Why is Terrorism the only time people feel a visceral response?
I noticed recently there was an incident where a man crashed his car into multiple people injuring many and killing someone. But because it was not terrorism, people did not seem motivated in the same manner against alcoholism as they would have if he were a terrorist. If he had indeed been from any Muslim country at all, and also under the influence of alcohol, one has to wonder if people would just automatically assume it was a terror plot.

American reporter arrested for asking questions to Trump HHS Secretary
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/business/media/reporter-arrested-tom-price.html

Freedom of the press is an integral part of the 1st amendment. Just wondering how rightwing media handled or ignored this story about Dan Heyman, the reporter that was arrested for asking persistent questions to Tom Price, HHS Secretary.

On how PPSC scoring does not encourage players to throw games
In our recent discussion (threadID=1432961), many mods and fellow pillars of the community claimed that when you have two Great Powers in a game that have between 12 and 16 supply centers, one of these Great Powers has a (D) points-incentive to throw the game. I disagreed and this puzzled my fellow users, but only Lethologica took the bait when I explained my position. Here it is again:

Would anyone be interested in joining a game with some friends of mine and I?
I have 3 friends that I would like to introduce to the game, but can't seem to talk anyone else into playing with us for a full Ancient Med game. Just a casual, low-bet game, probably 2 day turns.

German Man Imprisoned for 10 years for Holocaust Denial

An 81 year old German man who was alive at the time of WWII was recently arrested in Hungary after fleeing from Germany, where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison merely for saying that the Holocaust didn't happen. This is a clear breach of the United Nation Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which protects the "freedom of speech and belief". People criticize China for infringing upon it, yet Germany is given a free pass. This man was arrested for a crime of thought (aka thought crime) rather than any crime of action.

The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, not unlike the majority of the UN's so-called universal declarations, are so fluffy that you could pin them on your pillow and sleep like a baby, leon. Nobody fucking cares about them.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
18 May 17 UTC
Not that I disagree with you. When I was in Germany, they told us quite seriously that jokes of the kind would probably keep us in the country past when our flights home left, either in jail or trying hard to stay out of it. Those laws aren't breaking news to anyone there.
TrPrado (461 D)

Yeah, this is definitely one of Germany's more controversial laws. It's only recently legal to print Mein Kampf in Germany. They tried to compensate for the fact that they committed genocide and hope that these laws will prevent fascism from coming back, but I don't think the way they set it up would necessarily prevent that sort of thing, and just keeps people from proclaiming certain beliefs about history.
TrPrado (461 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Also, yeah, bo is right. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was just a framework. It's not at all legally binding.
brainbomb (290 D)

It raises a thought in my mind.

You know how Germany is so hardcore about all that Nazi stuff and very zero toleranve.

Meanwhile the US tears down a few civil war statues and allows the kkk to exist and allows rebel flags to fly. And yet democrats get called nazis, who want to whitewash history and erase the culture of the south.

Imagine if we treated our dark history as a nation of slavery the way Germany treats its dark history of the Nazis.

I think I just proved that Social Justice Warrior mentality against slavery is properly applied.
leon1122 (190 D)

Just because we're better than Germany does not mean we're right.

I saw some conservative dude try to compare democrats to ISIS because ISIS ripped down 3000 yr old statues.

And we ripped down a statue of a guy who owned slaves and murdered black people.

Yep... thats a great equivalency.
Hauta (1618 D(S))
18 May 17 UTC
If there is no doubt (and there shouldn't be) that the holocaust occurred, what is the purpose of denying it? It's not like Germany has an ever growing list of unchallengeable truths. Given Germany's history and the very limited scope of the law, I'm ok with it for Germany.
leon1122 (190 D)
18 May 17 UTC
It is a great equivalency. ISIS rips down statues of people who offend them. Democrats tear down statues of people who offend them.

Yea uh leon you should be offended by racist slave owners who murdered black people. You shouldnt want to honor them
leon1122 (190 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Volksverhetzung: in English "incitement of the masses", "instigation of the people" (the official English translation of the German Criminal Code uses "incitement to hatred"[1][2]), is a concept in German criminal law that refers to incitement to hatred against segments of the population and refers to calls for violent or arbitrary measures against them, including assaults against the human dignity of others by insulting, maliciously maligning, or defaming segments of the population.

Doesn't sound very limited to me.
brainbomb (290 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Call it honoring history we can rip that shit down. We beat the south. We destroyed that bullshit way of life. Theres no legal reason why it deserves to be honored. If you wanna become a slave owner and bring back the confederacy good luck.
leon1122 (190 D)
18 May 17 UTC
brainbomb, this is history. I don't get offended by statues of historical figures just like I wouldn't be offended by a statue of Stalin.
Hauta (1618 D(S))

Then it should be narrowed to the scope I described.

leon1122 (190 D)

@Hauta, so should saying "slavery didn't happen" be a crime in the US as well?
brainbomb (290 D)
18 May 17 UTC
I get offended by people who look on those statues and still harbor racist beliefs and wish the South had won. There are just so many people who do. They exist leon. Maybe not where you live but ive seen it ive lived in the south. Its real. These people will fight harder to preserve a statue of a guy who beat black people to death than they will actual people today actual non slave black people who are still being beaten and killed by cops. So fuck yea Id tear all those statues down until that way of life and all its residual effects are purged from the minds of my countrymen.
brainbomb (290 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Why the fuck would we be honoring that shit? If were gonna preserve civil war statues honoring douchebags why in gods name did we erase so much native american history in our bloodlust for conquest.
JamesYanik (548 D)
18 May 17 UTC
@brainbomb

it's your right to get offended, it's not your right to censor
Hauta (1618 D(S))
18 May 17 UTC
I was thinking about that. The existence of slavery is so central to American history and denial of it would have only one purpose: hatred. Therefore, just as one can't incite a crowd to immediate violence here in America, so we know free speech is not unlimited, I would support that one expansion to a prohibition of free speech in America.
brainbomb (290 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Nobody is gonna forget that it happened by ripping down a statue of a guy who dedicated his life to foghting to protect slave owners.

But as long as the statue is ripped down no one will ever dare to think this was something to honor or revere.

It would be like us putting up a statue of Bemedict Arnold and revering it as a hero.
leon1122 (190 D)
18 May 17 UTC
"So fuck yea Id tear all those statues down until that way of life and all its residual effects are purged from the minds of my countrymen."

Sounds suspiciously like brainwashing, brainbomb. It seems your name stands for blowing people's minds into pieces so they can't have independent thought. If some fringe minority wants slavery back, let them want that. It won't happen, and they are free to think as they please.

As for black people being beaten, I've repeatedly proven in the past that they're killed at the same rate as white people when adjusted for their crime rate.

Yes, it is a shame that Native American history and people were wiped out. Does that mean we have to do the same with American history?
brainbomb (290 D)
18 May 17 UTC
Nice to see you are passionate about defending statues of racists tho.

I suppose if I make a statue of Adolf Hitler you will say "DONT RIP THAT DOWN HISTORY MIGHT ForGET!!!"

I think there is a statue of Benedict Arnold's leg in Saratoga, the battle he won against the British but where he lost his leg.

If some fringe minority wants slavery back they can fuck off and go live on the moon. They have zero place in society.

Please share games where Juggernauts fail miserably. But also include ones which work out in a 2wd (if there even is such a situtation)

Is it Treason to sympathize with the Confederacy?
Shouldnt it be treason to sympathize with the Confederacy? We fought a war and defeated them. Hundreds of thousands died more than any war fought by America. For people who still wish the south had won- chant the south shall rise again or fly its flags isnt this treason?

Should otherkin be forced to give up their human rights?
Are there any otherkin on this site? I'm genuinely curious to understand this culture more. If you identify as something non-human, do you think you have a right to get the privileges that all humans deserve? Or do you believe you're in a separate category and thus have different standards and base rules to start off with?
