Do the Ghost Ratings include games where the player takes over a CD? If a player regularly takes over CDs in a more or less hopeless position does it effectively screw up the player's ghost rating?

Interesting concept game here - players are paired on the Modern Diplomacy II map. Unfortunately, we're about to lose one player (game currently paused) and might lose another, although we hope he's able to return. So looking for one more - more details follow...

Interesting concept indeed.

Play with a couple people who are more worried about the outcome of a game and keeping the game moving over the real life situation of a player impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Good times!!!!!

God forbid the current game gets drawn to help a player impacted by the hurricane.

Cause the concept clearly couldn't be used in a new game or anything.

Yes other stuff I'm taking exception to. I'm taking exception to the OP pathetically pushing the game forward despite one of the players impacted by Harvey and refusal to do the adult thing and take advantage of the NMR that the player took because of it.

By the way my 'secret' partner in the game is France.

A 'secret' the OP had no problem sharing in the global chat of the game.
KansasBoyd (25 DX)
04 Sep 17 UTC
BR, my wishes to leave the game have nothing to do with the concept of the game.

It has to do with with pathetic desire of a couple of the players in the game to keep the game moving despite one of the players dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The concept is easily retained by either drawing or cancelling the game and starting a new game.

That is why I'm labeled 'a bad egg' for having the audacity to speak out against this pathetic and childish desire to keep the game moving because the player impacted had the class to offer up his removal from the game in favor of a sub after he got screwed by a NMR while a pathetic couple of players in the game can't elevate themselves to decent humanity and just draw or cancel the game in light of tragic real life events.

KB, you've maligned yourself. And you are making it worse with your posts here, which are less than truthful. You're coming off petty and spiteful - just bough out and stop trying to be destructive.

The truth:
1) We are more than two months into this game
2) Yes, one player (Hauta) had an NMR and others took advantage of it not knowing why it happened. _Afterwards_, we all learned that he was dealing with hurricane Harvey problems, and all of us paused the game.
3) Hauta suggested we find a substitute for him or give him a long pause. We gave a pause so we could sort it out and give him a chance to return.
4) Hauta offered a draw vote. He posted his draw vote without indicating if he wanted us to draw or for some other reason. I think he was just offering up a draw option in case we got stuck on pause, a draw giving us a way out. KB took it as a request for all of us to draw. Only Hauta knows, and understandably, he has not been around to tell us.
5) As a group, we started discussing how to move forward or resolve the game. KB took great offense to this because we were not all voting draw even though we still do not know Hauta's motivation for putting up a draw vote. KB claimed we were not being respectful of Hauta. Personally, I don't see it - a pause and talking seems quite reasonable to me. But then KB started getting belligerent and spiteful with us and demanded out of the game because we were somehow being awful to Hauta (despite not actually doing anything more than discussing what to do). So here we are.
5) The substitute is not about KB's position in the game, it is about irreconcilable differences per above.
6) We're still deciding whether to find a substitute for Hauta or give him a long pause in order to return - per his actual request as opposed to something KB imagines Hauta wants.

slypups's original statement of the problem with KB implies that his level of success or tactical situation or some such in the game is part of his gripe. I see no evidence that this is true at all, and suspect that slypup's very understandable frustration at the guy was just bubbling over into the wording. Wanting to cancel or draw for that reason isn't one of the vices that Boyd is demonstrating here, at least in my estimation.

slypups description of what happened is accurate. Hauta is dealing with hurricane stuff and missed a turn. After that, he asked for a pause and everyone voted for it probably more quickly than for any pause I've ever seen proposed, particularly in Modern, where it takes so many people to coordinate.

The problem is what to do next. Hauta was wonderful about it and encouraged us to find a sub or whatever. I favor waiting until he eventually returns. Others favor drawing or cancelling. Yet others favor following through Hauta's own suggestion of finding a sub.

This is all civil, and done with kindness and respect, except for Boyd's part in it. I suspect that most or all others feel as I do, and think this is one of the most interesting games of Diplomacy to come around in a long time. The dynamics have been subtle and complex and the "pair" mechanism causes odd balancing to happen that doesn't normally. I hope that I'll find others who want to discuss the game rather at length if it ends here, and my preference is that we get to see the experiment play out.

I don't particularly think that any of the outcomes are unreasonable. It would have been very unreasonable to not pause, but that was done instantly. After that, I have my preference (to wait) but can live with most anything else too. With the exception of Boyd, I think my statement in this paragraph describes most everyone in the game (except for perhaps the parenthesized preference.) Boyd stands alone in believing people have motives that seem incredibly implausible to me, and that he regards as ignoble. He's communicated this in the rudest terms possible, with petty insult and name-calling.

As much credit as we can hand to slypups (?) for dreaming up this idea, a lot of the credit goes to the unusually high caliber of play from a bunch amazing players. If we don't continue from here, I hope that we put another together and get most or all of the same players. KB, you were also a joy (a frustrating, nail-biting, joy) during actual play. My hope even extends to seeing you in a replacement game, though I do sorta hope that you're like you were when we were playing and not like you're being now. The beast that you're railing at is indeed ugly, but it isn't here.

Slypups continues to discredit Hauta's very public Draw vote that the entire world can see plain as day because it doesn't fit his agenda.

This motive to continue a game, which apparently seem implausible to some despite multiple long press stating exactly that, are available for everyone to see.

There is no other purpose to a draw vote other than to draw, but slypups seems to think there has to be some other motive behind a draw vote that is not to draw.

Slypups continues to lie here saying I have maligned myself?

I guess I am the one going around calling myself a bad egg? But I guess that isn't petty name calling and insulting and somehow civil and done with kindness and respect.

One player taking it to another entirely creepy level and sending threatening messages on another unrelated sites must be another display of civility, kindness and respect.

Quite the double standard on display.

I can post here that I hope everyone in the world have a wonderful day, but that most likely is just someone being polite and not representative of my true beliefs.

Yet according to some that should be taken as gospel.

Those that care to remember the events totally accurately, which hasn't happened yet, will recall that my frustration started when slypups mere hours (if even that long) after the pause was granted already started moving forward with talks of finding a sub. He couldn't even wait a few days in the pause. But somehow my ideas of him wanting to push the game forward no matter what are outlandish to some?

I've seen no indications that he has any other intention.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

and you think discerning what hauta said is hard. try discerning the bible.
KansasBoyd (25 DX)
04 Sep 17 UTC
I guess slypups considers starting the process to find a sub for Hauta almost immediately after the pause "a chance to return"?

Everything I've stated is 100% truthful and accurate.

But being called a liar is only me maligning myself according to slypups.
ND (879 D)

Boyd, there is no need to be hateful about this.
slypups (1889 D)

Here is the post I made that set KB off. You judge for yourself if I deserve what I'm getting from KB:

"I'd prefer to wait for his return, even if it is a week or two - I can be patient. Second choice would be a sub. Third choice is a draw. Kind of a shame to draw this deep into a game where it's hardly a case of stalemate lines preventing further progress anywhere.

On the other hand, that NMR by Hauta really knocked the direction of the game on it's head and was a major reversal for Germany and Ukraine in particular in central Europe, and Turkey comes out much better too for it. Maybe that hurt the game too much, but I think there are enough balancing interests going on to still salvage the action for everyone.

In the end, if everyone prefers a draw, I'll put in my vote too. Under these circumstances, I don't think we have any "winners" based on the original rules because this would not be a stalemate-type draw, for which we had envisioned a secondary scoring system based on the bounty countries to determine a winner. For example, whoever has a French bounty would win right now in a draw - that could even be Ukraine, in the weakest position at the moment! If we do draw, I would love to try another of these, and I think the Mod Dip II map has been good for it. I agree with Yoak, that the interaction is quite complex here, having one unbreakable alliance from the start, yet all the same kind of making and breaking of deals going on with everyone else - interesting dynamic, along with that bounty incentive."
