Suggestions
So, I probably haven't been here long enough to be talking, but I was reading a thread someone linked about wanting the ability to do multilateral messaging, and I had an idea I thought might be nice, so I figured I would say it here as well as a couple other things I think might be cool.

World Diplomacy IX: Map discrepancy
I note that on the map for World Diplomacy IX, the Bering Strait is labelled BrS on the right, and BSt on the left, the main variant map: http://www.variantbank.org/results/rules/w/world8-2.gif

Lists it as: BrS, it should reflect this.

gunboat strategy.
italies why are you always so dumb. what appeals to you so much about opening against austria. why cant one italy even one ever in a gunboat try to actually ally with austria. in the last like 10 games ive played her italy has opened against austria. you almost always end up sucking as a result while allying with austria often fares so much better.

Pause Etiquette Question/Opinions
I'd like to hear from the community regarding a pause etiquette issue. If a game is paused because someone is unable to log on for a certain time period, is it wrong to communicate with the other powers? I have always felt that it is unfair to discuss tactics while someone else is not there. It seems underhanded. On the other hand, I worry that I am putting myself at a disadvantage if other powers talk during a pause and I do not. I'd like to hear others thoughts about this.

France needed - 6SC/Gunboat
Player needed for gunboat game to fill 6SC France in Spring 1904. Good position, no turns missed (CD is result of a player being banned, not from missing turns).

Sorry I am new to this forum, I used to play on "play diplomacy" but they lack live games. IF there is a better place to post game requests I apologize in advance.

Do NOT Post Cheating Accusations in the Forum
I'm really sick of that crap. It's not that hard to email the mods, and you'll get a much more expedient response by doing so.

And while I'm at it, use the "Advertise Your Live Games Here" thread for just that. Don't start new threads. Some people still don't get that simple idea.

It's in a language called Solresol. I can't be bothered to attempt a translation, but I predict google translation and babelfish will not be able to help.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)

(Do I win a prize for at least working out the language?)
It's some sort of shift cipher right?

Bogus made up language... I'd be more likely to use Quenyan that Solresol.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
31 Jan 11 UTC
@ LJ TYLER: No, it's not a shift cipher at all, nor any form of code - it's an actual language, albeit a rather impractical, made up one, which never gained mainstream acceptance and has long since fallen out of use - a bit like Esperanto.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solresol
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
31 Jan 11 UTC
(Only even more obscure than Esperanto, obviously)
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
31 Jan 11 UTC
Hmmm. I might be wrong here actually. What little I can find on Solresol doesn't exactly match what Baumhaeuer has written, although there are more similarities than with anything else I can find.

Ok, Baumhaeuer, we've had enough. Explain yourself.

It's not soldesol for sure, which uses the do-re-mi tones as syllables.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

Are we looking for a language or a cyphering method?
I asked if it was a shift because in an earlier post he said "Do=No" so I'm guessing it's just English some sort of cipher. It also definitely isn't solresol based on what I read about that.
ulytau (541 D)
31 Jan 11 UTC
Standard frequency analysis gives dubious results for English (of course the text is pretty short and that doesn't help). Also the words "u","ye","yt","yr" do not point out to any existing English words. The word Aberyhy is evidently inflexive and starts with upper case letter so it should be a noun but then the number of letters is the same in both its forms which also doesn't ring a bell for me. Or maybe I'm just being stupid (to my defense, I'm not a native speaker and definitely not a cryptoanalyst).
Draugnar (0 DX)

Do=No in soldesol
Draugnar (0 DX)

Solresol also abreviates syllables into letters so the only thing I can see that truly precludes Solresol is the special characters not found in the English alphabet, which Solresol still uses.

now I feel bad for making you all guess so long...

Should I tell you? buahahaha (no, it IS a genuine language and yes, "Aberyhy" and "Aberyho" are two declensions of the same word)
Draugnar (0 DX)

It's Czech!

Jamiet99uk (808 D)

@ Draugnar: It's not Czech. I have put the OP into both Google translate and Yahoo Babelfish as a Czech-English translation, and neither application is able to translate any of the words.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
01 Feb 11 UTC
Hmm. "Aberyhy" and "Aberyho" translates as "Aberration" in Polish. But a lot of the other words do not seem to be Polish. Perhaps some of the words are obscure or made up.

Is this a ham-fisted attempt to translate something out of H.P. Lovecraft into Polish or Czech, Baumhaeur?
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
01 Feb 11 UTC
(Also, Draug, it's not Czech because "No" in Czech is "Ne", not "Do".
ulytau (541 D)
01 Feb 11 UTC
No way is this ANY Slavic language. Even faux transliteration from cyrilic to latin based on similar shapes of letters rather than their actual meaning would never result in such an aberattion.

The Russian Revolution, 1917
I've got a class on the subject above, and I've got a 10-12 page paper to write in the same topic. I was wondering if the webdip community has any ideas on what I could write about. Just keep in mind that it needs to be at least ten pages and the scope is revolutionary activity in 1917 only, the Civil war in 1918 and later is off-limits. That being said, any suggestions welcome.
