Trump shot at by his own supporters during rally
Trump was shot at by gun toting right wingers during a rally today. Reports indicate that no good guy with a gun was present to react. And no bad guys with guns were present to assist either. Trump was carrying an anti tank weapon which was not enough to stop crime.

Reinforces my belief that it’s pretty likely that whichever candidate wins is decently likely to die in office (whether it be by assassination, age, or something else…).

Trump shot at, man at rally murdered
I suspect a lot of people will regret the poorly chosen comments they put on the internet tonight once the heat of the moment has passed.
Credit to Biden for his dignified response.
Best wishes to Trump, and the family of the man who was killed

I do not support Trump politically, but have no desire for the man to be killed. Political disagreement is not synonymous with enmity. Political violence is worse than useless in that it often achieves exactly the opposite of the intended result.
I respect President Biden's response and see him as a man who rejects all forms of political violence. That's good and very reassuring. I'm glad to have President Biden and his administration in office. He is a good man in a crisis.

I echo Octavious with best wishes for all affected by yesterday's stupid, senseless act.

Brainbomb seems to know a surprising amount about the shooter (or as he claims, multiple shooters), including the motive, and the surprising allegation that there was more than one gunman.
Perhaps the FBI needs to have a look at Brainbomb's hard drive.

Seems like it was a 20 year old Republican with an AR-15 who was wearing a Demolition Ranch (a popular 2nd Amendment website/YT channel) shirt.
There are conflicting reports about whether or not he had previously donated to democratic stuff, but some reports are saying it’s either an older man with the same name or a man with a similar name. We will see

My understanding that being a "registered Republican" is nothing more than ticking a box when you register to vote. That, in no meaningful sense, is sufficient evidence to declare him a Republican. I am a former member of the Conservative party, the Labour Party, and the Liberal Democrats. The majority of my memberships were in order to get free beer at uni. UK party membership is a bigger deal than US party registration and, as you can see, this very much doesn't allow you to draw any conclusions.
It's also worth noting that you do not attempt to assassinate the chief of the vampires by dressing up in your finest werewolf costume. You try your best to look like another vampire.

Hes a registered republican who also donated 15 dollars to a democrat cause. Hes never voted before.

Re: Trump shot at by his own supporters during rally
When I first made the thread I was never considering assassination motives. I assumed that it was radical trump supporters shooting guns into the air randomly and a bullet hit trump in the stupidity. This story took a much darker turn and I would never wish trump to be assassinated; he simply is someone I dont agree with politically; especially; ON GUNs

That hasn’t been confirmed. The reports I saw said the donation was from a 25 year old named Matthew Crookes, not the shooter

Re: Trump shot at by his own supporters during rally
Again, it is pretty irrelevant. Even if he had donated his life savings to the Biden Memorial Library I don't see how it changes anything. He is a person that both sides are 100% clear does not in any sense act for or represent them. Whether he was a poor fool who believed all the crap about Trump being a fascist and a direct threat to America (which seems most likely) or someone who believed that Trump was an agent of God and was proving that he was protected by angels and invincible (stranger things have happened) doesn't really matter.
The two key points are firstly that Trump has been in the middle of a major and very public crisis and, much to the annoyance of millions of people in America and across the world, handled it magnificently.
Secondly, the secret service seem to have been almost criminally inept. A teenage gamer would have been able to organise a far more robust defence. Questions must be urgently answered
As things stand the election is looking like it's Trump's to lose.

It should be irrelevant but it won't be. The perceived political identity of the shooter is going to be hugely important.

And of course Republican voices are now saying "God saved Trump". That implies he's more worthy of being saved than whole classes of children. Fuck off.

Out of curiosity, Jamie, what would be your preference if you were magically given godlike powers for an instant and could either use them to give Trump an epiphany that would result in him withdrawing from the race, or cure a kid with terminal cancer? Where do you stand on the "which is more important" front?
The worth of an action such as this from the perspective of a true God who likes the hands on approach is, of course, a very different calculation as the God sees the fallout of that action for infinite generations into the future. But the idea that such a God would interfere that way, instead of taking the far more obvious approach of whispering the idea of putting the SS on that very obvious position into the head of their commander (or sending a dream to the shooter the night before in which he's given an ice cream, told he can do a lot of good, and that shooting people is not the way to do it) seems ever so slightly bloody daft.

I'm reacting to Republicans saying God intervened to deflect the bullets from killing Trump. I agree the entire scenario is daft. It's also repulsive.Octavious wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 4:44 pmOut of curiosity, Jamie, what would be your preference if you were magically given godlike powers for an instant and could either use them to give Trump an epiphany that would result in him withdrawing from the race, or cure a kid with terminal cancer? To your first question, I'd be God, so I'd do both.

You see? Not so easy, is it? You have to resort to dodging the question rather than finding it a straightforward answer.
For me obviously it's the kid, but that's because I don't give a damn whether Trump is elected or not. But these Republican voters deeply care and believe that Trump becoming President will be a really big deal... and you very much have that in common

I'm not dodging the question.
The Christian God, as described to me, could choose both.

Re: Trump shot at by his own supporters during rally
Octavious appears to believe in a kind of God that is not omnipotent. This is interesting, but I believe it is a side-show. I assume most Republicans believe in the traditional God, who, in their fucked-up imagination, would intervene to save Donald Trump from a bullet, but who wants infants to be shot dead.
