The village gathered around the village well (the water kind… NOT the ‘doing well today’ use of the word)… watching the accused’s terrified, huddled form. Almost every local was glaring, fear and hate mingled in bleary, tired eyes.
The hunt had gone on for so long. Evil known to be present.
Staring at the accused, as he was strapped to a plank. If he could FLY, he would be proven to be an evil dark-worshipper. If he failed to fly, after being hurled to the sky… he would be proven innocent.
“He’s one of THEM!” a chant started.
“How do you KNOW he is one of THEM?” a quiet voice asked, doubting…
“HE LOOKS like one of THEM!” Shouted an accuser.
“And…” muttered one… “He turned me into a Newt Gingrich!”
Everyone stared at the tall handsome man… who looked NOTHING like Newt Gingrich.
“ummm…” the one muttering man muttered… “I got better!” and cut the rope releasing the plank,
FLINGING the ACCUSED INTO THE SKY!
Ker PLOP. Bloody gooey glop spattered over the crowd. There was a lot to splat. He had not flown. At all.
