We appreciate you DougJoe. Thanks for filling the position quickly and for helping lead the Yoak Restoration
Thanks!

Is that like the Meiji Restoration?

Looks like the original Turk has returned. Thanks to Darg for that and to Echidna for subbing in when needed!

Again, hope everyone is enjoying their GR games... I'm thinking maybe a gunboat set sometime later in the year?

I would play in a gunboat round. On a slightly different note, I was considering running a gunboat free-for-all tournament at some point. The idea is something like this. I would create a bunch of games (and play in many of them myself, but not all of them) - not password-protected or anything like that. Then, everyone is welcome to play in as many games as desired. A solo is worth N1 points, a 2-way draw is worth N2 points, etc., and then your score is the sum of the points you get out of your 5 (or so) best games. Should be nice and easy and clean to run.

Dude, I have had a blast playing in this game! Quality press. Plenty of drama. High stakes nerve wracking turns counting down that red timer! What more could anyone ask for?

Thanks for putting this together, DougJoe! It has been absolutely worth getting up off the bench and back into the game. :-D

Welcome! Great to hear.

Loved this last comment from Italy in game 1's global press:

"He's slim Turkey he's the real slim Turkey all you other slim Turkeys are just full of bologna"

1907 Preview: Venkman

Well, that wasn't how I expected the army in CON to be used. Russia willingly convoys the army over to his own center and attempts to support it into UKR, only for Turkey to stab, somewhat predictably, and knock Russia down to 1. I give Russia a lot of credit for this idea; I didn't see it after looking at the position for a very long time, and I think it had a chance of working. However, in addition to Turkey stabbing, Germany supports Austria into WAR, which means the alliance wouldn't have gained any builds, making it very tough to fight back against Austria. I wish it would've worked, it would have led to a dynamic position with many opportunities for everyone, but alas, Turkey mad the decision that is probably best for his game.

Germany builds army MUN and waives, which is basically a draw offer. His only real chance of soloing would be breaking into NTH anyway, which would be very telegraphed. If Germany doesn't push further east then, so the question remains if Turkey can make it to the draw. I'm inclined to say no, because that Russian army in UKR will be quite a nuisance, especially if Austria keeps Russia around long enough to build a fleet in SEV. If Germany does push east, then Austria's position become very precarious. I don't see Germany pushing East considering the waive, so I'm giving the advantage to Austria to be more likely to make the draw than Turkey.

Power Rankings:

Germany
England
Austria
Turkey
Russia
Italy
France

Yes, thank you for organising - as someone newer to WebDip it's great to have a this bridge between the game and the community, and on reflection I wish game 3 (Melnitz) was anonymous as I've been enjoying the forum banter about other games, but I think people have backed off from commenting on named games.

I like the gunboat tournament idea - gunboat needs a bit of social context around it, otherwise it can feel like a solo game.

I don't have time to set up a full-fledged gunboat tournament right now, but if you create a gunboat game or two and post on the forum, I'd be happy to join your game(s).

Welcome!

Yeah, sorry about the miss on the anon settings. That still irks me a little that I made that mistake.

I participated in a gunboat GR challenge (players ranked by gunboat GR as opposed to press GR like the current series) in 2024 and had fun doing it.

I haven't had much time to really peanut gallery either game 1 or 3, but, yes, it would be easier to do so for 3 if it was anon. Been spectating. No one has really been talking about game 2, either... it's really just helloworld82 doing commentary on G1.

I'd do commentary on G3 but I find it is a conflict of interest...

Thanks Doug Joe, and thanks to helloworld82, fun reading your commentary.
No worries about the anon setting, it's been fun having the GR challenge as a setting for a game.

In game 3, it appears that England has used up all his excused absences and has left the game.

Do the current players want a substitute? I know echidna was willing to take over positions and Klaus might want in this spot as well...

Hello! England here. Apparently I haven't yet internalized retreats are shorter.

Somehow it appears I was not kicked out, as I just entered my disband, read press and replied. Hopefully I'll remain in? Unless, of course, any substitution is a request from the other players, though I hope they'll trust me to carry it through from where we are.

Again, asking for your patience on what I've described to many as another attempt at coming back after years out, I'll take steps to ensure it does not happen again, despite retreats and build still catching me off-guard.

Thanks for checking in so quickly. Sorry that the 3/1 is throwing you off.

From the rest of the players in all the games, how are you finding the 3/1 schedule? Personally, I'm doing fine with it, I like the shorter Retreat/Build phases to keep things moving a bit with the longer negotiation phases, but I could definitely see where one's "rhythm" (for lack of a better word) might be thrown off by the non-constant schedule.

It caused issues for some players in game 1, but there have been plenty of NMR's in game 1 in regular 'diplomacy' phases. I found the excused missed turns far more annoying.

I'm good with the 3/1, and although we've had a few missed orders in game 3 I feel like players are doing what they can.

Yes, you were kicked out, but no, you weren't definitively kicked out. When you make an unexcused NMR you go into Civil Disorder and the other players see that you "Left" the game. But you just need to navigate to the game's page to rejoin, unless you have been banned for too many unexcused missed turns or someone else subbed in meanwhile - but since these are private games no one can sub in if they don't have the invite code.
