While Balki is being dragged to the town jail through the dusty streets, one man drifts off from the angry mob, uneasy about what is happening. As he wanders through the deserted streets of this small town, a gun peeks out from around a corner.

One man, unaware of the goings-on in the town today because he was bedridden with the pox this morning, stumbles out onto the street, confused about the eerie silence that has fallen over the town. However - the street is silent no more when a shadowy figure steps out from the door across the street and shoots!

The crowd jumps, startled. "It was that way!" "It was this way!" People dash through the streets, frightened, but one finds that a left-over box of fireworks had been kicked over in the commotion and went off.

The sheriff tries to round everybody up after that brief scare so that the events of the day can be discussed. He sees one figure dip into an alley way away from the crowd, and follows. He walks around ten feet into the cool shadow between the buildings before the figure jumps out - "Got you!"
