Anyways, the requirements for the tournaments are as follows:

The Masters
Minimum of 43 players (plus subs).
Tournament is strictly WTA. 7 games long. Play every player and every country exactly once. Whoever has the most solos at the end wins.

The World Cup
Minimum of 14 regional teams of 4 needed. There are two rounds of play. Each round consists of 5 games (2 FP, 1 PP, 2 GB). Scoring is 420 for a solo, 420/n points for a draw, plus the number of SC's you have at the end of the game. Gunboat scores are halved. Top teams from each division move on to the final.

The Leagues:
This one I'm a bit more fuzzy on. Play is PPSC, with the results from one season being used in the seeding for the next (think Premier League). I would venture to have a decent reboot we need at least 35 people.

Hey now, I just don't want to step on toes. The returning TD for the other tournaments is either me or non-existent.

The leagues were definitely WTA (possibly with a center-based tiebreaker) when I played them. They were interesting because they were non-anom and metagaming was encouraged.

The World Cup was very fun, and I'd definitely play again, but 2nd raises a valid concern.

The Masters is like communism. Beautiful and elegant on paper but unfortunately prone to humanity's shortcomings.

Heres my opinion. Tournaments are awesome, but having a hodge podge of inconsistent competing tournaments sucks, which is what happened before most of the tournaments started dying off.

Tru has done a great job revitalizing the tournament scene with official site support. If we do bring tournaments back, let's try to do it in a way that follows that model and complements already existing ones.

Personally, I like tournaments, but I don't think there should be multiple tournaments which run concurrently as that's when they start competing with each other and tiring everyone out. I think we went through a period of having too many tournaments at once that tired everyone out, and that was then followed with far too few/zero tournaments up until Tru started his new one.

I would be happy to help out with organising one with you, once Tru's tournament is over/almost over, though, goldie.

That post sounded more negative than I intended. I think what gold is doing is great, let's just make sure each tournament fills its own niche and are spaced such that people don't have to chose between tournaments.

I'd be in for Leagues. I'd consider Masters and perhaps I'd even consider World Cup :P

abge, what tournaments has Tru brought besides the ongoing one with money? I'm afraid I haven't been paying much attention.

Should the Masters have a minimum of 49? 42? I'm confused. 43 isn't a multiple of 7, according to my TI-89

I think World Cup Scenarios would have to be avoided with an arbitary cut-off (IE, anyone alive at the end of A1918 is deemed to have drawn the game, or something like that).

The world cup is a great tournament that was ruined only by the ridiculous last game. The Masters was always too much like hard work towards the end. I feel it would benefit from being shortened in size, even though it would mean losing the everyone plays everyone idea. All I remember of the leagues is Draugnar getting very angry about them.

Valis - 7 rounds, one person gets a bye in each round. "8th" round is that all the people with byes play each other. Its the only way that everyone plays each other exactly once while playing each country exactly once. Any other way leads to duplication in countries or not playing every person. Much improved from the last go around

I would be willing to help organize the leagues if/when there's interest. I very much enjoyed winning them before.

Anyways, I'm going to let this sit here for a little while. Each of these tournaments is big in scale - requires 40+ people (with RR +95) to have a decent shot of making it. The Leagues and World Cup, tbh, would be better off with 80+ people involved (21 teams in WC, 10 leagues). There used to be enough people on the site to fill that demand easily. I just want to see if that level of interest is here at all.

I thought leagues were great. Masters seemed a bit long with alot of replacements required.

People can barly keep things going with one game. One of the reasons I joined tru's tourney, is that a monetary commitment was involved. That should keep interest.

Is the reliability rating reliable now?

I've played in both the Masters and the League, and thoroughly enjoyed them. But, both need players who will stick around, and the Masters especially requires a whole bunch of time.

I'm intrigued by the regional team aspect of the World Cup, and fewer games to have to commit to is a plus. The four people still playing the endless 2012 game could play in a 2015 or whatever version at the same time if they wanted, neither affects the other.

Please disregard the 2012 endless game. That could theoretically happen in any tournament scenario where multiple people can win the tourney if they solo.

I was part of the first Masters' Tourney. It was pretty good. There were a LOT of great names involved, including MM, Babak, Spell of Wheels, Centurian, jmo, Laoban, DonXavier, MasterGamer, rdrivera, obiwan, FK, ivo, djbent and a whole slew of others that I'm forgetting. That's what made the first one amazing. It was the toughest competition I've played on this site, and at a time when I had to sacrifice good grades in college to do well (retook Calculus more than once :( ).

If we could get that type of powerhouse group together again, I'd be down for a tournament like that. It's what I was hoping to garner with the Webdiplomacy Tournament. I didn't play in the Master's the next time through due to time constraints, and the third one fell apart.
