Hi Everyone!
If you're interested in attending but concerned or nervous for some reason please get in touch - this is a friendly tournament aimed at players new to face-to-face Diplomacy and the aim is to have a good time and meet people as well as playing the game. If there's anything I can do to help that, just email me at [email protected]

Re: Melbourne Open Diplomacy Tournament
This is THIS WEEKEND EVERYONE! Wowowow! I will be there, and I hope you will too. Especially Durga. You're swimming into harbour any time now, right?
Re: Melbourne Open Diplomacy Tournament
I guess you must be the oldest one there now? I assume people like Frank M., Tristan Lee or Bill Brown are long gone?TheGoffy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:33 amHi Everyone!

I need to time my next trip to Oz around this tournament. Or play by drone.

@flash:
Sadly, Bill Brown passed away recently. Glasses were raised, and words were said. Goffy named the boards at the tournament in Bill's honour.
Tristan Lee is I believe not in the country anymore (he was around before I was, I never met him). Are you an Australian player?

Oh, no! I didn't know. I am sorry to hear that! Last sent him an email about a decade ago (time flies). I think Bill put me up when I went down to his Geelong tournament one year.
Yes, I was an Australian player (I even ran a tournament for a couple of years)...but I haven't played face to face in a long, long, LONG time (early nineties). After a good couple of years, I think we were having trouble getting enough players to come to the tournaments (not much point if you don't get AT LEAST three tables) so I lost interest too.

Actually, perhaps I am getting Bill and Ken Sproat confused on the Geelong thing...

Re: Melbourne Open Diplomacy Tournament
@BrownPaperTiger - the Melbourne Open was played last year pre-Covid. PoppyCon happened in March this year weeks before everything went crazy.
Seeing Melbourne is just coming out of lockdown now, it may be a little while until we see another f2f tourney.
