New Forum Game: Coalition
Always wanted to play a forum game, but was too daunted by Mafia?
Just finished a mafia game, and looking for something to do before the next one starts?
Love diplomacy, and want to play a game that has a similar aspect of alliances and backstabs?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you are perfect to help playtest a brand new game, created by yours truly.
Coalition is a game where you must create coalitions with other players to score as many points as you can. Will you be loyal throughout the whole game? Will you try to be friends with everyone? Will you pull a fast one on those that trust you? Coalition is a blend of diplomacy and mafia. Played in 48 hour phases on the forum, it has a similar gameplay to mafia. However, the game is every man for himself, and the strategy is similar to diplomacy.
Here is a doc with more extensive rules:

I'm looking for 10-20 players to playtest through this game. Play begins on Friday, and would run for 8 phases (just over two weeks). If you miss a phase, you miss out on points, but can still jump in the next phase to try to catch up, so don't worry if you don't think you will have a ton of time. You could get on every other day for 5-10 minutes and still participate.
Post below if you are interested (also let me know if the link works).

Re: New Forum Game: Coalition
For those too lazy to click on the link, I'll give a short rundown of gameplay.
Each phase, I will post a couple different coalitions that you can create or join. The rules for how points are scored vary depending on the type of coalition you join. Creating a coalition is done publicly, and (usually) joining a coalition is done privately. At the end of the phase, I will post who was in which coalition, and how many points were scored, along with the new types of coalitions.
The link has a list of possible coalitions, but here is one of them as an example:
Note: n is the number of people in the coalition
The “Gamble” Coalition: This coalition has a normal leader and anyone can join it. Each player in a gamble coalition where n is even gains 5 points, while players in a gamble coalition where n is odd gain 1 point.
So if someone says they are going to join this coalition but don't join it, they could screw over everyone else.

And the rules are still fluid right now, so please, let me know if you don't understand something, think something is unbalanced, or have an idea for a coalition type.

Yes, game start is this Friday, Dec 14. Game start and phase changes will take place at 5 pm EST.

Yes, there is still plenty of room. Looks like we have seven people who have expressed interest. Hoping for at least three more, and can definitely do up to 20 total.

Re: New Forum Game: Coalition
I was originally thinking not... But I think it would be more fun if they were allowed. What do y'all think?
Re: New Forum Game: Coalition
Yes, I made these rather quickly, and the balancing also depends on how many players are in the game. I'll go through them and try to balance for a 10-12 player pool tonight or tomorrow morning. Suggestions welcome.
