I've been thinking recently about 20Q strategy. My personal strategy in most of my wins is to come up with someone who fits the criteria, then try to narrow it down with that person in mind, and if they're ruled out choose a new person and repeat until I feel confident in the guess being correct, or other people have put down free guesses. I'm curious, what sort of strategies do others use?
This was mostly about asking strategies. I think it would be interesting to think about guessing strategies - at what point do you make a (free) guess? I was the first to guess in the last two rounds, with very differing outcomes.

We had briefly discussed a couple of months ago about putting together a (Diplomacy!) game of the usual 20Q crowd... is there still interest?

I would definitely play! (I think it was my suggestion in the first place :p)

that being said I would be willing to give up my spot for another 20Q regular if there isn't enough space

I would play if people can excuse my awful reliability rating

(tldr - last year I had an IRL life event that meant I had to quit playing diplomacy for a while, and I had to give up the positions I was in. All the positions were good and 3/4 ended up with points. But due to WebDip's system it tanked my RR for a year).

Is the number of people more than 7 but less than 10?

If yes, can we play it on a variant that takes place after the deconstruction of Berlin wall in 1989?

people who have shown interest:
me
sparty
SaintSimmer
damo
yavuz
aristocrat
dreamtrawler

this is a full game, but if we get enough interest we could potentially run another board. off the top of my head there's hominidae, ernst, peach, and jamie who count as 20Q regulars. potentially there are more that i haven't thought of

and yavuz's suggestion is a good idea if we can get three more players, although potentially someone might be interested in playing classic but not a variant so idk

Classic is indeed better, but I would feel more comfortable with a variant than leaving someone out.

yeah, i think it's between finding enough players for one game of a variant or finding enough players for two boards. also better to broaden the definition of "20Q regular" so we can fill a second board than to leave anybody out that wants to play

I am interested, but I also don't want to get in the way of it being Classic.

(But I would be happy to play a variant.)

what should settings be? would unranked, anonymous, and 2 day phases work for everyone? (with shorter builds and retreats unless that's only on vdip)

That works for me. Anonymous vs. non-anonymous might not make much of a difference (I'm guessing we will be able to figure out who each other are).
