Hello everyone! I just created a world game in hopes that we can get a fun, clean game together. The meek and anti-social need not apply.

Off-topic: Browser Game
I've been playing a little browser game that lets you built up a squad of soldiers and customize them in order for them to fight automatically against other opponents.
It's quite nifty overall if you get into it and only take a couple of minutes each day.

Credibility issues after stabbing
Hey everyone,
I had a little issue I was curious about on stabbing: is that really the path to winning this game? I always find it a waste of good faith-building in an alliance to resort to simple terrain nicking at some point when you have so many more options (see follow up):

Argh! The first two games I play on here, two powers failed to submit Spring 1901 orders, which really fucks things up. :( I wish there was some sort of penalty for this or that webdiplomacy would send emails when a game starts and when you have orders due...

Really sorry about the delay with game three. It will happen as soon as we figure out the technical issue with replacing this one player. I think we're going to forgo the 4th game (round 2 only has 3 anyway), that way the first leg will be done by end-June, leaving July for the second leg and August for the finals.

Every human life on Earth, tomorrow, suddenly vanishes. Mankind is gone for good. But you learn that by the year 200001, either the Apes will rise, or space aliens will come along...SOMEONE will populate Earth once more, and wonder who used to live here. You build a Mt. Mankind: 10 Heads of anyone who's ever lived, and one relic/piece of work of theirs to tell the future who humans were. Who, and what, do you choose?

Good thing you didn't make just one sentence of that, Putin, or related the two propositions in explicit ways. Otherwise, I would have to argue with you.
(and please don't tell me that buying pot = money in terrorists pockets, because that's just not "supporting", as the verb involves a propositional attitude, an intention to support, which is clearly lacking in most pot users. So please, no bullshit.)

Agree with DILK.

Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

@Putin
If it was State run then we wouldn't have that issue, we'd just be supporting the terrorists on our side.
But now we're arguing legalization, which is EXACTLY what I'm trying to avoid

Maybe we can keep this on a smaller scale than it's political effects.
gramilaj (100 D)

You don't use electricity to power your computer while you're on here? That produces money on the back of labor, you know. It's the same trickle down economics argument you're using, just a little more removed.

Most people use money to support causes they don't believe in. Don't cherrypick.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
Cherry pick? It's hard to objectively support terrorism and cartels as much as buying drugs does.

DILK (1539 D)

I feel you Hugo. Normally I think this forum is a ridiculous troll fest and choose not to comment, but now I did, and now I somehow support terrorism.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
It has no social worth, that's the point. You want a discussion where all the potheads sit around and say how great pot is?
krellin (80 DX)
29 Aug 11 UTC
Pot is a *far* superior drug to alcohol. First, it doesn't tend to make be violent, as alcohol does for some. Second, it is nearly impossible to overdoes on it. Third, you can grow it in your back yard, in a field, in your basement, etc....so you don't HAVE to support some multi-national corporation or drug cartel (and THAT is the biggest lie Putin is pushing, that pot must necessarily support terrorism. If it were legal, I would grow it in my backyard for personal use. duhhh!!!!) Third, it is a much better high than alcohol - mellow and pleasant for most, as opposed to varying and increasing degrees of dysfunctional with alcohol.

I recently watched a video "What if Cannabis Cured Cancer" (Google it...) and it makes strong arguments that cannabis has cancer-curing effects. Very interesting...

Anyone who disses the drug has never tried it, and is just another government zombie, sipping their government approved beer...

I do NOT smoke it now because it is illegal. If it were legal....you'd see the most mellow, pleasant krellin ever! lol

Ignore Putin. He's a hypocritical fool. His existence on this internet, using his corporately produced computer, using his corporate electricty....even though he does not HAVE to...goes against what he stands for. But...he would rather be self-indulgent than live by his word.

Putin...does BOOZE have social worth? Do the legal prescription drugs that people abuse have social worth? WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU to determine what has, or does not have, social worth, you fucking arrogant prick? <Sigh.....> Putin, the heavy-handed voice of oppressive government says pot has no social worth. I think PUTIN HAS NO SOCIAL WORTH!

We don't need to put people in jail for pot and have police waste their time on stoned teenagers when there are more serious crimes going on. Let the tobacco companies sell joints and put alcohol-like restrictions on it so you can't drive high or show up to work high and things would be a lot better. It would also mean the drug cartels would get loads less money since there's not longer the increased price due to the risk of selling an illegal product.

Philip Morris can do what Felipe Calderon hasn't been able to, and bring in tax money at the same time.

Most pot in Austalia is grown locally. You could say it supports organized crime I suppose, but not terrorism. Not here anyway.
Pot is fine in moderation. I think alcohol is much worse. Yes it seems to cause mental problems in a minority of users. But just about everything cases problems in a minority of users.
With regards to organzied crime or terrorism the solution would be to legalize it.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

Invictus makes a really good point, we don't need to be wasting our resources hunting down some 17 y/o kid who wants to get high, eat Taco Bell and watch Monty Python.

I personally like the approach that some of my friends in law enforcement take which is: "Go ahead and smoke your joint in your backyard, I have a serial rapist that I'm a bit more concerned with."
Cachimbo (1181 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
Again:
"Supporting" is a verb that entails the intention to support, a propositional attitude.
Your argument, Putin, is not the one you're trying to make. Figure it out and we'll talk.

In the meantime, watch this great little piece by the Streets I just posted.
spyman (424 D(G))

Does pot have social worth? Yes if you enjoy it and so long as it does not adversely affect your life. Some people find it helps them relax. Others find it helps them to be creative. Personally it just makes me sleepy. I haven't smoked in a long time though. I don't know anyone who sells it these days.
Putin33 (111 D)

"Invictus makes a really good point, we don't need to be wasting our resources hunting down some 17 y/o kid who wants to get high, eat Taco Bell and watch Monty Python."

Good thing we don't. Look at any data on any state prison anywhere. We're not filling them with non-violent 17 year old potheads. That's a myth the potheads use to get people to support legalization. The people who are in prison for drugs are in prison for distributing large quantities of drugs and many of them are there due to past offenses or other violent offenses to boot.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
Even if we're not putting them into jail, we're still wasting time and diverting recources trying to catch them and grind them through the legal system
Invictus (240 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
With prisons overcrowded with non-violent drug offenders, obscene amounts of money flowing into drug cartels' and other organized crime's pockets, nearly as obscene amounts of money wasted by law enforcement on trying to combat the problem, and the all around social decay of our cities that comes from the easy money selling drugs gives to young people, we can't afford NOT to legalize at least marijuana. I have crazy ideas about legalizing everything, but one war at a time.

Drug abuse would still be a problem, of course. But without the stigma of illegality it would be thought of in a similar way as alcoholism. You know, as a social problem rather than a criminal one. If we could spend a tenth of the money funneled to the War on Drugs into rehab we'd do much more good than all the arrests and jail terms in improving people's lives.

Idea for a new betting system: % instead of # of points
I'd like to suggest a new option in which the required bet for a game is an equal percentage of a player's total points (including those in play) instead of a set number of points. In practice, the relative investment for all players would be more equal and could encourage underdogs to take on the richest players on the site.
