when will games unpause?
for all the games I'm playing that got automatically paused there is 1 person holding out on the unpause for each of these games. Neither of the people who have left their votes out have much of a stake left in the game either. Will the games automatically unpause after a certain time or do I need to contact the mods directly?

Treaties
There was a game I played on VDip called 'Treaties' where you had to announce alliances, lay claim to SCs and declare war a year before invasion, all on public chat. Private chat is enabled though so you can plan effectively with your allies. I loved it and I was wondering if anyone here was interested. Bit of RPing makes it that much better too. If anyone is clearer on the rules, it'd be awesome if you could clear it up.

It is the time of a game where you are just on whittling down the draw. And a 1-3 center power requests a draw for about a week. Do you give it?

Unpausing
Hi all, Sorry if this has been asked before.
Does every player have to vote to unpause before a game can proceed or will games unpause themselves eventually?

The 46 Books of the WebDiplomacy Bible Or...
...How I Learned to Quit Quarreling and Love Some Books! ;)
I've always wanted to do this, loving literature and the written word so much:
Everyone picks 2 books/poems/plays/works (No Collected Works/Anthologies, Multi-Part Series can count as 2 books a la 1/2 Samuel.) 1 book chosen = literature/fiction, 1 book = philosophy/science/any non-fiction. So let's see what we compile together, what our Forum's "canon" looks like! :)

Subs needed for Triathlon
Acmac hasn't been around since the 17th so I'm guessing that he won't make it in time to join the next round. I need subs for a gunboat and a full press game. Could be one person for both, or two different people.

Which is why Rutgers went into a FULL STRENGTH Arkansas and came out with a win. Can't wait till Arkansas take some SEC teams down and the discussion is "How did Arkansas turn their season around so quickly." Newsflash, outside of LSU and Alabama the SEC is nothing special.

An(other) idea to handle multis/metas
See below

Here is another (the millionth) idea how to handle multis/metas, with less moderator involment.

My idea is, just as Muting, every player could have a personal "banlist", where he can switch specific users on/off, marking those whom you don't want to play with. It could work as simple as muting, when you create your own list. BUT!

When you try to join a game, you can join only those where you are NOT on the banlist of any of the already joined players. If you join, then none of those players will be able to join, who are on your banlist. So if you create a game, any type, it would be guaranteed you won't play with those you don't want to. Also it would be guaranteed, when you join any other games.

With this solution the "community" would filter out multis/metas/assholes without using moderator/admin resources.

Opinions?
Fortress Door (1837 D)

I love this idea. I was thinking the same thing. There needs to be a system that keeps you from joining games with people you just hate playing with, resigners, and multi's. And the games can still be anon
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
but the mods should still go after the multi's. It just would encourage them to leave before the banhammer.
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Sure, but none of us have to wait for mods to feel ourselves safe from these guys. Also mods would see how many people have banned a specific player, creating a "list of suspicion" automatically. (Only viewable for mods, of course)
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Yes, I really do like this idea :). I could also see it being used against resigners, who will find themselves not being able to join games
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Yep
My only concern is people will use it to avoid players who win games, or players they don't like losing to
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Well, that is their choice, right? If i want a gunboat, but don't want to play with the big boys, I will put them on the list for a bit so i can join a game of people around my skill level
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
it would also fill in a section that points are SUPPOSED to do, but don't. Try to even out the skill level a bit. If someone constantly beats you, because he is about 1000 times better than you, put him on the list until your skills improve
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Yeah, FD would put me on that list for certain :D :D, but I think, as he stated, it a good thing, since one can secure to play with players at his level, until he gets better. I recall when he stated, he wouldn't join if I do, because he'll lose :D. I wouldn't feel sorry either, if someone avoids me for this reason. If he feels he would lose that's not a good thing for both of us. When he is ready to step up 1 level, he will remove the player from his list.

So while your concern sounds legal Stackelberg, it also would help a lot of beginners to avoid unnecessary losses, as FD stated.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
No, i like losing :). Besides, i don't join the high pot games you like, and those are the only games you are good at, so i SHOULD be safe :P

Yeah fair. At the same time, those unnecessary are a good way to learn the game. But I guess I can`t be too worried about people denying themselves opportunities to lose.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
and, if they add TOO many people to the list, they won't be able to join a lot of games, espcially if you add people who play a lot of games on the list.
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Yes, it's their choice I think, and I really don't worry about that being "common".
@FD: yeah, I suck at low bet games, I know, I barely play them at all. But I think it's the same in almost every games, like poker. Beginners sometimes beat experts because they think out of the box, they are fearless, and so on ...
ckroberts (3548 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I think this is a fantastic idea. I have two question. Should it be a public list? And should it be something a game creator could allow/disallow?

For example, if I made a game (to use the two people who posted directly above me) and wanted Fortress Door and StackelbergFollower to join, but Fortress Door had banned StackelbergFollower, would I know it or be able to control it in the game I made?
"My only concern is people will use it to avoid players who win games, or players they don't like losing to " It is a good way to keep players the same level too, the.

I think they have this, like many other great innovations, over at vdip.... correct me if i am wrong.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
We would figure out, and i would take him off my list
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
yeah, they have it at vdip
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
and it would be a private list, i would say. But mods would be able to see it
that would be awkward
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
@Lando: I have no idea about vdip

@ckroberts: In my view the list shouldn't be public, to avoid unneccesary further bans. It's a personal business I think and you don't have to know whom I don't want to play with. Also, you shouldn't know who are those whom are avoided by many.

To answer your example, in my view, if somebody has banned someone, they could NEVER end up in the same game (unless the banning happened after they bopth joined). So you wouldn't be able to play with both of them if one of them has banned the other one.
rokakoma (19138 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
If vdip has all the funky stuff implemented, why is everyone playing here. Something is odd in this. I've never played there (and not planning to do in the foreseeable future), but whenever an idea comes up, how to make the site better, the answer is "yeah, they have it at vdip" :)
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
:P

i play here because the community here has live games, and the quality of play is much better. Also, CD's do tend to be more common on vdip, for some reason
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
oh, vdip also has a system where, if someone NMR's, the phase does NOT advance, and the country is put into civil disorder
ezpickins (113 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
That is not every time FD, unless you change the default setting. The default setting tries to prevent first turn NMR's from ruining a game
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
yeah, i forgot to put that in.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))

If it is truly for multi/meta suspects then there should be a limit to the amount of players a person can have on their list. (3-5) I see potential for this to be severely abused by banning really good players, a player that got an unsuspecting stab on you, people for comments they make on the forums, etc.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I hate the banlist as it would lead to abuse.and metagaming. Don't like a person on the forum? Just banlist them. Forum actions shoud not be allowed to restyrict the ability to play in games and allowing others tyo do that and even creating a tool to helkp them is tantamount to promoting metagaming instead of discouraging it.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
@Gen.Lee

thatonekid's multi web had about 7 people in it.

And it is for other purposes as well, like banning people you just don't want to play with it (playing with krellin and Putin is a living hell...) and, as i said, if you ban too many people, you won't be able to join games

and, if you read my posts, i counter the banning really good players argument
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
and Draugnar, you would have to be very immature to ban somebody over what happened on the forum. Mute is for forum, banlist is for games
