This line of reasoning completely misses the point of why pressure voting works.

Let’s say I actually think Chaqa is mafia here for whatever reason. In a normal game, I park my vote on him and try to grill him on whatever my reason is. Maybe Chaqa doesn’t care and blows me off. But maybe he is worried I’m onto him. He then tries to persuade me I’m wrong, and in doing so, he has to take committal stances that can potentially expose him later. He takes this risk because I hold the potential reward of unvoting him and voting for someone who might be town instead.

Here? He just laughs me off and focuses on the rest of the game. I no longer have any leverage on him, so he no longer has a reason to engage me. If he’s too blatant about blowing me off, maybe the other players get concerned. But that’s pretty easy to stage manage.
I guess we fundamentally think differently about votes in games - I don't feel "pressure" from votes unless I am a PR and it's near the end of a phase or I won't be able to claim near EoP.

If you choose not to engage with me because I have now permanently voted for you, that's more scummy than towny immediately and people should see that if they're actually looking for scum.
This raises a cool meta discussion topic. I also haven’t ever really felt “pressure” from votes. I get mad at people for voting me because it’s dumb, but dying is the best part of mafia. It means you get to stop trying.

Join me and vote for him?
Not yet lol that was a joke. I disagree with Eden and think that without the bot, the soft vote mechanic is probably mafia-sided, but I don't think based on his reasoning and wording that it was scummy but rather him just being dumb. Open to having my mind changed by you that it was scummy or by Eden that he's right, but for me, I think town is going to be active early while scum plays a little apprehensive during D1 of a double day, before pushing onto town-generated wagons on town in the mid-to-end of D1.
Eden isn't dumb. He's very calculating.

He can be wrong, but if you think he's dumb here then I think you're mistaken for that reasoning.
Nah man he’s also dumb sometimes. This is him:

General question about this game in particular (to all)

is the better strategy to vote who you consider to be most dangerous as sum or who you consider to be least useful as town?
Where’s the “vote the suspects” option lol. These sound like alignment-agnostic considerations. Not a ton of time to screw around with either IMO.
I meant in the absence of data like typical day ones and also because two die.

I think we should be cautious about voting rather than gung ho. So I don't like worcej's early votes but I don't scum him for it.

Eden's soft voting suggestion (now thankfully abandoned) I think came from a town pov.

Yes Chaqa you fucked up!

I suspect at least one mafia yet to post.

I doubt I'll cast any votes until near EOD.

These permavotes are dangerous.

@GM

Is it 48 hour days and 24 hour nights?

What happens in an n-way tie for first where n>3?

Both of those are bad ideas, I think we should be pretty liberal with our first vote, put people on the hot seat and understand that it can change pretty quickly

In the meantime we can use &&s to soft vote.

&&vote chaqa
This requires someone to track it, the person who is "tracking" that soft vote does a lot without doing anything not good!

Not having a bot is gonna be cheeks lol.

That’s all I got for now
I actually think it might be better there's too much fake analysis that occurs in these games, we need more raw takes

Hi There! I’m just gonna be fully transparent here and admit that this is my first mafia game. Brain ran me through what all the different terms and such are, but I am definitely going to be learning. Another plus is that my hubby has forced me to watch SNG and especially all of the Q episodes, so at least I understand that!

Not 100% sure what we are supposed to talk about? Do you all just start throwing out suspicions to see what happens?

Looking forward to it!
First mafia game here, online on a forum, or just period ever?
I think even if you have never played mafia, understanding the basic concept is pretty easy I mean there's a reason amogus grew so popular, mafia forum tho is a wholeeeee different ball game

Boooooo

I think I know why you did as well bc if this post you quoted is the reason you voted me, im assuming you think I would be excited to start the game as scum and thus would be the first to post

Am I right or am I right lol
I just dont understand the post, usually in the start of the game people are trying to break the ice and get people talking , you definetly didnt do that with your first post, ontop of that you also said " Second " not FIRST. ummm? You were first so why type second

I think it's better to just hunt for scum lmao, but that being said, when all else is equal in terms of my scum sus on a series of people I'll generally vote for the least useful of those people and in my experience it has borne out in history as the better things to do.

When we got rid of shit town early and tracked VCA we tended to do well and when I was mafia, I explicitly tried to force the opposite to occur by going on what I thought at the time to be a suicide run to get rid of durga.
I don't like this take only because you're implying we have free time here to employ VCA.

We have 2 miskills boss - you don't have the luxury to just toss one out.
I am pretty sure this is false, we have 9 people at the start, two miskills brings us down to 7, mafia kill one, now its 6. 4 town vs 2 mafia we still can win the game. Even THREE miskills D1 with that scenario Jamie pointed wouldnt mean gameover

You seem awfully concerned with mechs for someone who scumread me for mechs

You also are worried about wasting MKs while throwing two votes on people off 2 pages
" awfully concerned about mechs"
???
That would mean worcej talked about mechs for hours not...like three posts
