@D&W: if you think I am town that's okay, but it would be nice if you would apologise to me, because if I'm town you were pretty nasty yesterday.

What about fake-claiming a HP?

It would be a very easy thing to fake as multiple HPs get passed around all the time.
If everyone provides the information on whether they were holding a HP D1, we have a good chance of knowing if anyone was fake claiming, with only a lack of information from ND making it not certain. I think a mafia member would be taking an unnecessary chance fake claiming it, so even if Chaqa was fake claiming, it still seems more likely to come from town than mafia. I am not saying it is conclusive, though, I was just answering BunnyGo's question about why I had Chaqa on my town reads list at the time.
You would know if there were too many claims.

You would have no means of finding out who was lying. When you receive a hot potato, you are not told who passed it to you.

Therefore the risk is quite small unless precisely this were to happen:

- Everyone starting the game with a hot potato honestly claimed it D1, and no-one stayed silent, AND:
- Exactly one Mafia fake claimed a hot potato they didn't actually have.

...which is quite an edge case.
If we do what I have suggested and have everyone announce who they passed potatoes to one phase delayed, we will have a good chance of finding out about any fake claims.

Are we thinking yeeting someone holding a bunch of potatoes is pro-scum or nah?

Well like, yeeting them before they can toss them is probs pro-town but should we try to avoid this situation?
The HPs still stay in the game if the holder is DKed, and still go to the player or players the DK target selected.

hmm, thinking about it, maybe EoN is still too soon to reveal. Like, if everyone knows whose vote doesn't count, then that player doesn't have a reason to try, right?

But is it worth losing track of the couch potato for that? I wanna hear some opinions, if I should reveal at EoN, during the day or at like EoD? What are the pro's and con's you think about here.
I think the CP should be tracked the same way as the SP and HPs, I don't see why we would want to lose track of it.
then, should the one holding the couch potato, in the last ten minutes or so, or when the holder can't be at EoD, before they go, vote "no kill" or themselves or something? That way we should practically always be sure who holds it and have no need for any crumbs or outings from the sender

and if people don't do stuff like that, or at least officially claim, then we have a clear pool of people who is mafia? Like, if the one I send it is mafia and they nk me tonight, and keep quiet to disentangle any information, at least we would have an idea where they hiding? Because town wouldn't have any incentive to keep quiet about it or not to comply with that kind of tracking?
I think is is a good idea for the CP holder to reveal they have it before EOD, because town not being sure of the real vote count can only help the mafia. If they don't, I think the one who passed it to them should reveal who has before EOD. I think it can wait until close to EOD so the player does not have to go the entire day with everyone knowing their vote does not count.

What exactly does claiming a hot potato do for town in the middle of D1? Until he reveals who he gave it to we don’t get any information from that. Is that a valid substitution for actually attempting to scumhunt?
It may not do anything for town immediately, but it is my opinion that keeping track of the HPs will benefit town in the long run, by preventing the mafia from secretly passing HPs to players they want to get rid of. For example, if we are able to clear any players with the SP, the mafia can't try to take them out with HPs without us knowing about it.

As for your second question, it seemed to me the a mafia holding a HP on D1 would want to keep it hidden until some consensus was reached on how to reveal the information.

Can you let us know if you were holding a HP D1?
I was not.

Mafia holding a hot potato might reasonably see revealing it as an opportunity to appear not to be mafia, especially if they see others ruminating over whether or not revealing potatoes to be a good idea or not. Why hold on to it? It's essentially zero risk to reveal it on day 1 when nobody can possibly have been towncleared yet. To that point, and to your point that there isn't much immediate benefit, I do not see how revealing a hot potato in the middle of day 1 in lieu of scumhunting is justifiable.
I did not advocate for anyone not fully participating in the game.

What happens if someone is holding potatoes and they die, and they still have unexploded potatoes. Do they take the potatoes with them or are them thrown somehere?

All I know is the potatoes randomly activate on some night and have a 25% chance after that to explode

I assumed that happened before I passed them off? Did I kill ghug on accident ?
Did you pass ghug your D1 HP?

Anyone laid down some mechanics ideas yet?

Or are we doing the whole “don’t talk about the mechanics and just find scum” thing?

Why did you vote for miminena after they claimed to have the SP?

should I move my vote to myself, so no one gets confused?

That way, I think, might even prove that I have it with the count at the end. If I had a vote I probably wouldn't move, but I guess I could change it so it's much clearer?
no, do not. If you do so I will assume you are lying.
Why were you so concerned about the possibility that Kakarroto was fake claiming the CP?

Okay what if they are thrown a potato during the phase they are killed? Are those potatoes returned back to the senders?

it happens and counter intuitively it usually ends up with a scum victory
yeah, I have a theory, that the longer mafia initially survives, the better for town is it, because when town get it right, there is a huge load of information and connections that suddenly is available.

Of course there are games where there aren't many mafia players, so that doesn't yield as much information, or games where town just doesn't get a single mafia, either by mistake or mafia just had town outmanoeuvred, but normally, when the first mafia death is on day three or four, the game gets so much clearer, and mafia's ability to hide is much decreased. And at that time, town has sharpened their will, and doesn't take the game lightly.

That's also why I like to bus early when I'm mafia, it not only disconnects to your mafia partner, it also makes it so that town gets lulled in a false sense of security, if a mafia member is voted out day one
Kak only voted ND day 1, ND was town therefore Kak is town. That it? Lol
I mean, you aren't wrong there, I just talked about what I usually would do as mafia. Haven't considered that I was wrong as so often in the early stages of the game here

I think though, there might be a game or two where I don't bus as mafia, so I guess it's not a 100% guaranteed failsafe to read me

then werw would be the mafia nk? We only had one death, and with no doc there is only one single item that can prevent any death. And I doubt mafia had holstered

Huh. Ghug is not who I was expecting to die. RIP.
Who did you expect?
Mimi or Kaka to disrupt the information flow about the whereabouts of potatoes, or Bozo who was compiling the whereabouts of potatoes.
hmm, usually I'm not a nk target, mafia often thinks I can be misvoted. I guess they thought that mimi is new enough to fall in the same category?

Thinking about it, I was only nk'ed N1 (or rather doused and later set aflame) by brain because of Chaqa, in the game with many cops, because Chaqa thought I would notice that he was mafia that game. Guess it's a slight town point for him that it didn't happen this game? But he could've been overruled.

Anyway, bozo was probably a good target too. Maybe mafia guessed correctly that he would get the safe potato? (ugh, why did my brain automatically imagine a safe made out of potato when I wrote this? That's not a very good safe) Bozo was kinda high on the town list, I think, so maybe mafia didn't want to risk hitting the potato?

I mean, another option would be that bozo is mafia, but I kinda doubt that. I mean, he would probably get much towncred for a phase or two if they hit a teammate that has that potato, but if bozo keeps surviving afterwards, we would notice that pretty fast and just vote him out.

Hmm. Yeah, it is a bit strange, thinking about it, mafia would love to get that potato out of the game as early as possible, no? Like a townclear now is much less valuable than a townclear in the later stages. So avoiding bozo for fear of hitting the potato is kinda a wrong line of thought.

Maybe it was a read of someone that lead to ghug's demise? Or they just thought that ghug was scarier than others? Hmm

There would have most likely been multiple deaths if a potato killed Ghug.
Yeah and i did double check the order so I definitely didn’t kill ghug

I also didn’t know I could nominate a backup toss so that other potato is someone random now I guess?
order? Is this something like nk goes before potato explosion?

also I neither deny nor confirm that I got that random potato (for now)
