No...you were not right. You changed your vote and lost the game for us, by your final act. I owe you no apology. If you were right and knew it, you wouldn't have changed.

Don't be such a sheep. Be your own man, for crying our loud. I also said enough times I suspected abge of being mafia hiding in plain sight - it was only because Vash was such an argumentative, anti-townie putz at times. whatever...I was **one** vote...count it...ONE. I'm not to blame, unless you are all confessing that you are just mindless sheep....thus openly verifying for me what I have said about many of you for a lonnnnng time now...lol

In all honesty, though, people shouldn't be so hard on krellin. He did a number of things that really helped the town. His bloc idea was excellent and I'm shocked everyone didn't jump on board.

LOL and seriously, PE, what the hell making all the mods mafia?!?!
krellin (80 DX)
29 Apr 14 UTC
It was good as any other shot-in-the-dark, Black Eyed Pea "I've got a feeling" vote. It wasn't as effective as it should be in part because the first day it was "used" the power was given to someone who took the power, cast his vote and LEFT....thus totally neutering the tool on the day it would have the most power (i.e. before mafia could talk at night and figure out how to react to it).
krellin (80 DX)

All the mods mafia, and krellin the cop. Brilliant.

Well done, Abge - I feel mentally abused by you, but it's wholly apropriate you. Sadly (for you) I think this means you understand me better than you would ever care to openly admit! lol
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
The thing I didn't like as a spectator was how quickly the points-based vote was discounted. For a long time there, yebellz and Sevyas (I Think it was them) were getting people's suspicions list and ranking them. abgemacht topped these lists, and despite every person who suspected abgemacht geting killed, no one thought of that.

Plus, Vash was nearly lynched on Days 1 and 2 and was only saved by last minute votes by innocents.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
On the contrary, the bloc stifles discussion, which is the only weapon apart from examining the voting record that the town has. It was an experiment, but it really fails in that there is no reason for the mafia NOT to join it, since joining reduces suspicion, and only innocents would then be targeted. Hell, it even protects the mafia inside the bloc from suspicion for killing an innocent, since it was "the bloc" and not them who killed.

As it turns out the bloc is really only a great move for the mafia.

As for the final day--really wish you had stuck to your guns on Abge there Fasces. So close, and yet not enough. I really hoped you would take my claim of doc more as a cry for help though, and not saved krellin the last day. As far as I knew, abg wasn't completely sure which of the two of us was doc, so he would target me twice in a row to ensure the kill (since doc can't self save twice) but I guess I just misdirected you and confused everyone instead.

GG All around though. #ModsMafiaConspiracy

I'll just say- as an outsider reading the posts on and off over the last month, I was frequently wrong, but I was really surprised by two things: 1. That abge never got killed and 2. That The Hanged Man was seen as so suspicious in the beginning. Those were the only 2 people I felt almost sure about.
krellin (80 DX)
29 Apr 14 UTC
I probably would have voted with Vash against abge if he had done one simple thing: Admit he had made a mistake...he held his ground against me to the end, instead of saying, "Yeah...maybe the bloc would have worked" and "Yeah, I was stupid about suspecting Fasces" etc. A simple act of humility on his part would have radically changed my feelings towards him; instead, he was almost downright insulting. I have no regrets.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
So, I have to admit though, my plan for this game didn't work at all.

I knew I could handle a barrage of suspicion (although I didn't think I'd do this well). My plan was to act as obnoxious as possible to drive suspicion from my mafia friends. I figured I'd last to day 3 or 4 and then I'd have the mafia vote to lynch me, thus securing their spot as innocent townies.

That all went to shit when Thucy decided to be the best vig ever and got two mafia killed in one turn.

I then had a bit of an oh shit moment and had to seriously back peddle my craziness, which I didn't think I'd be able to do.
krellin (80 DX)
29 Apr 14 UTC
"On the contrary, the bloc stifles discussion,"

Bullshit. IT WASN'T USED. When Fasces had the bloc, he voted and LEFT. When I had the bloc, I switched votes and created discussion. Saying it stifled discussion is dead wrong, since it wasn’t being used.
krellin (80 DX)
29 Apr 14 UTC
Warden – I targetted Captainmeme because I percieved him as seeing the bloc as a threat, a process by the town to root out the mafia. Nobody knew how it would work (or nt work), so fearing a simple process to me was guilty-behavior. So if the bloc process rooted out 1 of 4 mafia, then it was successful. It didn’t have to be the Bloc itself – it was the reaction TO the bloc, reaction TO an organized town process that spooked him.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
All the bloc did was cause confusion and stubbornness. Case in point: krellin supported abgemacht over all because abgemacht wholeheartedly supported the bloc, whereas yebellz, Sevyas, Warden, Vash did not fully suppor tit.
@krellin: The problem is the block stifled discussion, and I did admit that Fasces was clearly the doc late in the game. I will admit maybe I was a little too proud, but my goal was not to win over you krellin. I only needed one person to vote abge and I figured I could convince Fasces easier than you. What I did ot expect was Fasces flipping due to your insistence.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
Vash you really hurt yourself by insisting Fasces could be guilty. If you hadn't done that, I think you would have won.
yebellz (729 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
I supported the bloc mostly, but I got on the shit list for not following fasces on day 4.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
29 Apr 14 UTC
But there's no motivation for the mafia to disagree with the bloc, and thus become a target of it. And instead of properly defending themselves, the innocents who were targeted simply gave up and voted for themselves, because, with the bloc tool, if one person (the leader) felt you in any way suspicious, you were dead. Bloc commitment was a horrible way to judge mafia guilt. Abg is proof of that. (Also, in PE's analysis on the God thread, he supported the proposition that the bloc was a negative achievement.)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 14 UTC
If implemented properly, I think the bloc could have been very beneficial. The problem was we had absentee leaders and a town that wasn't committed to the bloc.

*shrug* in the god thread we have been discussing whether krellin would ever vote for abge since ~ day 5. I don't see what else you could have done, vash. Yebellz, Sevyas, and you all offered superb breakdowns of the situation, and were wholly ignored and then sacrificed.

I don't entirely blame krellin - as he says he's only one vote. The rest of the town needed to think for themselves a bit more and not just go with what he says. It was fasces decision to "defer" that cast the deciding vote, and it was this type of thinking that got the town in trouble over and over again.

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
