I think the answer to this is almost certainly yes. At least, I can't find any famous enough Italian Jews from the time period who fit.

That's what I thought too, but I am a bit stumped by the fact that they weren't a head of state. I have other theories about why this person was famous, but given the other established parameters, it's hard to find anyone who fits. Of course fame is a subjective thing.

i'll say for the benefit of the guessers that the reason i hesitated on the scientist/politician question is that at the time the catholic church esp the papacy was very involved with politics so it's questionable whether being involved in religion makes someone a politician but i went with no

this person should be gettable and as a hint he has a rather unique specific source of fame

I don't know if this person fits all of the clues, but I will try Pope Gregory XIII.

I had a feeling this was one where as soon as I found the answer, I would know it was correct. I came really close to guessing Jacopo Sadoleto (known for correspondence with John Calvin) but that didn't seem right.

I remember this concept from Useful Charts (not the main video where this was discussed, but a different one), but I wouldn't have remembered the name.

Great round! Next thread will be up soon.

Was this person ever alive at a time during which the Catholic Pope was named Paul?
Also, it is funny that I went with this line of questioning. Pope Paul IV is even mentioned in the first line of his Wikipedia article!

I read his Wikipedia article, and I still don't understand what he is famous for. Could someone explain it?

so as far as i understand the way roman catholic bishops work is that every bishop is consecrated by another already existent bishop, and the idea is that you can trace these lines of consecration all the way back to jesus consecrating his disciples. rebiba is the farthest back the vast majority of current bishops can trace their line to

Thank you!

I'm sure there are absolutely zero conspiracy theories around this fact! ;)
