In the Year 2525...If Man is Still Alive...If Woman Can Survive...They Will Find...?
Well, what'll they find?

What states or institutions will have risen or fallen? What people will have risen, fallen, maybe even (sadly) disappeared as the result of war or disease? What artists and writers and even shows and films that we care about now will still be praised...and what will make for remarkably-good landfill?

Trick or Treat cancelled. WTF?
Many towns and cities around where I live are "cancelling" trick or treat and moving it to Fri., Sat., or Sun. Question is: Since when is it the cities job/responsibility to tell the citizens if they are "allowed" to go T or T'ing. I should add, yeh, there is some rain and wind (oh,no save me) but it is *nowhere* near a storm. Doesn't change the fact that a town/city (thinks it) has that much *authority* THAT'S BUUUUUULLLLSHIT!!!

e-Cigs / Nicotine Delivery System

Recently bought a few packs of cig’s after not smoking for probably ten years – jut stressed and wanted to, but realized it stinks, expensive, etc….so I bought an e-cigarette, which is essentially just a vaporizer/nicotine-delivery system – a cartridge with nicotine and food additives. I’m reading up on nicotine and finding all sorts of positives, and the negatives are always tobacco related….so why shouldn’t *everyone* smoke e-cigs? Anyone else smoke e-cigs? Thoughts?
Draugnar (0 DX)

I'd rather chew on a cigar or pipe stem. But then, I don't smoke them for the nicotine as I'm not addicted to the shit (one big neg, nicotine is highly addictive and bad for diabetic blood glucose).

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1916666/

"Nicotine caused significant hyperglycaemia during and for about 1 h after infusion. Tissue release of glucose was occasionally observed following the infusion. "

"so why shouldn’t *everyone* smoke e-cigs?"

You mean, like, babies too?
krellin (80 DX)
31 Oct 13 UTC
@Draug - yes, it inhibits insulin, I think I read...not good for you.

And I've never had an addiction to cigarettes - always been able to take them or leave them (as opposed to alcohol, which strangles me like a two-bit whore after a crack pipe)

But for the average person, it seems nicotine is certainly no more dangerous than caffeine or most fo the shit we put in our bodies, has many effects, including as a mental stimulant, helps memory, fights on-set of alzheimer’s, etc. Pretty interesting drug *once separated* from the vile shit in tobacco. Plus, add some food additives to make a pleasant flavor…BAM! Start handing this shit our in schools with the shiny new iPads…

@2WL…if only I had another baby to exprement on. But, alas, my youngens are mid-teens. Might you have a baby we can play with?

I tried on of these a few weeks ago. I don't smoke besides cigars, and haven't done that for at least a year now, but the e-cigarette was pretty good. In a bar setting, though, it really looks very feminine so I don't know if this will catch on for everyone. Also, I don't know how effective it can be with quitting, since the girl who let me borrow it promptly went out to smoke a real one two more times that night.

But hey, maybe she's just the outlier. Far better that people get nicotine in a way that it's only the nicotine that harms their body than in a way that also has all that tar and chemical gunk harm their body too.

More shit on nicotine

Extracted from http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/features/nicotine-why-its-bad-you/

• Nicotine binds to an area of the brain known as the adrenal medulla, which increases the flow of adrenaline. This in turn causes increased blood pressure, heart rate and respiration, and these conditions exacerbate existing heart and blood pressure problems.

• Nicotine can contribute to sleep disorders. It stimulates the nervous system and when taken at nighttime it ensures that the user is alert and awake rather than deep in restorative sleep.

You're an idiot for willingly putting a toxin in your body.

"You're an idiot for willingly putting a toxin in your body."

Have you ever had a glass of wine with a meal? Have you ever eaten trans fat? Almost everything is fine in moderation, and if you're addicted it's certainly better to just get one toxin in you rather than dozens.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Krellin is suggesting everyone *become* addicted, though, Invictus.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Nicotine addiction is not healthy. However, it is orders of magnitude less not healthy than the other shit in cigarettes. Probably not a great idea to start smoking, but if you already do, it's great to switch to ecigarettes.
Invictus (240 D)
31 Oct 13 UTC
From what I've seen, nicotine on its own (without the stuff that comes along with any kind of tobacco product) is no worse than caffeine. If that's really true, we should be dropping e-cigarettes out of hot air balloons to get people hooked on nicotine for its appetite-suppressing properties. You don't see many obese smokers, after all.

That's 99% a joke. Just so its clear.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 13 UTC
No, Invictus, you need to do more research. Nicotine is far worse than cafienne. Read up on some of the links I provided.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 13 UTC
And yes, the nicotine weight loss progrma... Good joke. :-)

Endorphines are a much better weight loss control system. Exercise before you eat and not only do yo burn the calories, but the endorphines kill the appetite.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

In Invictus' defense, I know people who abuse caffeine worse than people who use nicotine. I once knew a guy who needs 4 Monsters every day just to function. I'm guessing he'll die of heart failure before he's 45.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
31 Oct 13 UTC
Granted, Mr. 4-Monsters-every-day is no better than Mr. 2-packs-a-day, but Mr. Monsters is probably less healthy than Mr. e-cigarettes.
Draugnar (0 DX)
31 Oct 13 UTC
Monster only has 140mg of caffien per 16 oz can. And 8 oz cup of coffee has from 95 to 200 mg in just 8 oz. Coffee is *far* worse on the cafienne and energy drinks have various B vitamins that actually are good for you.

If only caffeine had any effect whatsoever on long-term heart health, which it doesn't.

Draugnar (0 DX)

Really red? I'm an avid cigar and pipe smoker. Are you just commenting on the saliva issue from the manufacturer? Cause premium cigars are pur tobacco leave grown without pesticides and aged (and slightly fermented) before being roilled in the cigar. Cigarettes have actual additives and are *far* worse than any cigar.

@JMO - do you drink coffee or soda/pop? Drink alcohol? Do you eat boxed <anything> from the grocery store? Don't get all self-righteous about "putin toxins in my body".

I'm curious -- did you even *read* the information about nicotine? It is *hardly* a deadly drug in moderation when used in the absence of the toxins of cigarettes. I'm not talking about smoking tobacco - I'm talking about a pure nicotine delivery system.

@Draug - I read the cosmos link -- well, I read the very few bullet points associated with nicotine specifically, and ignored the "smoking" points - because "nicotine" =/= smoking.

I will refer you to my link in which many of the positive benefits of nicotine are discussed.

I was alone in my basement with the lights dimmed when the power went out. The room went pitch black. I was watching Halloween 4 - the TV didn't shut off for about 10 seconds even after the power went out.

I just did the first school test that made me laugh out loud.
So I had to turn -254 into an 8-digit binary number. It took me about 10 minutes to figure it out and now I can't stop smiling :)

How fast would you guys figure it out? And what IS the answer? I just want to hear someone else saying it to be sure, before I can start learning French :)

I'm going for....
1) Goldeneye, for the incredibly strong come-back element and its way of weaving recent history into the plot + special effects that are not over the top
2) Living Daylights, I think Timothy Dalton never quite got the credit he deserved

One of you created a fake blankflag account today. Your schoolgroup is already notorious for making multi's and cheating.

With that in mind, the person who made this account has 48 hours to come forward, or we're just banning the entire districts ip's. You will all be able to play from home, but not during class.
