Re: Twenty questions, round 296
I am not playing tricks with the definition of countries here. I feel confident that, if I were to whisper to you (or any of the other players here) the correct answer and you were to look at the person's Wikipedia page, you would quickly conclude that my "pass" to the China/Taiwan/Japan birthplace question was the only reasonable answer I could have given to that question.cdngooner wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 6:52 pmWe need to drill down on the reason for the pass on place of birth. I assume the place is unknown, but Spartaculous could be playing tricks with the political definition of the birthplace.
Do you know, or can one find out on the person's Wikipedia page (if they have one), where this person was born (even if the political expression of that place is uncertain)?
So: No.

So somehow it is not known what place or what country this person was born, yet it is known that they were born in the northern hemisphere, and not in the Americas, and it is known when he was born. Curious.

Re: Twenty questions, round 296
Great subject and great guess. I was really wondering why the scientist/athlete/inventor was passed and now it makes sense.
Re: Twenty questions, round 296
I was looking at the border of China on the Sino-Tibetan languages map, and then thought, "Wait...Sherpas" and it all fell into place. This and Princess Lilibet have been my most satisfying correct guesses in this game. Great pick.

I take that back. He says he was born in Nepal, but I guess I get the pass.

From Wikipedia:
In a 1985 interview with All India Radio, he said his parents came from Tibet, but that he was born in Nepal.[need quotation to verify][7] According to many later accounts, including a book co-written by his son Jamling Tenzin Norgay, he was born in Tibet,[8][9] at Tse Chu in the Kama Valley, and grew up in Thame.[10] He spent his early childhood in Kharta, near the north of the country. Norgay went to Nepal as a child to work for a Sherpa family in Khumbu.[3][11][12][13][14][15]
Born May 1914
Tengboche, Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, or Tse Chu, Ü-Tsang, Tibet
