Democrat Window Ban
Trump's latest baseless claim is that the Democrats want to ban....
windows
Not the Microsoft operating system, but those panes of glass which allow you to look out of buildings.
Trump thinks the Democrats want all new buildings to have no windows.
He is totally senile.

Isn't this kind of exaggeration his usual method of communication?

Sadly. He'd be such a better politician if he didn't use this sort of hyperbole, I'm not sure why he still does it.learnedSloth wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 3:31 pmIsn't this kind of exaggeration his usual method of communication?

I'm not sure if I'd describe it as skillful. Imho, he throws it out willy nilly, and the internet just blows it up because it is often misinformation (or at the very least it is a gross misrepresentation of scale with some intent to mislead).Esquire Bertissimmo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 9:11 pmOn the contrary, Trump's most important political talent might his skillful use of hyperbole.CaptainFritz28 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:05 pmSadly. Success in this context means conveying your policy agenda succinctly, exciting your base, and getting media attention. Trump is masterful at using hyperbole and lies to do all of these things.kingofthepirates wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 10:20 pmI'm not sure if I'd describe it as skillful. I suppose Trump has just taken the old saying of "there's no such thing as bad publicity" to its logical extreme.

True, I was mainly stating my opinion that Trump isn’t necessarily doing it purposefully with knowledge of the consequences. I’m pretty convinced he’s just spouting things randomly without accounting for all the results (basically shouting random things without caring about what happens after).Esquire Bertissimmo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 10:22 pmSuccess in this context means conveying your policy agenda succinctly, exciting your base, and getting media attention. Re: Democrat Window Ban
If he's actually just a moron then he's exceedingly lucky that his ramblings are so captivating to ~40% of Americans.kingofthepirates wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 11:19 pmTrue, I was mainly stating my opinion that Trump isn’t necessarily doing it purposefully with knowledge of the consequences. I think Trump possesses a unique charisma and media savvy. He is genuinely funny and energetic. What appears boorish to his critics is charming to his supporters. His half-truths and poorly developed policy ideas are often clearer than the more polished statements of his opponents. For example, much of what he says about immigration is factually wrong (Haitians in Springfield aren't eating pets), but these stories unmistakably convey his stance.
Re: Democrat Window Ban
He is also a master at controlling the media narrative. Here we are two weeks from the election, and no one is talking about his inept response to COVID, or his attempted violent coup on January 6th. Instead, it's Haitian immigrants eating pets, democrats controlling the weather, and windows. And whatever outrageous exaggeration he comes up with next to deflect attention from a real issue.
Re: Democrat Window Ban
your takes on this man are so forgiving and so conciliatory to his batshit supporters id almost think you live in some stepford wives suburb full of doctors and academians with gardeners and pleasant trump signs adoring every yard.CaptainFritz28 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:05 pmSadly. Re: Democrat Window Ban
I think capitalism has a role to play here. Over decades, the goal of the primary and secondary education system (particularly secondary schooling) has been refined around a narrow focus of giving children skills that employers want, at the expense of a wider understanding of the world. Critical thinking skills are not emphasised. The result is several generations of people unable to filter truth from fantasy, when uttered by manipulative weirdos like Trump.

Re: Democrat Window Ban
While this is probably true, it seems a little convenient to chock this up to "people I disagree with got even more ignorant".Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 11:16 amI think capitalism has a role to play here. Trump broke a trend of dynastic politics in the US — many people didn't want another Clinton or Bush.
He ended the bipartisan consensus in favour of free trade, forever wars, and friendly relations with China.
He remains a cultural force that pushes back against a the disdain and indifference of elites against rural, religious, and non-college educated.
He has pushed back forcefully against what I think most people now recognize as progressive excess during the pandemic (defund the police, de facto open borders, etc.).
I think he's absolutely despicable. I think the election denialism alone is disqualifying. But the Trump phenomenon isn't born solely of ignorance.

Ha! I try to give politicians the benefit of the doubt, whether they be in agreement or opposition with my political views. Sometimes I do better than others... but it helps quite a lot in mitigating conspiracy theories from both sides.brainbomb wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 4:45 amyour takes on this man are so forgiving and so conciliatory to his batshit supporters id almost think you live in some stepford wives suburb full of doctors and academians with gardeners and pleasant trump signs adoring every yard.CaptainFritz28 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:05 pmSadly. When the whole world seems to take one extreme position or another, it's useful to see people for the best they could be. We are all merely human.

Re: Democrat Window Ban
This is definitely a factor. ngl I feel like the media (to be fair I live in a solidly blue state so this might just be me) is often playing 'catch up' to Trump's claims. They'll be running stories on how eating pets is false while Trump moved past that and is yapping about hurricanes and what not, and there just isn't enough time to rip his stories apart.Trigfea63 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 4:42 amHe is also a master at controlling the media narrative. Regardless though, imo at this point (early voting has started in several states, is very close in others, and election day itself is 2 short week away) theres very little left to be done to sway voters to either side and its become mainly a question of mobilization...

Re: Democrat Window Ban
All people are bad people:
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
