Yes, you disgraced yourself. Surviving a solo is the ultimate low. This would never have happened to Balki.

I’ll say, I didn’t find this one funny at all.

Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
Is there a leaderboard yet? Should we keep it here informally?
Mr.Green. 100
everyone else. 0

Yeah, attacking anyone you need to have on board for the draw is always a dangerous move. I'm not surprised at all this blew up in your face VI.

Yeah well, ultimately everybody attacked everybody so i thought it would balance out. Tournament players usually are less willing to throw everything away for absolute revenge for minor stabs and even then the odds were 50/50 which way it would go. I liked my chances it'd work out but Roadhog turned out to be an unexpected extreme edge case.

Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
Yeah that game should not have been a solo. And wanting revenge is one thing, but it was obvious there that VI was aiming to stop France and a 2 way wasn't possible so there was no need for a throw. Just seems like a bad read by Russia.
Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
I'm a lonely TD who wants to talk about these games with someone.
If people who are not in the tournament want a space where they can discuss some of the games, let me know - i think i'll create a private discord channel where we can do that.

Second game done and another impressive solo!! We might need a collective lesson on stalemate lines

Wow, what a dominant performance! Congrats to Diplomat554.Durga wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 2:16 pmSecond game done and another impressive solo!! We might need a collective lesson on stalemate lines

I take issue with jmo's comment about my win. I'm certainly not going to argue that I played as well as Austria in the above game, but no game of Diplomacy "should" end in a solo. Any solo represents a diplomatic failure on the part of the other players. Sometimes you're playing with people who infuriatingly refuse to set up an easy stalemate. Lord knows I've been in VI's position before and berated the players who didn't get in line. But it is his failure nonetheless.
I benefitted from Russia taking my side in the final conflict, but the fact is that Russia chose to take my side. Is that a glitch in the game? A fluke? Is the idea that I had a better relationship with Russia so unthinkable? There is no "perfect" game of Diplomacy where all players behave rationally and optimally.
So I get that the ending was weird. But it was not off-the-chart weird.
Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
Durga,
Would you post a seeding table for all the players, please, showing player WebDip screen names cross referenced with players' qualifying site and username on that sight?
It would be fun to compare the results coming in to that seeding table.
Also, those from other sites have the advantage of seeing WebDip players names and rankings, so such a seeding table would just make all that information (user names and relative ranking/seeding) available to all players, instead of just select players with accounts on other sites.
Thanks for all your TD work!

Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
Nope sorry. Seeding is private. Can't have people figuring out who is in what game based on that.chluke wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 6:23 pmDurga,

Ok on seeding, but would you please post a WebDip screen name cross reference against the original sign-up list, so we can see who is who as games finish?
Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
Another get finished! Just so I make sure I understand, how many tournament points did each player earn from this?

Re: ODC 2019 Tournament Start
It is sum of squares scoring, so the math breaks down like this:Puddle wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 2:40 pmAnother get finished! Just so I make sure I understand, how many tournament points did each player earn from this?

France: 11^2 = 121
Russia: 11^2 = 121
Turkey: 9^2 = 81
England: 3^2 = 9
But then we need to average it over the 100 points, so (121 + 121 + 81 + 9)/100 = 3.32, so we divide each by 3.32. That gives us a final point spread of:
France: 36.45
Russia: 36.45
Turkey: 24.40
England: 2.71
Not sure how the rounding will work, but that's the idea.
