Re: Oprah For Prez bitches
A billionaire businessperson with no political experience running for office? How unprecedented!
Or is she not being taken seriously because of more "physical" distinctions from the precedent.

I don't know what that last comment is about @Yoyo. I am laughing because she has never shown any interest in it until Trump won. Then every Hollywood type thinks they can do it. They can't. Trump won because 1) He had a message: MAGA, 2) He reached out to the forgotten men and women of this country, 3) He has been an effective administrator and builder for forty years.

Its absurd...
I realize that Trump has been disappointing in many ways to any moderately objective observer but we can't just say, "Hey! Person X is better than Trump!" or there would be 100 million presidents.

Brad - none of those things are Trump's doing, I hope you realize. Stock market returns are pretty independent of presidential policy

Unemployment is thanks largely to economic cycle and the Fed. NK always wants to participate in Korean Olympic games, so unless you're proud of "my button is bigger than yours" Trump has done nothing yo get rid of the nuclear weapons. And the uprisings in 2009 were much more serious than these, but I don't think anyone gave Obama credit for those.

Wrong! Stock markets returns are based on optimism, and Trump gave investors reason for optimism. In addition, the stock markets rose the fastest in the weeks following the tax law.goldfinger0303 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 5:24 amBrad - none of those things are Trump's doing, I hope you realize. Leon, that would be Congress's doing, not Trump's. And stock market returns are based on economic outlooks, which are largely independent of presidential policy. The big things, like tax reform, are Congress, not the President. I mean, ffs he doesn't even know the details of it. He just wanted something on his desk to sign. If you're going to give a president credit for something legislative, at least have it be something he championed, like Obamacare, the New Deal, or anything a president with vision has pushed through.
And even then, giving Trump credit for this tax plan is a bad thing because it's a fucking travesty.

I have to agree with Leon here. A Premier who doesn't inspire confidence can lead to a pretty severe knock in the stock markets. To unemployment too, for that matter. Trump has certainly benefited from some strong tail winds in terms of the economy, but it's possible to play a good hand badly and he's played his pretty well.goldfinger0303 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 5:26 amUnemployment is thanks largely to economic cycle and the Fed. In terms of the Koreas, it's too early to tell whether his different approach is working or not. What we do know is that the previous approach failed pretty consistently.
On the world stage, he has actually enforced the red line on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, whilst Obama cowardly looked the other way. I don't think the significance of that event should be underestimated.

"People I read and respect are actually saying of an Oprah candidacy, “Hmmm, it’s an idea.” That’s what a toddler thinks before she swallows a disc battery."
Not necessarily a great article but I found that quote funny, if not true.

Re: Oprah For Prez bitches
Oprah is starting with a bigger audience, I mean political supporter base, than Trump ever pulled in on TV. Plus with her gift giving to them, there will be more loyalty and more that will join to receive.
She isn't starting off having to overcome as many negatives.
