This is probably irrelevant to most of you, but my second daughter just came into the world. Where do I go to share this news? Webdip.
In any event, she's healthy and I am one happy papa.

Actually, how about this?

2ndWhiteLine has expressed that he doesn't want to continue. There are already 4 who wish to lynch him. If he wants out, why not all vote to lynch him? Satisfies the lynchers, the non-lynchers (since he wants out anyway), 2WL, and lets the cop gather intel.

Thoughts?

Anyone who votes to lynch me will be silenced for one week.
krellin (80 DX)

Chaqa, other than defending myself from personal attacks by Thucy and you, I have specifically not tried to mention others. I it easy for me to suggest that the "ha ha...let's lynch him for outside reason...wink win....just kidding..." is perhaps a very coy move by a/some mafia member/s - to try to persuade others for seemingly innocuous reasons. What you see as innocent behavior, I view differently.

You were angry at ME specifically for "stirring up trouble"....even though my stance was *no different* than others at the time...and yet you were specifically angry at me. Again, highly suspicious, to me.

If I am to view the collective actions/words of those present, I have found that I have been mentioned as a possible target ironically by two people that claim they don't want to lynch! Paradoxical to call out a target, while saying you don't want to lynch. Possible motivations? You are trying to persuade others to do your dirty work...or possibly trying to persuade others to do nothing, so that the mafia will have a stronger voting block.

Or just paranoid delusions...but they are all I have to run with at the moment.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
I believe YJ expressed an interest - I'll bet he would take 2WL's spot.
Actually, the first day has not ended, so if PE can find a replacement who is willing to catch up and has not joined the out of game spectator chat, 2WL can be replaced, a much fairer judgement as I have expressed my distaste for doing something like voting out a non-participant when there a better suspects, especial if he can just be replaced.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
@Chaqa - again, calling me out: "krellin and others" Really?

Reaffirming my vote for you.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
I was not the *8th* to vote...and yet you call me out as the one that wants to lynch? Wow...
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
My joking statement came about 3 minutes after the game started. How could I possibly have had time to coordinate this with anyone, or think it through? It was a joking statement and you're blowing it way out of proportion.

Like I said, go back and look at all my posts. If my motivations aren't clear, then there's no use in us talking, because we have a very different view of how to play the game.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
krellin, if you look at my post counts, you've been the most vocal in the game, and you've been pro-lynch all game.

Why are you so paranoid and worried? You seem awfully defensive.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
So you have played the game before, and therefore know how to strategize. Yeah, really not hard to believe someone could have motivations in mind early on from past history on how to target someone, and then present your plan to others and see if they will go along. If they do, good for you. If not, no harm done; laugh it off.

I'm actually complimenting you, Chaqa - suggesting that you are wise, strategic and devious. No need for you to be insulted.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
See, you've once again completely analyzed an opinion that isn't there.

This is my first time playing the game. But I believe that at this point, it is unwise to lynch ANYONE (except the 2WL example as I explained above, for him leaving the game willingly).
So, PE, what are we to do, it seems 2WL wants a replacement, do you have anyone in mind
I do. For now continue playing as though he's here and just lurking, I'm working on it

So are the people who voted 2WL's votes transferred or reset?

##Yellowjacket
Transferred. Think of the votes as for a particular player slot; 2ndWhiteLine was in slot #12, and now Yellowjacket has replaced him in slot #12. All votes for 2ndWhiteLine are now votes for Yellowjacket, and had 2WL voted (I don't think he has yet), his vote would now be Yellowjacket's vote.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Alright. So can we get an updated vote count?
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
All Hail YJ.
krellin (80 DX)
04 Apr 14 UTC
To those that voted strategically based upon 2WL's silence...it might be wise to reconsider your vote, as the assumption you possibly tied to it (his silence was indicative of nefarious motivations...) is probably not true; it was just laziness and a lack of heart.
Vote Count Update the Sixth

Chaqa (3): captainmeme, VashtaNeurotic, krellin
Yellowjacket (4): TheJok3r, y2kjbk, pjmansfield99, abgemacht
abgemacht (1): WardenDresden
No-lynch (5): Thucydides, Chaqa, Fasces349, AlexNesta, kasimax

Votes outstanding (5): TheMinisterOfWar, The Hanged Man, Yellowjacket, Seyvas, yebellz

Currently NO ONE is set to be lynched!

Roughly 22.5 hours remain.
Actually, minor formatting fix. In this and future vote counts, the top vote set indicates the vote set with the oldest vote. In this case Thucydides's vote for a no-lynch is the oldest active vote. Essentially, if there's a tie with the vote sets, the top vote set involved in the tie has the tiebreaker.

Vote Count Update the Sixth Point Five

No-lynch (5): Thucydides, Chaqa, Fasces349, AlexNesta, kasimax
Chaqa (3): captainmeme, VashtaNeurotic, krellin
Yellowjacket (4): TheJok3r, y2kjbk, pjmansfield99, abgemacht
abgemacht (1): WardenDresden

Votes outstanding (5): TheMinisterOfWar, The Hanged Man, Yellowjacket, Seyvas, yebellz

Currently NO ONE is set to be lynched!

Roughly 22.5 hours remain.

I'm with krellin. The main motivation for me voting for 2nd was his silence (note, not his Silence). I'd like to hear what YJ has to say before I decide if I want to lynch him.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
Also, what the shit, Warden. Seriously?
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
##Vote Unvote or whatever it is to denote I haven't placed a vote yet. No reason for me to have a vote for YJ when he could very well provide discussion.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
04 Apr 14 UTC
So, what's the plan here, guys? We don't have that much time to decide what to do. We probably don't want to rush-lynch someone at the last minute.
Well, we do have three going chaqa, so there is that option.
Know what would be even dumber? Suggesting the lynching of a low-volume poster, then failing to post much oneself. Clearly, the volume of traffic on this thread is going to require more than the occasional phone check in.

I don't have an opinion yet re 2WL. I'll need to go back and read the pro and con arguments. When I first suggested lynching a low volume contributor, I did say it should be someone who had posted at least once that day.
TheJok3r (765 D)
04 Apr 14 UTC
Chaqa has definitely said some questionable things that don't really make sense at times, but that fits in line with his claim that he's never played before.

I'm really not sure who to vote for. I know I've done a fair bit of arguing with Thucy on our differences over handling Day 1, but I sure as hell don't want to vote somebody who's been a high contributor. That's just silly.

If we're going to vote for somebody, I'd recommend somebody inactive who's not contributing a heck of a lot. If they're not posting, they're not really helping either. It's a minimal loss if we're wrong really.

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Underage Drinking
Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

Woody Allen, child molestor[?], given a lifetime achievement award.
So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
