The Electoral College
Why not start a rousing discussion about the whether to keep the Electoral College or do away with it? We need a distraction from this wacky presidential election.

Question: Is the Imperial Senate trying to stile voters?
In a recent gallup poll, surveys discovered voters are apathetic about the upcoming elections. "I dont think we ever imagined it would come down to Jar Jar or Emperor Palpatine as our only options".

Ohio State is a solid lock to get upset today
Vegas has them as +10 favorites vs Wisconsin in Madison. Ohio State hasnt played anyone worth a crap yet. I look for a low scoring game, Wisconsin wins 17-13.

Would anyone be interested in a Diplomacy Stream?
I recently got the version of Diplomacy published by Paradox Interactive (the studio that made Europa Universalis and similar games) working on my pc. I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in watching me stream a game or two vs the AI at some point (with commentary)?

Why no messages setting option?
Why is aviable the no messages setting? I think is against the essence of the game, that's diplomacy. Nevertheless this option is very common. I think Diplomacy without diplomacy is like basketball without basket (or ball if you prefer). What do you think about it?

Question of Electoral Ethics
For the district where I'm registered to vote, the US representative seat is only being sought by one person. By Oklahoma state statute, unopposed candidates don't even appear on the ballot, nor is there the opportunity to write-in a candidate. Do you think the name of unopposed candidates should be printed on the ballot?

Diplomacy via Whatsapp in German or English
Hey guys, so a group of players from a German site came up with the idea of creating a gunboat game, exchanging phone numbers and communicate solely via whatsapp. I though that the idea is pretty cool and would love to try it out.

Full Press Explanation
I searched the rules and the faq. I may be dense. I cannot find an explanation of what full press means. Also, is it illegal to send a PM to one of the players in a game if the players are not anonymous? For example, if I see the deadline ticking down and my ally hasn't put in orders, may I send her a PM to alert her that she might miss the turn?

JamesYanik (548 D)

Frankly, I think Trump won, but he got flustered at a few points and that'll cost him. This debate for undecided voters is very important, and I think it's further pushing people away from each of them.

All in all, I think it's the headlines in the time between the debates that'll be prominent, along with fact checking and more.
brainbomb (290 D)

To sum up what the debate was, Hillary talked for 39 minutes about what she plans to do. Trump talked for 40 minutes about why Hillary is not fit to do it.

I agree that there was little substance to what Trump said, but when asked about healthcare, Clinton's response was "I want 100% coverage, lower costs, higher quality" and that was it. When asked about gun control she said she wanted to close the "gun show loophole" which is wrong, it's private unliscenced sellers. Clearly she used the party line and that's all.

she threw out party lines, but was quite vague.

Clinton supporters must be really sad after watching tonight's debate. I am sorry that your candidate is a liar and a criminal. For the rest of us we are pleased that someone is finally able to lay out the corruption, lies, and crimes of the Clinton family.
brainbomb (290 D)

Yea I dont think either candidate said anything exceptional about gun control, environmental concerns, but Hillary nailed the Supreme Court Question.
JamesYanik (548 D)

I'm just comparing this in my mind to McCain v Obama and Romney v Obama, and the detail they had. From Trump it's "Hillary is bad" and from Hillary it's "Basic Democrat platform"
ND (879 D)

Just remember if your precious Democratic party hadn't rigged the system (as shown by wikileaks) then Bernie might have been up there. But, the Clinton criminals and their allies in the Democrat Party rigged the system thus they picked someone clearly out of touch with the American people and it showed.

Frankly, I didn't watch the entire debate, but I saw a good 45 minutes.

To me, Trump performed stronger than the first debate (which is not saying much) and during the times when he wasn't blatantly lying, made better points than Hillary when he didn't sidetrack into a side point.

So, despite Donald being Donald, I think he won.
brainbomb (290 D)

Thats fair. Shes worlds behind Obama at debating. Trump is teetering as probably the worst debater since that crazed Admiral Bush Senior had.
JamesYanik (548 D)

yeah she had a good response there, but Trump also had a good response to the SC question.

except Trump kinda lied... "the most qualified" his shortlist was alright, but also dismal in other respects

Hillary looked more presidential in posture, mannerisms, I was expecting Trump to do something cliche like a mic drop on the jail comment. Was silly.

If Trump wins this, it's because he exceeded expectations, not because he was better. Both had some bad moments (the first third or so for Trump, and for Hillary, I know the guy has no redeeming qualities but is his children really the best you can do?) and both were competent for a lot of the time. I don't see a clear winner here.

I made more jokes at Trump's expense than Clinton's, but I'm not sure how much of a measure that is of how the debate went. Overall I think the loser was:
The American voter

@brain - I'm of course slightly biased in terms of what I'm interested in, but one of those main topics is healthcare costs. Clinton gave no path to how to reduce those costs, but rather just said "Keeping all these advantages of Obamacare is worth it!" Trump at least in some way outlined plans to eliminate insurance monopolies and other ways in which to lower prices.
JamesYanik (548 D)

By any standard of a debate this was another sham, and a LOT more personal than the last debate. The first fizzled out, yet this one stayed heated.

not entirely sure who that helps more

Trump seemed off on the Syria question, he could have had better answers on the Muslim issue, and really blaming Hillary for tax loopholes he took is also crazy.

All in all... I have fewer of an incentive to vote for Clinton after this debate, but more fewer incentives to vote for Trump. Not sure if that is even a sentence but i'm sticking by it

My favorite part was probably when Trump said "and Bernie Sanders" then went on to say something completely irrelevant to Bernie Sanders. Or maybe the time he said something along the lines of:
"I could mention how ______, but I won't mention that."
JamesYanik (548 D)

he means that insurance companies can use state laws and restrictions to prevent other insurance companies from competing. It's one of his few good ideas, it kills monopolies

@ND, what, in your mind, would have to happen on stage for Trump to lose a debate? I know from personal experience that it's hard to look at these things without bias, but I feel like everyone else here is at least trying, and you're declaring a clear, large-margin winner, which is simply not the case.

Unranked games have counted towards GR
Hey just wanted you guys to know that GR has been broken for a while now, with unranked games being counted towards GR since it's been integrated.

Do not worry, I've already contacted the mods, and they are working feverishly to fix the problem and it should be fixed by the next GR update, but I felt that all of you should know. Hold on one second while I get my proof for this.
