What the fuck? This is an outrageous and embarrassing thing for the President of the US to share.

Look in the comments. Almost every single one, and rightly so, is labeling it as evil and repugnant. Almost every comment is something along the lines of "Trump, I support you, but come on dude this is just stupid."

And I couldn't agree more. Especially depicting a giant golden statue of the man as if it were an ideal, it's absolutely ridiculous.

It's honestly a funny video in a dark humour way, but an extremely moronic thing for Trump to share on his socials.

This post was either a genuine reflection of his thinking on Gaza, a massive lapse in judgement, or something that was expected to appeal to some significant share of his base — any of which are an indictment on his presidency.

Obviously the actual policy on the ground is what really matters, but childish shit like this adds insult to injury for no apparent reason. To channel my inner Jamie: Fuck Trump.

I think this can be interpreted as Trump's determination to maintain an informal and jokey relationship with his supporters rather than becoming the Office of President and putting inevitable distance between him and his base... And he's certainly managed to avoid personifying the Office by doing this.

Clearly extremely poor taste (nothing new there), but also refreshing self deprecating. I think it's safe to say it doesn't work for us, but neither does it change anything for us. To the intended audience maybe it is appreciated as evidence that Trump is not being corrupted by his Office. We can but speculate.

You work backwards, always, from the idea that Trump's moves are strategic and well thought out. Many Trump decisions no doubt are.

But one possibility you neglect is that Trump might just be a 78 year old ego maniac, surrounded by sycophants, firing from the hip on all sorts of issues he may not understand very well nor particularly care about. It's wrong to analyze all Trump decisions in this way, as some do - but that strikes me as a relatively parsimonious explanation for this extremely misguided Truth Social post compared to the alternatives you've presented.

Even if you're right and I'm wrong, Trump sharing that video represents a degree of moral bankruptcy that degrades the Office of the Presidency and cartoonifies the administration's policy towards Israel-Gaza. No other Republican president would be doing this silly shit - so shame on Trump's enablers.

Trump is obviously very talented in many dimensions. Very few people could have captured and totally reorientation the Republican party from the outside. Nobody is as good at "the weave" as him. He was right about China at a time when many establishment types laboured under outdated dogmas. He's an expert insulter, name-caller, and attention-getter.

All I'm saying is he obviously has blind spots, something you never seem to consider in practice. And they're not subtle blind spots. He's ego driven, petty and vindictive. He's not much for reading. He prefers loyalty over competence for his inner circle. He appears to personally engage social media unfiltered and in the middle of the night in a manner that's clearly not well thought out. He says shit before he or his team have actually thought it through—quotes from his own people regarding his plan to expel all the Gazans confirm this. So yeah, when he shares an absolutely moronic social media post it's possible that it has more to do with his blind spots than his brilliance.

You are of the opinion that Trump created that video on a whim and just posted it? It is possible, but only if the AI he's using is packing a hell of a lot more punch than anything I've seen and he has become extremely comfortable using it and he was both in his most trigger happy reckless mood as well as being far less worried about unflattering images of him being shown than usual. To me it feels highly unlikely that all these stars aligned and far more likely that this was a deliberate and thought through action.

Trump didn't create the video, he shared it. It's someone else's video. The original intention of the video's creator was probably to satirize Trump's ill-concieved plan for Gaza.

The punch it's packing is because it's fucking awful. So many people are vocally disgusted by it and a few disgusting people love it.

There's nothing stopping you from thinking Trump is playing 7 dimensional chess in every Truth Social post but it's not likely.
