Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

Mansplaining: (Of a man) explain (something) to someone, typically a woman, in a manner regarded as condescending or patronizing.

Manscaping: The removal or trimming of hair on a man's body for cosmetic effect.

Thank you for mansplaining this stuff for me guys

Mansplaining typically involve unasked for or unneeded explanations. Like when a man at a party find out the woman he is talking to works in some biology field (can't remember the details of this story), and then tells her all about this new theory which he read about in a book... She says things like 'yeah, i know, i wrote a book about it' but he insists that she has to read this newly publishes theory and explains at length.

When you're talking to the author of the book you're trying to explain, and you don't realise they know more about the subject than you. That is mansplaining.

And it typically happens when a man assumes he is superior and talks over women as a matter of normal conversation. Research seems to indicate that talking over, at least, is very common, and men tend to assume they are experts, or project some confidence which women tend to hide even when they are experts.

Mansplaining is a rhetorical device that uses feminists' sexist opinions about men to stifle criticism so that the user of the device doesn't have to resolve the criticism of the argument or position being presented. I would advise you to ignore anyone who accuses you of it, because there is always a way to present that exact criticism to you without trying to weaponize your sex against you, which means that person does not have both of your interests at heart.

orathaic (1009 D(B))
16 Nov 17 UTC
@Smokey, i think labeling thinks is very useful, so even if men have been mansplaining for hundreds of years (ie assuming they knew better and talked over women/ignored their expertise), now that feminists have invented a word for it, they can use that word to very explain the problematic behaviour - and hopefully correct it.

Mansplaining is when a man talks to an impressionable woman. If you’re a such a woman, you can hear other woman speak in the same tones and use the same jargon in speaking down to you and that’s that. When it’s a man, and you’re silly, it is mansplaining.

When a woman speaks down to a man in the same way, which happens just as often, it’s just what it is.

Feminist bend the rules to fit their narrative and their best trick is to hide completely mundane actions that everyone of every gender and sex makes behind sexual exclusions at the expense of men.

In fact, feminism is talking down and treating down to men. It really is nothing but codified sexism against masculinity and for people that want to believe nothing but narrative.

Yes, you’re sexist if you disagree with feminist dogma. Great logic.

If you’re a woman and you disagree with feminism it’s internalised patriarchy or misogyny. No one is allowed their own opinions. By all means, call everyone that disagrees or calls bullshit a sexist. That is your blind spot.
JECE (1253 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
shigzeo: Don't kid yourself. You're not disagreeing with feminism, but rather only a straw man (pardon the pun).

Please explain my straw man that would also not explain mansplaining in the same terms? I should add that this entire thread is speaking down. I’d anyone here identifies as a woman, technically they could cry mansplaining.

It is a joke term.

What provisions are there in general for dealing with players who NMR on the first turn? Should we simply agree on a draw and try and rebuild the game with new players? Is there a way to bring in replacements?

New York is the best.
Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY
