This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just some general trends we've been noticing:
1) Please make sure the email in your profile is up-to-date and you check it regularly.
2) Please remember that there is to be *no* communication in gunboat games, no matter how innocuous.

Chance calculations, little help?
Example: I throw a 6-sided die 6 times. How many chance do I have to throw at least one 6 in 1 throw? Any calculation I can think of says 100%, but I'm sure as hell there's a chance to not throw one 6... I do understand the average should be one time per six throws though.

I'm firmly of the belief that they have most personalities covered pretty well. I, for example, am firmly a Rabbit. What about YOU!?? Don't mix and match, and don't pick that little dicknob Christopher Robin unless you are a man and enjoy penises that don't belong to you.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien sorry for sexual misconduct
That's nice .... if there were real justice in this world he would get the opportunity to tell a judge in a court of law how sorry he was, I wonder how sorry he was before he was 'outed' as a paedophile.

Cardinal complainant 'faced warning'
Pope appoints O'Brien's replacement
Profile: Cardinal Keith O'Brien

Cardinal Keith O'Brien has admitted that his sexual conduct has at times "fallen beneath the standards expected of me".

In a statement, he apologised and asked forgiveness from those he had "offended".

He also apologised to the Catholic Church, and to the people of Scotland.

The cardinal resigned last Monday after three priests and a former priest made allegations of improper behaviour against him.

Cardinal O'Brien had been Britain's most senior Roman Catholic cleric when he stood down as the Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

At the time, he said he would not take part in the election for a successor to Pope Benedict.

Analysis

The public admission of sexual misconduct by Britain's most senior Roman Catholic cleric, Cardinal Keith O'Brien, former head of the Church in Scotland, could not have come at a more embarrassing moment for the Vatican.

In a few hours time, his fellow Cardinals from around the world gather in Rome for preliminary discussions on the choice of a successor to Pope Benedict, who resigned last month.

Cardinal O'Brien had his resignation as Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh accepted last week by the former Pope - now known as Pope Emeritus.

He made it clear he would not be attending the conclave although it is normally a duty of all cardinals under the age of 80 to take part in the election process - known as a Conclave.

The Rome gathering is already overshadowed by allegations of scandal, intrigue and betrayal among the Vatican hierarchy.

The credibility of the Roman Catholic Church will be further damaged by Cardinal O'Brien's confession of inappropriate sexual behaviour

The statement issued through the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland read: "In recent days certain allegations which have been made against me have become public. Initially, their anonymous and non-specific nature led me to contest them.

"However, I wish to take this opportunity to admit that there have been times that my sexual conduct has fallen below the standards expected of me as a priest, archbishop and cardinal.

"To those I have offended, I apologise and ask forgiveness. To the Catholic Church and people of Scotland, I also apologise.

"I will now spend the rest of my life in retirement. I will play no further part in the public life of the Catholic Church in Scotland."

The cardinal - who initially said he was taking legal advice when the allegations against him were made public - had been due to retire later this month when he turned 75.

The former priest and three current priests from the diocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh complained to the Pope's representative to Britain, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, in early February about what they alleged had been inappropriate behaviour towards them in the 1980s.

The ex-priest told the Observer he was disappointed by the "cold disapproval" he faced for "daring to break ranks".

He also claimed to have only gone public because he feared the matter was in danger of being swept under the carpet by the church.

Last week, the Observer reported that the former priest had claimed Cardinal O'Brien made an inappropriate approach to him in 1980, after night prayers, when he was a seminarian at St Andrew's College, Drygrange.
Inappropriate contact

A second statement from another complainant said he had been living in a parish when he was visited by Cardinal O'Bren, and inappropriate contact had taken place between them.

A third complainant alleged he faced what he described as "unwanted behaviour" by the cardinal in the 1980s after some late-night drinking.

The fourth complainant claimed the cardinal used night prayers as an excuse for inappropriate contact, the newspaper said.

Cardinal O'Brien, who was born in Ballycastle, Co Antrim, had been the Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh since 1985.

He has been an outspoken opponent of plans to legalise same-sex marriage in Scotland and was named "bigot of the year" by gay rights charity Stonewall last year.

In an interview with BBC Scotland shortly before the allegations against him were made public, the cardinal said he believed priests should be able to marry and have children if they wished.

He said it was clear many priests struggled to cope with celibacy.

Nothing he did was a crime, Nigee. Hitting on other priests is not a criminal offense as they are adults who can say no.

Nigee what the fuck are you on about? There are no allegations that this man has sexually assaulted any child - other than the one you just made. His sexual misdemanours concern other adults.
Maniac (189 D(B))
04 Mar 13 UTC
Actually his actions aren't misdemeanours as I understand it an adult male can proposition other adult males and even, shock horror, engage in homosexual acts without breaking the law. His actions may not have been welcome, but women get propositioned and harasses all the time and either deal with it or raise the issue to their superiors. These guys have raised the issue and the cardinal has thought it best to resign. I hope he will reflect on some of his comments which have been construed as being homophobic but he is an old man who, by all accounts did a lot of good work, let's not demonise him.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

I've made a subtle ironic reference to comments made in a gay hate speech by the Cardinal (before we was outed) that linked gays to incest/paedophilia. I had a quick look for the details on-line but cannot see the story; to be fair I got that info from 5-Live but not corroborate as I did not hear that speech first-hand. You're right he isn't directly accused of paedophilia but he suggested the link not me.
Nothing actually wrong with being gay or propositioning men, if you don't ask you don't get.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Nigee suffers from that personality disorder that equates homosexuality with pedophilia. The fact that a 15 year old boy having sex with a 26 year old teacher makes the teacher a heterosexual pedophile eludes him.

Ahhhh just thought, I don't know how old the victims were in the 1980s. The age of consent was only reduced from 21 in 1994 so if the victims were under 21 then it would have been criminal to engage in homosexual acts in 1980s
Draugnar (0 DX)

Where was the age of consent reduced? Rome? Cause here in the US it varies from state to state but the age of consent in Ohio has been 16 since *I* was 16.

@Draugnar - age of consent relates to Eng, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which is where the Cardinal practiced if I'm not mistaken
Draugnar (0 DX)

But is that from whence the accusations came? I realized that after posting. So it does come down to age of those he is accused of pursuing versus age of accountability where he did the pursuing. Although, it would still be hard to equate him to the same as an altar boy raping priest.

@Nigee, and everyone else out to make the Church look bad: Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. -Gospel according to Matthew

So no matter what kind of scandals, infiltrations, or atrocious crimes by a few obscure priests occur, the Catholic Church will remain until the Second Coming, whether you like it or not.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

I think nobody can make the church look bad in quite the same way as the church itself but if you need someone to blame just shoot the messenger.
I know what, let's bury our head in the sands, have a policy of hushing up the sexual abuse, the hypocrisy, the lies...... business as usual then.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@Sbyvl - That is a matter of opinion. Christ's church is his believers. The Roman Catholic Bhurch could crumble and perish and Christ's church would still exist. IT would exists int he Lutherans and the Baptists and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and the community churches and on and on. Sorry, but despite the dogma the Roman Catholic Church (and Pope Pedophile the whatever) say, Luke 9:46-50 says it all:

46An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.47But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side,48and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great.”

49John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us.”50But Jesus said to him, “Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you.”

In short, it is not the place of the RCC to declare someone is not a follower of Christ. And that verse you quoted refers to *all* followers of Christ: his chruch. Not the RCC and it's bloated and disgusting view of itself as the only true chruch of Christ Jesus.
Maniac (189 D(B))

It is difficult to know the age of the victims as it is important to keep their annonimity if they require it. The fact that none of the accussers have suggested they were under the age of consent at the time (and we know at least one was a priest and others had been involved in late night drinking with the cardinal) leads me to believe that all were consenting adults.

Also I think it would be difficult to bring a legal case if one victim were say 20 because although illegal then it isn't illegal now.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
@Draug: The Protestants are not Christ's church. They are schismatic, and broke away because they refused to accept the authority Jesus gave to Peter (and thus his successors) in Matthew 16:19

And the Catholic Church is not crumbling anytime soon. We are the oldest institution in the world, and will be 2000 years old soon.

"Pope pedophile", really? I thought you had some kind of intelligence
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
And actually, it is the place of the church:

"Whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven". That covers Indulgences, Excommunications, etc.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Mar 13 UTC
No, Lutherans broke away because they abused the authority by selling passage into heaven via indulgences amongst other things. Read Luther's letters of reformation and come to understand that we Lutherans also have apostolic sucession through Martin Luther himself, an ordained priest who dared to read his Bible and pray for guidance.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Mar 13 UTC
And you really think the RCC is older than the Jews! Bwahahahahahahaha! You are fucked in the head!!!!!!!!!!
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
Luther was a trouble maker.

That wasn't the only way to get indulgences, and that particular way was to help build churches.
"Dared to read the bible". Yep, so did all the tens and thousands of priests, monks, and laity throughout the Catholic world
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Mar 13 UTC
I will provide a quote in full for you that applies to gay priests who attack homosexuality. Judge not lest ye be judged for by what measure ye meet, it shall be met unto you. They *will* be judged for judging other homosexuals.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
The Jews aren't really an "institution" per se, as they are very disorganized and divided.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
Yes they will, but the lowest layer of Hell is reserved for those priests who have dishonored us.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Mar 13 UTC
And I should point out my trouble lies with the leadersip of the Roman Catholic Church, no twith the membership. I find the Catholics I meet regularly to be a very pious and admirable group. And most of the priests at the local level are generally men I can respect: pious and honest men of the cloth. But duplicity and cover ups do not a Godly priesthood make.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Mar 13 UTC
And what about those priests who were made priests by "apostolic succession" from Popes in the dark ages who bought the papcy. You lost apolstolic succession when the seat of the Pope went to the most powerful bidder and then that person abused the seat. At that moment, the Catholic church lost it's claim to apostolic succession.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)
04 Mar 13 UTC
Uhhh....What?

Apostolic succession only applied to bishops.
And can you name examples of people buying and selling the seat?
