Re: Mafia round 93: hot potato! (game thread)
Well in this particular case, if Chaqa is scum and Bozo is town, then it would appear that Chaqa's potato claim caused Bozo to townread him. See?damo666 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 2:24 pmWhat would be the scum advantage?Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 12:43 pmWhat about fake-claiming a HP?bozotheclown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 12:29 pm
It was based on I think only 2 posts, but immediately declaring to have a HP seemed like a town thing to do.
It would be a very easy thing to fake as multiple HPs get passed around all the time.

You would know if there were too many claims.bozotheclown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 2:56 pmIf everyone provides the information on whether they were holding a HP D1, we have a good chance of knowing if anyone was fake claiming, with only a lack of information from ND making it not certain. I think a mafia member would be taking an unnecessary chance fake claiming it, so even if Chaqa was fake claiming, it still seems more likely to come from town than mafia. I am not saying it is conclusive, though, I was just answering BunnyGo's question about why I had Chaqa on my town reads list at the time.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 12:43 pmWhat about fake-claiming a HP?bozotheclown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 12:29 pm

You would have no means of finding out who was lying. When you receive a hot potato, you are not told who passed it to you.
Therefore the risk is quite small unless precisely this were to happen:
- Everyone starting the game with a hot potato honestly claimed it D1, and no-one stayed silent, AND:
- Exactly one Mafia fake claimed a hot potato they didn't actually have.
...which is quite an edge case.

I had one potato D1 and I gave it away, but I am now holding two potatoes.bozotheclown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 3:23 pmUnless I missed it, bo_sox, Control V, foodcoats, ghug, rdrivera, and worcej have not indicted if they were holding an HP on D1. Please let us know before N1 is over, or let us know if you have an objection to revealing this information. To be clear, if you had one, I am not asking you to reveal who you passed it to yet.

I got a gentle reminder from Sparta. TBH I did not know there were minimum posting requirements until I caught it in my quick catch-up.bozotheclown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 3:28 pmIf DreamTrawler had not asked you that, would you have failed to meet the posting requirement, or were you aware that you needed a fifth post?
I haven't played in awhile so I kinda just had forgotten about the game

I Have actually, once in game and once in signups. But yes I obviously am not new for many reasons.ghug wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 6:16 amYou haven't told us whether you've played before.Control V wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 4:25 pmNot having a huge number of reads rn isn't exactly unexpected despite the number of wolves in game but is unfortunate, yes.JustAGuyNamedWill wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 3:14 pm
I find Control V to be putting in the bare minimum effort right now so I would be happy to vote him later on. Seems as if he made one take and dipped
Re: Mafia round 93: hot potato! (game thread)
Are we thinking yeeting someone holding a bunch of potatoes is pro-scum or nah?
Well like, yeeting them before they can toss them is probs pro-town but should we try to avoid this situation?

For the record I thought bozo was right about this from the beginning but I wanted to see if he'd actually push to make the claiming happen with nobody else forcing the issue. He has, which is town points for him, I think.

Re: Mafia round 93: hot potato! (game thread)
I think I’m honestly coming around on BUnny being town
I was thinking about it a bit earlier, and BUnny just seems… casual. A bit too casual. Its unlike the BUnny I knew from last game. He doesn’t care that much about putting on a facade
I also think BoSox is putting in good effort and I want to hold off on voting him tomorrow

Re: Mafia round 93: hot potato! (game thread)
I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again, I will always vote for who I think is the mafia is unless its to prevent a tiebo_sox48 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 2:23 amThree votes I found interesting late in day 1 (in no particular order):
Context: the final vote anyone cast on day 1. Damo moved from DW (3 votes) to Red (0 votes).
Why it's interesting: it's a completely, and knowingly, useless vote.
What I think: townish, maybe?
Presumably, damo knew that Kaka claimed to not have a vote, meaning it was hypothetically 5 (ND) to 3 (mimi) to 3 (DW). This looks like an attempt to prevent someone dumb from jumping off of ND late and tying the vote between ND and DW. But I also wonder why he didn't just vote for ND if this was the case, so I looked back through his posts and find no mention of ND even once.
It's a strange manner to avoid a tie, but, to me, it feels more like town driven behavior than it is scummy, and it draws a lot of attention scum probably don't want there. Unless I'm giving damo too much credit and he just did something ridiculously weird and useless.
---
Context: three minutes left in the phase. Will was voting for Bunny, then jumped to vote mimi, then jumped back to Bunny when mimi claimed. Nobody else was voting for Bunny.
Why it's interesting: It's a meaningless vote.
What I think: scummy.
Two minutes prior to the above vote, with five minutes left in the day, Will showed up.
Then, he voted for mimi.
Mimi then softclaimed.
Will then said he wanted to keep DW alive. At the time, DW had 3 votes against them. ND had 5 (including Kaka) and mimi had 4. Will believed he was putting mimi in the lead despite the soft.
After that, mimi hardclaimed and Will voted for Bunny.
The appropriate, and obvious, move if Will actually gave a damn about keeping DW alive and was voting with that goal in mind was to move to ND. That move, even with Kaka on the wagon, would have put ND in the lead over both DW and mimi, and arguably could have been the deciding vote. Instead, he moved to Bunny, a non-wagon, and tied the vote between ND and mimi. So I asked - did Will townread ND?
No! He did not. He wrote this post with 1 minute left in the day and with Bunny at a single vote. All I see from Will is needlessly and without much effort pushing for a wagon that does not exist and going a long way to avoid stamping his name on a miskill. In doing so, he made himself completely irrelevant at the EOD.JustAGuyNamedWill wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 8:59 pmI’m unsure of ND but I think Bunny here is a better option
---
Context: almost two hours left in the day.
Why it's interesting: it put ND in the lead without justification late in the day.
What I think: scummy.
Chaqa, when asked for an explanation for this vote, gave this.
Jamie, shortly thereafter, asked a pertinent question.
Chaqa never answered, and the former was his final post of the day. Conveniently, it was also Chaqa's fifth post of the day as well as his first and only vote of the day. I have no reason to conclude anything else other than that Chaqa a) intentionally met the exact minimum requirements to avoid a modkill, and b) left no reasoning for his vote because he didn't have any, but knows that he'll likely fly under the radar at least for awhile.
I intend to vote for Chaqa tomorrow.

Re: Mafia round 93: hot potato! (game thread)
I did not shift to Mimi after Dip quoted that she claimed the sweet potato. What exactly do you mean?DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 3:04 amI’m gonna reply to Bunny’s posts on the previous page, but before I do, I think that was a good analysis of the votes. It is really weird that Damo and especially Will were so willing to shift their vote off of the main wagons with just minutes to spare, but also claimed that they wanted Mimi (and Dip, in Will’s case) to stay alive. I’m not sure why they both dodged the obvious shift to ND, but it looks extra bad for Will to go back to voting Mimi after the couch potato and sweet potato claims.
Chaqa’s vote also looks bad in retrospect but I can’t judge too much as I was second on the ND wagon. Nevertheless the minimal explanation and posting for the vote is sus.
