Daily Tibetan Book of the Dead
The first bardo comes at the very moment of death, when there dawns the Clear Light of the Ultimate Reality. This is the very content and substance of the state of liberation, if only the soul can recognize it and act in a way to remain in that state.

Mute feature is broken
I read that bible verse, "an eye for an eye," and considering Mujus muted me, I muted his "daily bible reading" thread. Anyway, I can still see it and it doesn't disappear after the web page code has fully loaded. Help?

Daily K-Pop
This thread isn't meant to provoke argument, but if it does, that's ok. It's just a place to come for a one music video dose of K-Pop. Today's video is BIGBANG's Fantastic Baby from their album Alive, in its original Korean.

Inner city drug crime - with an irish twist
Derry with a population of about a quarter million is a majority republican city - thus it has a history of anti-establishment violence (well anti-british establishment at least) This is interesting: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2012/0430/1224315363745.html

Question about retreat
in game 23 Skido, ALB has been dislogued. The unit hasn't been destroyed, and it has a region near without occupation (GRE). I don't know why the player can retreat the unit from ALB to GRE, in that case. Don't I know something? Can It be a bug?

Does anybody remember that troll...
It was way back when this site allowed you to bounce back up to 100 D available when you were defeated in any game (regardless of how many Diplopoints you had in play at the time). He would get over 100 D, then join games and lose while being the only player in a yet-to-start password-protected game. LOL. What a genius way to climb the rating ladder :)

Daily Bible Reading
http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Jhn&c=7&v=1&t=NLT
Today's reading is John Chapter 7, in which people debate whether Jesus is the promised savior, the Messiah of Israel. Some key verses: On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, "Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'" [fn] (Verses 37-38)

Daily Secular Reading
WELL! I'm a bit late to the party...but screw it, why not--
If we're going to keep having these Bible Reading threads, it's only fair to get some other, non-Biblical (some would say "good") works of literature out there. So go ahead and comment below what you think of the quote given, and the book, the author, all that, who you might want (and in fairness, I'll try not to do Shakespeare for a while.) SO! As he has a (weird) movie coming out...Mr. Poe...

Gunboat and live clubs
So it seems there are several live game/gunboat clubs on the site (reference the 150 cc club or the perpetual string of "never having to say you're sorry" games). I like gunboats and live games. I also hate CD's and NMR's. How does one go about getting into one of these clubs?

Purposely Delaying?
Is purposely delaying the game when already losing allowed?

SDSUPinoy (552 D)
29 Apr 12 UTC
Example:
Gunboat Anon Game.
Austria's last unit is dislodged from a Supply Center province. The only retreats are to non-SC. Austria sets the retreat command but doesn't Ready. Austria forces a wait on the game till the deadline even though Austria has no way to survive. During the build phase Austria must disband but only issues the disband order and doesn't set ready. Game must wait until the deadline again only waiting on Austria's order.
Thoughts?
largeham (149 D)

Well, it is technically allowed, in that it doesn't break any rules, but it is looked down upon.
fiedler (1293 D)

It is practically mandatory here, it would seem.
JECE (1248 D)

Ha ha, well technically I guess the game could draw or cancel before A-H is eliminated in that example. ;-)

CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))

I do think that the web implementation could autoset orders for a power in a builds phase that has no legal choice except for removing its last unit, just as I'd like to see the game autoset disbands for units that have no choice other than disband.
patizcool (100 D)

It's allowed, but unsportsmanlike and shows Austria is clearly a sore loser

I would do it if I were in a game with SDSUPinoy just to piss him off. My last laugh as it were knowing that he is seething would make my heart grow 3 times in size.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
29 Apr 12 UTC
I think it depends on the situation as to whether its unsportsman like or reasonable playing. Id do it if i knew the game was going to draw on my demise on the off-chance that they accidentally draw before im gone and give me a 0 center draw.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
29 Apr 12 UTC
Id also do it if its at the end of the month and i can delay an elimination to the next month to give me time to balance out my GR from the defeat as well instead of throwing another defeat in at the end of the month.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
29 Apr 12 UTC
Whinging about it will get you nowhere - if you don't like waiting a WHOLE phase, then you shouldn't have signed up for a game with that phase lenght.

You made your choice no deal with it.
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))
29 Apr 12 UTC
It seems clearly both legal and unsporting. When I am in a lost position, I generally get my orders in more quickly -- I have fewer of them to write, after all!
brainbomb (290 D)

I see it happen alot lately. thats sort of the 'not a noob resigned anymore' way of being a douche in a game.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

in gunboats I always ready never save retreats and builds as soon as I can get on. (on this site at least, some variants on vdip I will save)
brainbomb (290 D)

Dont get me wrong everyone is entitled to their proper allotment of time. sometimes I don't see the moves I was supposed to make til the last 30 seconds.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
29 Apr 12 UTC
In gunboats why do you ever save?? Ready as soon as you are! Oh wait you wanted to play a specific phase lenght? Someone else expected the game not to
Move on for 24 hours (and didn't have any builds or retreats) so didn't login? Hmm perhaps readying makes you a Douché
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))
29 Apr 12 UTC
I usually save, take a quick look, then ready. This is probably because even after doing this, I misorder about twice a game.
Tasnica (3366 D)
29 Apr 12 UTC
I've seen it used as an (admittedly dirty) payback tactic. You stabbed Austria and his only move option is a forced disband? Well, he can at least get back at you by flipping you off with a gray checkmark.
Annoying, yes. Illegal, no.

@Tru Ninja - "Id also do it if its at the end of the month and i can delay an elimination to the next month to give me time to balance out my GR from the defeat as well instead of throwing another defeat in at the end of the month."

Just curious, you don't consider that taking account of GR to be meta-gaming?

Maniac (184 D(B))
29 Apr 12 UTC
I think delaying moves is obviously a legal tactic, however, I think it will become more and more likely that I will avoid playing with players who employ such tactics.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 12 UTC
@Maniac - Taking GR into account is mitigating but no more so that looking at a players past history and record. Time and again they have both been declared legal on this site. Lets not repeat all the arguments. K? Besides, while still pricking, he isn't making a game altering decision that affects anyone else. It just forestall when he takes the hit. A more egregious action would be using GR to decide who to attack first.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 12 UTC
@ora - You are sure in a bitchy mood. How can reading be a douche move? Its not like the play will move because one or a majority have readied. That was not a valid comparison. One person can hold a game hostage out of spite, but one person can't make it move ahead. Stupid ship comments like that make me question whether youvshould be a mod. :-)
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 12 UTC
Oh and i read you "reasons" excuse for being such a itchy fucktard and, sorry, but if a persons only option is to disbanded their last unit because they are dead (what this threads about), then it is a douche move to not ready the disband. Even to avoid the GR hit. There is no other reason than being a douche.

Question on convoys
In the Diplomacy Adjudicator Test Cases there are a few examples on convoys.
in example 6F5 the convoy is not disrupted but the convoy in 6F9 is dislodged. Why is the convoy dislodged in example 6F9 and not in 6F5?? Would it make any difference if the Army was in Wales and was moving to Holland via the Channel and North sea?
