FlaviusAetius, if you can confirm that you are good to play as a diplomat, then I can start the process of setting this game up. I will use a random generator to assign countries to each of the diplomats, I'll create the game and share the password with the generals (and the link here so the diplomats can spectate) then create the game thread for the diplomats to use. Stay tuned.

Also, if anyone wants to slot their name in as a potential sub that could also come in handy.

So, should this game be considered DSS or SoS? I know it's unranked but I think there's still a difference in the playstyles

Good point, I'd say we consider it something SoS style, so that there can still be a "winner" of sorts in case of a draw, though I won't bother calculating exact SoS results.

I've seen some IRL Diplomacy matches just award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place based on who has the most centers at a certain date, and I would be down to do that as well so that we have a timer of sorts.

I don't want to change things now that the negotiations have started, so let's have the game end how it normally would with a draw or solo. But I do think that a timer like that can be a useful mechanism to end a game at a predictable time.

I would vouch for the unconventional Jay system (https://brotherbored.com/guest-post-the-two-tier-scoring-system/) –– seems suitable for a casual special game like this, with a board-topper ("winner") but also with DSS-style reasonable spoils.
