I saw a dead bird on campus today
It made me pretty uncomfortable sitting on the bench near it. It was a red cardinal
I wonder why it died, and if marxism had something to do with it. I decided to sit inside instead and listen to some modest mouse.

I blame Abraham Lincoln
He screwed over the south's economy without granting them an alternative, devastated their homeland and subjugated them to the union. There's no coincidence that these people's descendants elected Trump today. They have been disenfranchised and alienated and economically subjugate since before 1860. We are paying for the sins of our fathers.

The union should've bought the slaves' freedom the same way Britain did.

Vote Hillary - the sane choice

I and every democratic minded person all over the world are begging you to do the sane thing next Tuesday and elect a proper president that we can trust with our lives, our freedoms and our democracies. The only sane choice here is Hillary Clinton.

The other candidate, the clown, is putting everything that we hold dear into jeopardy. I ask you to reject this clown and make sure we all stay strong together against super wealthy tax evading oligarchs and dictators being the best friends of the clown and enemies of the people of the free world.

Vote Hillary for everyones sake!

Your friend in Sweden.

Or support tearing down the corrupt system that you have. The US would function just fine without the federal government for a few years (as the shutdown showed) and having no president wouldn't actually harm anyone. The state governments could easily run things without interference.

Vote third party, protest peacefully, reject corrupt corporate influenced politics.
(And Yes, this isn't necessarily a saner option, but it is an option, and probably better than Trump)

The shutdown almost caused a bunch of space missions to miss their launch windows, but I guess I'm the only one here who actually cares about that. Interesting that Robert Zubrin, staunch conservative, republican and space policy adviser to Newt Gingrich is voting for Hillary just to block Trump.

I think Tim Kaine and Mike Pence HAVE to be pretty pumped up about their chances of making the white house.

it's looking good: Trump probably won't win, but if he does he'll get impeached. Clinton probably will win, but she still might get impeached

overall good chances

@Leon, i believe democracy works better on smaller scale. And human haven't figured out how to organise in groups of 100s of millions yet.

So there is that...
leon1122 (190 D)
02 Nov 16 UTC
Oops, I meant small government.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
02 Nov 16 UTC
@LeonWalrus : i like science, and i like Space. And that sucks. But i don't think a short-term failure is likely to result in a long-term end to scientific progress - whereas other issue that a government might manage would be more vital... Like say if you had to make sure homeless people had shelter, or police kept people feeling safe... Or something like that.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
02 Nov 16 UTC
@Leon, do you mean small as in representing a smaller group of people? (Which is what i'm looking at) - who could then decide they want 60% taxation and whatever they wanted it for, like universal health care... Or decide not to have that...

Or small as in, minimal governing?

Federal employees makeup a workforce larger than some entire industries. Every shutdown is a block on their pay that they won't be reimbursed for. When Congress defaults to a shutdown, it has a tremendous impact on the amount of meaningful work that can get done across the board. Projects run inefficiently when your employees have to suspend work for weeks at a time. When Republicans threaten a shutdown over government inefficiency, they yield a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Federal shutdowns will never save more in expenses when compared to the long-term reorganizing they require of our federal workforce.
TrPrado (461 D)
02 Nov 16 UTC
Quick note:
Federal workforce may be large, but it's also shrinking. Government workforces are becoming more localized. The generational shift also has led to higher turnover rates because of reasons with Millennials and Gen Xers. A big contributor of federal shrinkage and the localized shift is the federal government's increased tendency to contract out jobs instead of using hired workers. There's also lower hire rates at the federal level because the merit system complicates things quite a bit, and some states have implemented at-will employment to deal with merit system disadvantages.
TrPrado (461 D)

Okay that wasn't actually quick. I was just gonna say the first two sentences but never stopped typing.
brainbomb (290 D)

Also government shutdowns especially in summer destroy the tourism industry, and make places like the beautiful National Parks dangerous, less rangers, less govt police force, and no ability to use facilities like campgrounds. Sometimes the government shutdowns cost taxpayers huge amounts of money because mudslides and other road problems happened during the sequestration and when workers returned they found mud had hardened, or roads had been damaged and they werent able to address the situation properly. One year a fucking geyser opened in the middle of a major road and because of budget cuts and govt short staffing, people were forced to drive hundreds of miles out of their way and entire vacations were ruined. We deserve to treat our parks better, and have the finest, most amazing places to go in the world. Yellowstone is incredible and it is an example of the government at its finest when we actually maintain it.

Yet again, the will of the voters is denied. Republican gets fewer votes for the house, senate or presidency yet control all three. Yes, it is rigged

Your love for Hillary is astounding. You people honestly believe that you're more intelligent than Trump supporters? Your dumb stupid naive childish retarded minds were exposed the moment you fuckers failed the incorruptible, never-took-a-dollar-from-corporations, stood for gay rights when it was unpopular, voted against wars when they were popular Bernie Sanders.
