University Students
So I know there's a whole range of ages on this site, but since I'm myself doing this out of a dorm room, it occurred to me that a lot of the folks here might be college students, checking this site habitually between classes after (or before) facebook.

Is anybody else here a college student? And if so, where?

Favorite Beer by Nationality
I'm always looking for new beers to try. I figured with the international group we have here, I'll learn some good ones that maybe I've seen, but haven't tried out of ignorance my choices follow ...

I've only tried Foster's from Australia, and it's ok, but there must be something better right? something a bit more micro-brewish, but that is still exported (from their point of view) to America?

Canada: Molson's Export Ale.

Keiths is probably better than molson ex.
IBethune (519 D)
09 Jan 09 UTC
American: not worth trying, it's all weak and watery (shameless flamebait!)
Mexican: Negro Modela
Scottish: Deuchars IPA
English: Ringwood Best Bitter
Belgian: Mort Subite (literally 'Sudden Death')
German: Becks
French: Kronenbourg 1664
Australian: Castlemaine XXXX (known as 'four-ex')

But of course the king of all drinks is the Scottish Single Malt Whisky...
Bazin (527 D)

I've found that Keith's is much less enjoyable these days than it was.

It's been a while since I've had Molson Ex, but it was one of my favorites.
philcore (317 D(S))

IBethune - if you like Becks, you should like most mass-produced American beers - it's pretty watery as well.

We have an enourmous amount of "micro"breweries here now that actually have flavor to them and they have become very popular here - I'm just not sure how many are exported. Sam Adams Boston Ale is just the perfect blend of flavors in a beer though IMO, and if you can find it where you're from, I would highly reccomend trying it.
Chrispminis (916 D)

Molson Ex is pretty good. I think I would take Keith's IPA over it though...

American: Local microbreweries only. I can't tolerate American mass-produced piss water.

philcore, fosters is NOT australian. i dont know of anyone who actually drinks it in australia. somehow marketing gurus have managed to convince beer lovers the UK and others that fosters is a "true blue aussie" drink. ridiculous , fosters is camels piss.
i would recommend (if you can get a hold of them) Coopers - they have a range from Pale ale , Stout etc or Castle lager.

Philcore is right on with the beer choices...but you forgot Sake and Kingfishers.

I go for Leffe triple or Duvel, both Belgium. I assume you're talking about 'special beers' and not pilsners...

Any microbrewery beats commercial beer. But let discuss something verybody can follow.
By Beer type:
Dark/Ale: Leffe
Stout: Guinness
Weissbeer: Franziskaner
Pilsner: Urquell/Carlsberg Elephant

That is what beer is about. Just the pure ingridients and thats it!

American mass produced beer is garbage, but microbrews like Magic Hat, or Leinenkugel, are actually pretty good. And have to also agree w/ whoever mentioned Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Mexico - I think Corona is pretty much on par w/ American mass produced piss, but Dos Equis Amber, and Negra Modelo are awesome
Others...
Belgium - Hoegaarden, Duvel, Leffe
Germany - Becks, Franziskaner
Netherlands - Grolsch
Ireland - Guinness, Harp, Murphy's
India - Kingfisher
Japan - Asahi
Singapore - Tiger

man i feel like an alcoholic

sean: the commercials here actually have the tag line "Fosters, Australian for beer"

Personally I think it tastes much like the mass produced shit that everyone seems to agree on here. I'll look for Coopers -thanks for the recomendation. Any other Austalian beers that anyone would reccomend?

Asian beers all taste very similar to me - light and crisp, but at least with some flavor, but I'll add my favorites anyway:
Japan: Kirin Ichiban
China Tsing Tao
Thailand: Singh Ha

trim - what would be a good English Cider to try?

I've had a few American ones - but something tells me their not true to the roots of traditional cider - they taste like lemonade or apple juice with vodka in it.

Our main semi-local brew here in WA is Little Creatures, which isn't bad, but really here in Australia there's slim pickings :-(

Fosters is Australian but it hasn't been popular here since about 1980. I know a few people who drink it. My favourite Aussie beer is Cascade. My favourite international beer is probably Corona with a slice of lime (Mexico).

Moderator needed...
We have a game stuck on pause (game 7771) in which all contestants have voted for a draw except for one who hasn't logged in since Tue, Jan 06.
At what point can a moderator declare this game a draw?

Question on multiaccounting
Before you all start flaming against me, I am merely curious I have niether the time nor the inclination to attempt what I am inquiring about.
If some one makes multiple accounts, but never uses them in the same game, thereby not cheating, is it still wrong and ban-able?
A possible ligit use for this would be to play more games than you can on one accounts limited points.

I don't remember exactly, but I am pretty confident I finalized my moves late Friday night (GMT), or at least, made them and updated, but not finalized waiting for some late information exchange. And in two of my games (at least) these moves didn't went through.

A fleet in Gascony or Brest couldn't attack Paris could it?
Paris is inland, so that tells me no, but I'm not leaving it up to chance. Why is the option to build a fleet in Paris there if it's inland anyways?
