Alright!
Unless there's disagreement, then Percy and I will do M45
but, now the question is: What exactly do we need to know about GM'ing? :D

The OP should be updated, along with the document for GMs. If I missed something please let me know.

Yes, famous last words indeed xd
Re: wD Mafia Master Post
There is now a list of future GMs toward the top of the OP of this thread. This should prevent confusion down the road.
Other than promising worcej M46, I do not know of any lineup for future games. If you want to claim your spot, just post here. Please don't PM me. I highly suggest that all games have a co-GM, but it's not a requirement.
I'm not going to start a lineup spanning more than three future games. That's at least three months time, if not more. There's no need for anyone to be committed to running something further out than that. If you just have to run M73 because your setup has something to do with prime numbers, you'll have to wait until M70 is ongoing to "officially" claim it.

What are the prerequisites for hosting a game? Does one need to be a co-host before? One of my biggest wishes since long time ago was to host my own game just like I see people do around various forums. I've been fervent longing for this experience

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
While we recommend co-GMing first, it isn't a requirement.
We used to have a council that would make hosting lists, but now it is done by 'first come' situations. There is a list further up on this thread.
The council also used to approve set-ups. Particularly with inexperienced GM's. While we don't have that, we still recommend that you show your set-up to experienced players, to make sure it is balanced, and makes sense.
For your first time, I recommend having an experienced GM co-host with you. We have a lot of them, and if no one is able, I'd be happy to fill that spot with you.
In the end, this is a forum game at webDiplomacy. The moderators keep an eye on things, without attempting to have daily 'control.' Bo has been doing this, and recently I have been trying on that hat.

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
I really liked Jamie's post in the M 46 sign-up thread.
Regarding why deadposting is prohibited.
It doesn't make sense, sometimes, to disallow someone making a joke, or posting despair, or even saying, "G-bye!"
But the GM has to be able, then, if we allowed that, to determine whether someone is being very clever, and doing some sort of secret reveal. These games are intense, and have a number of VERY sneaky folk. Having to figure out all the possible secret meanings of even an innocent deadpost would drive a busy GM bonkers.
This, too, I think, is why we continue to prohibit +1ing by active players. It MIGHT be something... But while I can imagine ways that a scummy might get a final message in the thread after death by deadposting, I can't come up with a way that +1ing could be used to 'cheat.' The data is open and in front of all.. and MIGHT actually add to the game's deduction opportunities.
One danger I see... is that the +1ing might actually encourage lurkers (of which I have often been Crown Prince.) It would APPEAR to be participating. But I think the room could handle that.

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
It should be considered that it is quite easy to unknowingly +1 on a small device. I have been guilty of this.

Thanks for clarifications, dargo. Might start with a mini this summer.dargorygel wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 11:59 am

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
I think we should leave the decision on +1'ing up to the GMs of individual games. I am personally opposed to it, but also don't see a big risk of abuse now that there's a time-stamped record. In particular, concerns about cheating seem overblown: if two players are going to conspire to cheat by abusing the +1 system, they're probably already cheating by messaging about it, so they don't even need the extra step. I am a little more concerned about players confusing clicking +1 on posts for actually participating in the game; I think there's value in making players post.
Re: wD Mafia Master Post
The primary reason +1s are still prohibited is because they can be removed without leaving a trace. Cheating is possible in mafia as it is in any game, but I think it is both fair and safe to trust that people aren't cheating. That said, there's no reason to open up more avenues that could be used to cheat, and +1s certainly could be used to cheat without leaving a trace.

I know we had a list a few months ago... But we skipped over some folk and more promises have been made and some people have schedules and such... But here is what I have: (if you want to be on the list let us know... Sorry for the confusion... Trying to get things on track.)

I feel like people should post sign ups whenever they want. If a game fills then it can go and others can wait until that game is over. We can run multiple games now yknow.
