Whose up for a live anonymous gunboat game?
I don't normally play gunboat, but I can't play WoW while watching the Sugar Bowl. Anyone want to play one? I'll set it up and password it then PM the password to those who are interested.

I never played in this game. How is it suddenly on my record?
gameID=16160

It's a live game that I am somehow credited as being Germany, but I was never in it. What the hell?! I have enough losses that I don't need the system adding even more.

Best decade ever?
It has to be, and by a larger margin than usual too. Life expectancy, economic development, technological and scientific advance, it's all looking up. If you look past unfortunate events and special cases to the big picture it's hard to be anything but optimistic
Anyone want to rain on my parade? Anyone else feeling optimistic? Happy new year either way

I'll rain on it just because where I'm at, it's gonna take slightly over 24 hours to be a new year, unlike you Australian people, who beat us Americans by over half a day:p
Valkyrie (0 DX)

i'm not quite sure this is the best decade ever, probably one of the best, but not the best ever. too much economic problems in the US and the rest of the world... don't know which decade i'd pick for the best ever though.

hope the incoming decade is better than this one. :)
vamosrammstein (757 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
Wouldn't the first decade ever be the best one? I mean if we didn't have that first decade, we wouldn't be able to have all the other amazing decades that we've had right? Now I'm unsure when the first decade exactly happened, but it certainly gets my vote, wherever it may be.

lol
this decade was the best ever...for my Patriots! woot!

Happy new year everyone, even though it's still early a bit
Merirosvo (302 D)

the 90s obviously.
Timur (673 D(B))

Think it depends where you are geographically and what your perspective is. Here in China, it's been the best decade for over a century economically and societally. [Apart from 'the Great Firewall of China' which is a pain in the ass.]
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
Imo, this question assumes some kind of ethnocentricity. It seems to implicitly refer to the developed nations. Try asking a mother in any one of the numerous war-torn areas of the world if this decade, in which she lost her entire family, was 'the best ever'. And she's no 'special case'; there are millions upon millions in her position or similar. Until the whole world is achieving the advances you mention, there will never be a 'best decade'. [Sorry if it's raining outdoors. Never mind, the parade's been cancelled.]
denis (864 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
It's the decade with the best record if anything. Take it to the police station of time and it would be the one with th least offenses! Good and bad times but one more year and we will see if it finishes strong or lousy!
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
PS Happy New Decade to all!
(Wait a minute. I think 2010 might be the last year of a decade, the new one beginning in 2011. Anyone put me right on this?)
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
@denis Think that answers my last question.
Darth (137 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Timur, Decades go from _0-_9. So 1980-1989 was a decade and 1990 started a new one. At least that's how I learned it.
Darth (137 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Oh and I would to say that this is definitely the Best decade of this Millennium! So far at least.
The greatest decade has yet to come, and it will be topped by an even greater decade further into the future. This one was pretty cool, though, albeit including several overly-drawn-out technically-illegal wars waged under false pretenses (which were arguably-intentional), a world-wide market-crash, etc, etc....
DominicHJ (100 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
I remember many economical, political and social crises for this decade, to sum it up: 9/11, Aghanistan, Irak,Darfur Sri Lanka, global food crisis, global economic crisis...

It kinda sucked, actually.

That being said, where I come from culturally prospered during this decade, so it ain't all bad.
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
@Darth: lol - It's always good to get in at the beginning!
Timur (673 D(B))

The Best Decade Ever is quite a claim. What about the 20's and the 60's?
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
Those decades produced the best music of the century, imo.
Timur (673 D(B))
31 Dec 09 UTC
And real social change.
DominicHJ (100 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Agreed. 60s brought real change.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Timur is correct, actually, but the convention seems to be to like to say that when the tens digit changes, the decade is over (the problem with their being a 0th year doesn't occur to poeple)

This decade had lower average economic growth than any other since WW2.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Let's poke the hornet's nest: the 80s were the best.
denis (864 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
Well the music sucked eh?
How many of these songs it band will be remembered?
DominicHJ (100 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
80s were good musically, perhaps, but that was about it, a rather shitty decade. Feel free to support your claim, though, otherwise I'll go saying the '40s were the best. ;)
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
economically speaking, 80s were the best. (prodding deeper)
denis (864 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
80's were awesome for music! Bon jovi, queen, pink Floyd, among numerous bands.
But you are right we look back at the style fashion an general design of that decade is a slump.
denis (864 D)

Anyone with me on the 50's right after the economic boom of ww2 tv's in household and America was become more and more electric...
DominicHJ (100 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
80s sucked economically where I come from, we had quite a serious depression.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
31 Dec 09 UTC
"where I come from" isn't very helpful.
dan fiorini (100 D)

nah i have the same feelings as the writers of time magazine that this decade was the decade from hell. but the flip side is that it can only get better.
