I suppose my point of view on the whole matter is a question of the difference between ok, good, and best.

Is it ok for adults to play videogames? Of course. There's nothing really wrong with it, apart from certain games, I suppose, or letting it get in the way of relationships or work.

Is it good? It can be. Certain games can sharpen one's mind, or boost reaction time, and some can be educational as a by-product. Videogames can be used to build relationships, relax, relieve stress, etc.

Is it the best thing to do? Ehh... I'd argue there are very few cases where that's true. But there may be some, and if we measure every single thing we do by whether it's the best possible use of our time... well ok that'd probably actually be a good idea, but frankly it'd be way too stressful, and there probably are some cases where playing videogames may be the best use of one's time.

So as to the original post, it's definitely ok for adults to play videogames. It can be a good thing, and even though it may not be the best thing to do, it squarely meets the mark for being ok.
