A reminder of candidacy eligibility criteria:

Candidates must have the following qualifications:
  • At least six months' involvement in the community.
  • At least five games played or one game played and one game GMed/co-GMed.
  • No prior punishment for rule infractions (pardons can be granted at the discretion of the Kouncil).
  • A candidate must self-nominate (i.e. we're not electing anyone who doesn't want to be here).

Maybe a bit early to announce this but I have expressed to darg and interest in rejoining the kouncil. Just given my interest in archiving our games and review of setups I think I would enjoy doing it again. Just as a candidate throwing my name in the hat!

I've had this idea for a game mechanic, not a theme. It's a hot potato.

One player is given the item at the start of the game. During the day, the player picks another player (the target) to give the potato to. At night, the GM flips a coin. If it comes up heads, the potato explodes and the target dies. If it comes up tails, now the target has the potato, and on the following day gets to pick a new player to throw the potato to.

There are some tweaks you can do to the above idea, but that's the basic gist. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before?

what would happen with the potato if the player who has it dies? is it taken out of circulation? would having the potato initially be treated as a power role or would it just be assigned randomly?

fun idea I'd play in a game with this mechanic

In M40 there was an item that was passed around and provided additional items but eventually randomly exploded.

You could add in a role, or maybe third party, that interacts with the potato in a special way, maybe a 3P that needs the potato to win, or a PR (mafia or town) who gets to know each of the prior holders alignment/role, or a role that can add a timer to the potato, or skew with the probability of it going off when they get it (or maybe even from afar, like a remote).

Just a few thoughts on it that initially come into my head about it.

I would think that if a player with the potato dies somehow, the potato goes with them. Potatoes don't taste like vanilla, so maybe it's a power role? In any case, potato should be given to a townie to start.

These are all interesting thoughts. The thought of making the potato remote-controlled is pretty amusing...

These are all interesting thoughts. The thought of making the potato remote-controlled is pretty amusing...
maybe there would be a town pr who starts with the potato, and can detonate it at any time. they can pass it on to anybody at first, and whoever they pass it to passes it on further, and so on. possibly they'll always know who has the potato, idk if it would be more balanced if they know or not

I think this is a very dangerous idea and you should get rid of it to someone else immediately.
