I doubt his team has had any say in it. All they can do is either bus him (I don't think anyone currently voting him other than himself is scum, but it's possible) or they can try to form a competing wagon, but that's not always easy to do, especially with so many low posters around. Nobody else seems to be getting any traction.

If you really think he is town, the best way to save him is to push someone else who is clearly more scummy. It's unlikely you will save him just by saying he is towny if you don't offer a better alternative.
