Off-topic: Browser Game
I've been playing a little browser game that lets you built up a squad of soldiers and customize them in order for them to fight automatically against other opponents.
It's quite nifty overall if you get into it and only take a couple of minutes each day.

Credibility issues after stabbing
Hey everyone,
I had a little issue I was curious about on stabbing: is that really the path to winning this game? I always find it a waste of good faith-building in an alliance to resort to simple terrain nicking at some point when you have so many more options (see follow up):

People missing orders
Argh! The first two games I play on here, two powers failed to submit Spring 1901 orders, which really fucks things up. :( I wish there was some sort of penalty for this or that webdiplomacy would send emails when a game starts and when you have orders due...

**OFFICIAL - Summer Gunboat News**
Really sorry about the delay with game three. It will happen as soon as we figure out the technical issue with replacing this one player. I think we're going to forgo the 4th game (round 2 only has 3 anyway), that way the first leg will be done by end-June, leaving July for the second leg and August for the finals.

"No offense Santa, but when three out of the four games that you were in end in another person's solo, you should take a step back and analyze the situation further before blaming other people... I for one am glad that you haven't made it to the next round."

Just saw this. How about you take a step back for me and tell me how I possibly caused even one of those solos. I am under the impression (and everyone who has looked at the games as well) is under the impression it was bad luck. Id love to hear your point of view.

Your decision not to move Black in 3-F was obviously to suggest a Jugg, but then you didn't support Bulg after attacking Greece... after that, Austria could NMR and still dominate the south. I don't even know what you were doing in the England game. You convoyed to Norway, but then expected Russia to ally with you. And in game 1-E you literally forced the Juggernaut into existence by leaving Russia with no other ally.

No one is suggesting you single-handedly turned over the win, but without a doubt, poor play in 4-D and 3-F contributed to the solos.

Santa, don't take it so hard, there's always next year. I'm sure your streak of "bad luck" will have ended by then.
"Your decision not to move Black in 3-F was obviously to suggest a Jugg, but then you didn't support Bulg after attacking Greece..."

And... How did that contribute to anything? It was one bad move, one which i have admitted. Yet lets not pay attention to the whole rest of the game where Italy helped Austria get whatever the fuck he wanted. Lets not forget your shittily managed tournament allowing france to go NMR futhrt screwing up the balance

"I don't even know what you were doing in the England game. You convoyed to Norway, but then expected Russia to ally with you."

i never expected Russia to ally with me. Are you retarded? I went all out against Russia in order to stop the jugg. I made an obvious misorder, again an early mistake that had little to do with the final outcome. Little did I know France (Alex) was an idiot and saw a SC open so he went for it. I crumbled in scandanavia, Russia got 2 SCs on top of his success in the south, and France was of course oblivious and continued to try to invade the english isles. So theres the ball game. Again, where is my fault in the solo?

"And in game 1-E you literally forced the Juggernaut into existence by leaving Russia with no other ally."

Are you retarded? Listen Geo, I understand you dont like me, and that is mostly my fault for not checking my E-mail once, and daring to question how a game could continue to be played after an important power NMRs. But christ man. I "forced" a Juggernaut. Sure Russia had options with a turkish fleet in the black sea, he sure looked like he wanted an ally in Austria after he supported a move into Galicia. And what about Englands boneheaded attacks? What about the inexplicable Austrian move into Munich when I was tying to help him? The Juggernaut was dead if 2 idiots (and 1 of them twice) didnt make foolish stabs. But of course Geo, completely my fault as Alex said. Great glad I could have a meeting of the minds with you two.

"Little did I know France (Alex) was an idiot" - and you wonder why you suck at diplomacy...
I guess it was my unpleasant demeanor that caused the solos in a gunboat, right alex?
AlexNesta (239 D)
11 Aug 11 UTC
In this tournament, three out of four games that you were in ended in another player's solo... I'm sure it's a statistical aberration, it can't be your fault. After all, in Gunboat there is no communication and you can act like a jerk without any consequences.
lol w/ alexnesta. Funny stuff.
Funny how? Again Alex comes in and says its my fault with providing nothing. There are people other than me earlier in this thread complaining about your play. Meanwhile I confronted the future solo 3 times in the 3 games that were lost only to be stabbed or ignored. I understand people are going to line up against me because Im being vocal about it (just like LC is lining up behind it despite supporting me in the other thread) but again, I had very little to do with any of the 3 solos. Alex had everything to do with one of them.

This stuff happens. In the finals of the previous tournament I had my part in causing one of the solos and only noticed that after questioning another player, that explained it to me quite clearly. Fortunately, we didn't get too angry about it.
Im still wondering what my part is...

@Santa - throwing insults to the tournament director doesn´t help your case and neither get people to simpathize with you. I don´t think normally only one people can be blamed for a solo (with exception on CDs or really, really poor play). Usually all the survivors and even some of the defeated share some part of the responsability.......

I'm curious.

Does the WINNER deserve any of the credit for a solo?

For my part, I stabbed my ally,Turkey, in Autumn 1904 and played against the other six Great Powers until I soloed in Autumn 1917.

Thirteen flawlessly played Dip years alone against the field has to count for something, no?

How can I join this tournament next year?
Maple:

I gave you credit earlier in the thread, you saw the shit show that was forming and you exploited it, and well at that fact, you never slowed down. I never wanted to denegrate your play

"throwing insults to the tournament director doesn´t help your case and neither get people to simpathize with you. Don't care if people sympathize with me, and when the tourney directer comes in and takes moves completely out of context in order to show im a shitty gunboat player, he'll take what he gets. The question was, am I a major cause of 3 (or even 2 of the 3) solos that occurred, the answer is no despite what our esteemed tourney director suggests.

I keep seeing the Summer Gunboat News thread popup and I get a bit excited every time I see it thinking, in vain, that the next round has started.

I have stopped keeping up to date with the rants about Santa's games - but if they need to continue can they at least be moved to a different thread? This is hardly 'news', it's boring and frankly hijacking the purpose of this thread. You have the right to air your grievances but at least do it somewhere else where the rest of us who are actually interested in Gunboat News can get updates without that hassle of sifting through this bullshit?

Thanks,
Sargmacher.
nope, it will continue, I am sorry for the inconvenience though ;)

You have no need or reason to dominate this thread in such a way. I have created a new thread for your side-issues and hope you will move them there: http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?threadID=754841#754841
There was already another thread, the *reason* the discussion was in this thread is because Alex chose to use this thread to bring it up *here* so i responded in this thread. I already made another thread here: http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?threadID=749967 that was ignored. If you don't like it mute me or ban me, and in lieu of those options deal with it.
Geofram (130 D(B))

Santa, I never meant to infer that you were the sole factor in a player soloing. As many have suggested here, it is mainly the winner that makes it happen, and beyond that, it is poor play by others around him that can claim fault. In my opinion, you played poorly. But regardless of me being correct in that assertion; to automatically lay fault at the hands of the tournament and take no blame on your self, is just juvenile.

I am sorry if anyone else thinks I have poorly managed the tournament. I'd hope some disagree, as I cannot imagine how, given that I am not a moderator, I could have performed my duties any better. Perhaps faster, I do wish the tournament were well into the second round by now, and I apologise for that, but I've replaced every player the moment they went CD and kept everyone up to date. I hope that counts for something.

@Sarg and others. I'll be making a new thread the moment round two starts. And as soon as the 21st slot is decided, I am ready to seed and send out the first game's assignments. The next two games will follow as soon as those first games start.

200001: A Past Legacy
Every human life on Earth, tomorrow, suddenly vanishes. Mankind is gone for good. But you learn that by the year 200001, either the Apes will rise, or space aliens will come along...SOMEONE will populate Earth once more, and wonder who used to live here. You build a Mt. Mankind: 10 Heads of anyone who's ever lived, and one relic/piece of work of theirs to tell the future who humans were. Who, and what, do you choose?

Idea for a new betting system: % instead of # of points
I'd like to suggest a new option in which the required bet for a game is an equal percentage of a player's total points (including those in play) instead of a set number of points. In practice, the relative investment for all players would be more equal and could encourage underdogs to take on the richest players on the site.
