Claesar: Thanks for setting this up for us :)

In the A+B column for Power SC totals, Germany has 5 SCs by mistake instead of France. Probably a formula mix up on cells ;)

Flight A's Game Two has ended in a three-way draw between England, Germany, and Turkey. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=242306

1a. Matticus13 (Germany, 15 centers)
1b. mdrltc (Turkey, 10 centers)
1c. Fortress Door (England, 9 centers)
4a. Claesar (Austria, eliminated)
4b. Carl Tuckerson (France, eliminated)
4c. New England Fire Squad (Russia, eliminated)
4d. rdrivera2005 (Italy, eliminated)

edit: wow, those colors do not work... and no time to figure out a fix :-( I'll see what I can do for future announcements

Thanks, temporarily fixed.

It appears my formulas don't update when I sort rows. I'll have to think on a solution.

Noteworthy trends in these results:
- Germany and Austria placed twice
- France is dead last, only power eliminated in every game
- Matticus is crushing it, only player to place in all three finished games

Oops :-)

Amended: France joins the illustrious company of non-Austria non-Germany countries to place once. Nothing to see here, everything is fine with the state of France in the metagame

These preliminary results may make Austria look decent, but keep in mind that Austria has already been eliminated in every single ongoing Flight A game. That score won't increase.

Austria already has 7 eliminations (out of 14), whereas no other power has more than 3.

Reminder: Don't discuss ongoing Gunboats here. So don't comment on the performance of an Austria in another match.

Caveat that we're not even done with the series yet, the following commentary only reflects finished games, and even once we finish this is only a sample size of seven...

Germany's performance has been incredible. It's averaging a 12-SC finish while the remaining six countries have a combined average of roughly 4 SCs, has the only solo, and only failed to convert one performance of those finished so far into a win or draw.

It's interesting to try to discern the impact of this dominance. Turkey is the best of the next group of performers, with a respectable 7-SC average; this makes sense to me given that Turkey is the only power that's meaningfully distant from Germany. Rounding out the middle tier is England, Russia, and Austria; Russia got its results from a great game by Matticus involving a rare German defeat, England got its results from allying Germany in two successful finishes, and Austria split the difference (which makes sense as a power that can be a natural ally to Germany but can also end up a formidable lategame rival). France's nightmarish performance can reasonably be attributed to German dominance and the persistence of an E/G metagame.
Italy's performance surprises me a bit, but if you consider that Germany's dominance has resulted in a weak Russia and thus a strong Turkey or Austria, Italy doesn't actually benefit very much from German dominance here--only in the context that it prevents French dominance, but replacing French masters for German ones doesn't help very much.

I'll save policy prescriptions until all seven games are finished, in the spirit of not influencing ongoing games in which I'm a participant, but this has gotten me thinking.

As Claesar reported, Flight A has finished!

Game 4 has ended in a three-way draw between France, Italy, and Turkey. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?game ... #gamePanel
Game 6 has ended in three-way draw between England, Turkey, and Russia. https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?game ... #gamePanel

Congrats to all the participants!

I think I'm going to write something about this series and possible meta implications.

I didn't follow this too closely but my own personal experience in Gunboats lately is that Austria, Germany, and Turkey have been performing very well. I think France has been performing quite poorly.
