The thing I like most about the couple is that it generates a certain amount of mistrust between the cleared townies, and between the mafia as well.

I definitely want a chance to play this again as a good guy trying to figure out WTF is going on, rather than spend all my energy spewing bullshit that hopefully will fly under the radar. Not to say it wasn't fun, it definitely was, but I prefer the other side.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
Sev, I would think the mafia half of that relationship would just tell his buddies who he was in love with. That way they at least wouldn't kill the other half. Assuming we add that feature, should it be a rule that the mafia guy can't explicitly tell his team who it is, or would you rather that be a play choice?
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
If the mafia in love tells the other mafia about his relation, they will know he has a different agenda and will have no problem to kill him or his Vanilla love. They would get 2 with one shot.
There is also no rule that forbids the mafia to out themselves in the global thread ... but it would not serve their goal
pjmansfield99 (100 D)

Well done mod mafia! Very much enjoyed this and observing it since I got lynched. My first time ever but would love to play again and feel I have a better understanding.
AlexNesta (239 D)

GG mafia!
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
The couple in fact is not town and not mafia - they have their own agenda -> survive the game together. If they die and find comfort in the fact that "their side" (town or mafia) wins the game ... then that's their choice, but they will still have lost
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
@ Abge, you still owe me a reaction to my comment about your night post which you wisely chose to ignore even when I reposted it 2 or 3 times ;-)
I was actually pretty sure I'd have convinced Krellin with that post, and that he only temporarily voted me and end to go fishing for mafias to jump on the end-wagon ... I guess I was wrong with that ...
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
Which one was that, Sev?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
The one where he totally called you out as an obvious mafia and made the most eloquent argument yet as to exactly why you needed to die :)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
Oh. Well, yeah, it was very well reasoned, which is why I chose to ignore it and did my best to have people forget about it : )
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
That one:
So, if I understand you correct, you suggest that Abge and I are the remaining mafia? If my last post finally gets you to seriously consider Abge as mafia, then good!
Let's lynch him first - and if you absolutely want to lynch me next, then my death will at least not have been in vain.

It's funny how you see this non existing link between Abge and me, in the same time admire him for his brilliant analytic mind, yet fail to see the obvious:
Abge and I are the 2 top suspects of the remaining players.

Let's assume Abge is town:
Why should the mafia waste a nightkill on him? He is likely to get lynched anyway today or tomorrow. While nightkilling him would definitely clear him as town, and the number of potential mafia would shrink. The mafia will choose their target among the officially known to be townies in order to keep everyone else guessing about the remaining suspects.

No I do not help the mafia by posting this - believing they did not already get this idea themselves would mean to dangerously underestimate them

So it is hiiiiiighly unlikely that Abge will get nightkilled. But then, if he is the analytic mastermind that Krellin believes him to be, then he must be aware of the fact that he is not really in danger to get nightkilled. If you look at his last post from this point of view, that post (if I would have needed something more in order to suspect him) would have been proof for me that he is mafia. He tries to paint the picture of a scared innocent townie who wants to remind the remaining players of his "top suspects" (while knowing very well that he will not die tonight)

Abge said "If people are hesitant about following my advice, I hope it is because you find me suspicious, not because you think my ability to analyze situations is poor." followed by "If I'm murdered tonight (...)"
This is either proof of poor ability to analyze situations, or proof of him being mafia. And no matter what of both is true, this means noone should folow him and he should be the next lynch
To clarify, I did not intend to attack krellin or his personal play style. I meant my last post as a post mortem comment on the bloc concept. People definitely could have told krellin to fuck off and ignored him (just like in Forum!). I do not blame krellin for the Mafia win. I'm saying the bloc concept, as implemented the way it was on the day when krellin was driving that train, benefited the Mafia.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
Yeah, Sev, I royally fucked up and it was very bad for me that you noticed.
Sevyas (973 D)
29 Apr 14 UTC
For some reason noone of the remaining players seemed to even notive that post - not even when I reposted it later ...

Sooo, before going to bed I'd like to misuse this threads popularity to find a replacement player for achillies27 in the 2014 - 7 games wta series.

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
