Your site says I've played 39 games This site says I've played 44 games ( the last one I finished was 5 AM GMT today) Any idea what the dif is?

Also if I'm reading your list correctly, it says I'm #260 and I've gone down 70 notches. Last GR rating (dec 1) I was #226. ANy idea what that's about?

I'm guessing the numbers were pulled before Christmas because I have 42 games completed, not 39. One of them was a hard fought draw with several of the top players involved. I can't conceive that I woul dhave dropped 90+ positions with a draw against some of the best to my credit.

Also, there is a game I wasn't in that is being counted against me on my record. Can I get an adjustment once it is checked out?

Also, the BCS should hire you because your explanation of your system (math stuff) was far clearer than any explanation of their methods (conjecture, exclusion and I would venture to say drawing of straws) I've ever heard.

TGM I notice you have you have two methods, one for WTA and one for PPSC. I'd be curious to see how different the rankings would be if you only used the WTA method.
In fact I am not even sure why you use the PPSC method of all. Why? PPSC is just a method for allocating points on this site, and points are used as a way of helping players find games at their level (albeit a crude method) - we shouldn't view points as the measure of skill on this site - your Ghostrating is THE measure (the best we have anyway). But it is still the same game - Diplomacy. I always like it when, in a PPSC game, the other players treat it just like a WTA game. Players are more and more playing to increase their Ghostrating, not their points. If you use the one method (WTA) as your measure, this might encourage people to play PPSC games like they were WTA games.

In a nutshell, what I am saying is that just because the points system rewards players for throwing the game (for example, settling for 2nd place but with 16 SCs), doesn't mean Ghostratings has to reward this. Thus just use the same method for both types of games.

spyman, I believe the reason is because the Ghostratings are meant to reflect how well a player has played within the rules of the particular game. PPSC games have different goals, right or wrong, and the Ghostratings recognize that. Honest rather than ideological.

I understand this Alderian. But I am saying we should stop considering the points as THE goal, but rather Ghostratings. Points still have their place in finding people to play with, but I think that if you want to sacrifice a draw for points (by settling for 16 SCs for example), then understand that is your choice, but understand you will be sacrificing your Ghostrating.

Points have nothing to do with the rules of diplomacy. PPSC or WTA it is still the same game. The different cultures of the two scoring systems is unintended consequence. In the rules of diplomacy all you have is Win, Draw or Lose. That's all Ghostratings need to measure.

I'm trying to rate how well people follow the objectives laid out for them by the points system. Whilst I agree that PPSC is not diplomacy, many players do take strong seconds on the principle that they can do better like that than by playing WTA style in PPSC.

Crazyter, if you finished a game between midnight of 30thNov/1stDec, then that will mean that your change figures are a bit wierd. I'm putting down change since that midnight, not since the last posted list on the grounds it was easier to do.

Yes but I don't think the points system does lay out any objectives (or it shouldn't be seen to). It's just a method for matching players of a similar level. It's within your power to influence what the (perceived) objectives should be.

Sadly, it does change people's objectives. :(
