The implication is there. I'll admit, I am not aware of your full range of views on the topic. But I am aware of what you present to me, which has its implications. You should've known when you displayed it to the public (and I think you did) that that is how it would be taken. However, I will ask for clarification, and based on that I'll edit my post. Do you mean to say free Palestine from Israel or free Palestine from Hamas? Forgetting Hamas, would you say that what Israel is doing is wrong?Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 1:00 pmMy profile picture and signature make no reference to Hamas whatsoever.CaptainFritz28 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 5:43 amJamie's pfp and signature are a prime example of your concluding paragraph. Presuming that was directed towards me (I assume this due to its placement, correct me if I'm wrong), thank you displaying to us all how not to proceed in a debate, and giving us an example of a fallacy to avoid.

I mean that the Palestine people should be free and should have their own state - that is, the "two state solution" that is often talked about.CaptainFritz28 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:24 amThe implication is there. So yes, I mean free Palestine from Israeli occupation and Israeli oppression.
Forgetting Hamas (whose tactics are wrong, and whose murder of Israeli civilians I do not condone at all), I would say that what Israel is doing is wrong, yes. It has been wrong since 1948.

Also please note, there's a whole separate thread about Palestine, under the banner "War, what is it good for?" and if you want to reply to me further on Palestine, probably best take it there so that we can continue arguing about made-up gods in this thread.

Ah, yes. Solzhenitsyn. Along with Bonhoeffer, Lewis, and a few others, one of my favorite Christian authors of the 20th century.learnedSloth wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 8:10 amI'm reminded of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "Men Have Forgotten God" speech:Fluminator wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 6:12 pmI always rolled my eyes a little at religious arguments that "if you remove religion the framework of society crumbles" but we're kind of watching it in real time as our society is actively collapsing, and I wonder if the lack of religion is contributing to this.

You know, instead of starting a new one I can just bump this one.
Since last year, I feel like people have gotten a lot more Christian again, but more the "cultural heritage" way and not the "born again Christian" way.

Re: Annual Religious Thread
screw religion, forget The Big G, let's talk about the actually relevant and very important question here:
do y'all believe in santa? If you are a non-believer (heathen!!), at what age did stray from the glorious man who generously distributes gifts to the people of the world, and for what reason was your faith broken?

I live in a broadly secular country which retains some cultural trappings of Christianity.Fluminator wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:44 amAre you going to move to a country that isn't Christian then?Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 10:31 pmFuck Christianity.Fluminator wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:03 pmYou know, instead of starting a new one I can just bump this one.

I love how one of the tropes of the right is "oh well if you don't like X, then you should move to another country".
Fluminator doesn't like how the vaccine was rolled out in his country, and prefers how it was done in Sweden.
When are you going to move to Sweden, Fluminator?

Sweden is too white for me. I like the multiculturalism of Canada too much to move away.
If Canadians didn't fight back as hard as they did against governmental overreach I probably would have considered it though.

Re: Annual Religious Thread
Can it really be said of any country that it is Christian? Culturally, perhaps some, but even that is being lost. I don't know that there's a good example of a truly Christian country at the moment.Fluminator wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:44 amAre you going to move to a country that isn't Christian then?Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 10:31 pmFuck Christianity.Fluminator wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:03 pmYou know, instead of starting a new one I can just bump this one.

Re: Annual Religious Thread
Given the left's general support for mass illegal immigration (at least in the U.S.), I've only seen it as a satire of that. The fact that Taylor Swift said she'd leave the country if Trump got elected didn't help that image of the left, and the fact that one is more likely to hear "America is the worst country in the world when it comes to X," from someone on the left implies that the person making the statement would rather live anywhere else.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:03 amI love how one of the tropes of the right is "oh well if you don't like X, then you should move to another country".

But I've not actually seen it as any more than a joke. "If you hate the state of this country so much, ya might as well leave." But it seems to me that those on the right are typically more likely to be those to stay where they are no matter what.
