1,2,3,7,8. Real dead female human being
5. Alive on January 1, 1960
4,6,9,11,12. Born in Africa, but not south of the equator, or in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or in what is now a country that borders Switzerland or the Democratic Republic of the Congo
10. Not primarily famous for government, politics, space exploration, or the arts (generally speaking)
So we can eliminate the DRC, the ROC, the CAR, South Sudan, Uganda, and any Italian islands that might be considered part of Africa (also French islands, but I think all of those are south of the equator)

Primarily famous for science?
"Okay, quick question. The Internet. That's the one with e-mail, right?"

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin is correct! She was the third woman (and first non-Curie woman) to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, awarded for her work in x-ray crystallography. Hodgkin is one of my wife's scientific heroes.

Great pick! Remembering to check the Nobel Prize list was definitely helpful here.Spartaculous wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:45 pmDorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin is correct! Dang, I almost guessed her rather than ask the question.
