Anglo-German Alliance: The Anlgo-Saxon
I usually find that I am too paranoid of German fleets to make this one work very well. Does this one work well for anyone?

Austro-Russian Alliance: The Peppermint
It has been a long time since I have seen one of these, They seem to almost never form at the beginning of the game. It seems the Juggernaut overshadows this potent alliance. I have in the past seen Russia and Austria block Turkey in and neutralize him, in advance of turning on Germany and Italy. Then once the two of them had established dominance with their armies the rest of the map was left trying to figure out how to keep one of them from eliminating Turkey and soloing.

The new scoring systems are forms of winner takes all

I'm passionate about keeping a form of ppsc, that allows self interest in the desire to achieve wins, but also allows the winner to reward a loyal ally with points

I was amused by the part where Luke Skywalker finally gets to Tosche Station, only to find that they’re out of power converters.

I liked it. As one who was a teenager when the first three movies came out, nothing will ever compare to them. However I was never into the books or EU. They were just awesome movies.

The pace of SW Episode VII was great. I enjoyed the introduction of the new characters and the way that they handled the old ones. My only concern was Ky Lo Ren. I think they need to be careful or he can become a weak or comic character. No spoilers :-)

@CA I agree with you assessment. I was about 10 when Star Wars came out in 1977 and nothing will ever be like the original.
Sounds like we are very close to the same age, The first one came out within a week of my tenth birthday. My parents didn't take me to see it until later in the summer though.
I remember keenly the waiting period in which it seemed like everyone else had seen it. (In reality it was probably just my next door neighbor who delighted in telling me all about it.)

I won't put spoilers in this thread, but yes, you're about alone in the opinion. Second half was just as strong as the first

Umm, what exactly was filler and "garbage". Everything in there had the feel of IV, V, VI. the campy humor. loved it

@CA I saw it in the winter. We stood in line for two shows before we got in. Those were the days when theaters had a single movie. I'm in Chicago. It was an experience to say the least

I hated the entire movie.
Balrog (219 D)

No...you are not alone in thinking so. I would rate this as a one time watch movie. I can't understand all the hype surrounding this new episode.
IMO most old timers (no offense) seem to like it.
SPOILER:
They tried to pull of a Game of Thrones by killing so and so character which was kind of lame and predictable (or maybe I have become too cynical after watching GoT)

I saw the A New Hope when I was six-turning-seven and saw it probably 6 or 7 times in the theater. Totally transforming experience.

EpVII:TFA was a good, solid Star Wars movie. It hit all the plot points it needed to while dealing with a really large cast of characters. This was a bit unavoidable as it was necessary to bring the audience forward 20-ish years into the future while simultaneously giving plenty of screen time to movie stars like Harrison Ford and new characters Rey and Finn. Plenty of space fighter battles, blaster fights and light saber duels. I think JJ Abrams set it up for a great Ep8&9. I hope they can deliver.

Kuta Bear. I knew we were close in age. I saw episode VII in 3 D and would suggest not to. Aside from the space fighting scenes it was kinda lame. The one terrible part of the movie was some of the dialogue.

SPOILERS

killing Han, but keeping Chewy and the Falcon is not going to play out well, they should have pulled an Independence Day and rammed the oscillator. Also, WTF Luke, they turned him into some kind of weak puss hermit, and they made Leia much less independent than she was in 4,5&6

The character development of the oldies wasnt there, but I do look forward to some interesting backstories. episode VIII needs to make Luke turn into a Yoda-esque character, and we need some solid plot, not like the shit filler in Empire

That said, I loved the movie as a whole, but it did feel a little more rushed by the end. Loved Fin and Rey and Poe's banter though, there were some highlights there
@Balrog - Not every movie or whatever is comparable to GoT. Episode VII is completely unlike GoT in almost every way, so I don't know why you're comparing it. Even the manner of the deaths was so completely different. How about this *spoiler* - movies killed people before GoT came out.

If the movie was predictable, that's because you saw episode iv, which it intentionally mirrored.

@JY

ACTUAL SPOILERS HERE

Your comments about Luke and Leia are completely off. Luke allowed his best friends son - and his nephew - to be turned to the dark side. He watched his work at rebuilding the Jedi order go up in smoke, unable to stop it. He felt responsible for the emergence of the First Order. So, in grieving and in shame he went into exile. The parallels to Yoda are clear.

As for Leia, she's in charge of the motherfuckin Resistance. She didn't tie herself to Han by going after him. She had her job and she did it. What more do you want from her? And you're the first person I've heard call Empire a weak movie. It was the best of the OT!

I'd say i mostly like it. I'm forgiving of some of the challenge they faced of having to recreate a spirit from somebody else's work, bring back a few actors who clearly didn't have the same passion for it as the fanbase, make up to the fans for all the prequel hate, all while trying to tell a good new story with a good launching off point.

I think for the most part the did what they needed to do, it was a decent story line and tapped into the nostalgia enough to appease the loyal fan base. I think now that all the proving themselves is out of the way they're going to be able to move forward nicely and the trilogy as a whole should turn out to be pretty cool.

My biggest criticism is leaning too much on history repeating itself. There was definitely some mirroring of the original Star Wars movie that got to feel a little 'too' familiar. It doesn't have to be that tightly knitted to family in some sense or other. We get similar catalysts for character developments. Perhaps one too many throwback 'easter eggs' that it started to feel cheap here and there.

But what they got right was right. The acting wasn't as stiff as the prequels and you connected with the new characters. They were able to use leverage modern effects and use CGI in a way that didn't feel overly cartoony balanced against costumed characters that didn't revert too far back to being muppety.

Just go enjoy, it was awesome.

I gave it a 3/5 (or 7 if you'ree into trolling). I thought it looked great. Realistic use of CGI as opposed to flashy. Like the original trilogy, it looked realand believable. On the downside, I didn't come out of it feeling invested in any of the new characters except Kylo Ren. He had depth that the others lacked. To use wrestling parlance, they ended up putting over the wrong characters at the expense of the new stars they're trying to build.
However, I have to remain upbeat about future installments because with IV, they didn't know a trilogy would eventually be made (though that was the hope). In this case, they have more time to build drama and character, as opposed to the original trilogy when all the drama shot its load at the end of V and thru to the end of VI.
Just my opinion though.

i guess my main complaint (and i agree with that 3 out of 5 rating, roj) is that the pacing in the second half was so fast that every scene seemed to be piled on top of the other -- no moments of reflection, no time for suspense to build, for there to be a sense of danger -- there wasn't a strong sense of place either -- just seemed like a video game. I know it's just Star Wars and should be pure entertainment, but that doesn't mean it can't be good.
ah well. I've still seen it twice.
