There was a direction I was headed here, but that direction ended up clearly not being anything. Sorry for asking a silly question.Spartaculous wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:42 amPass. This is a pass on principle unless I get clarification (you can reask, if desired, after clarification). Given that we have a fictional character, I can think of many ways in which answering this question would be difficult. Some characters may be known by multiple names (for example, Gandalf/Mithrandir/Tharkûn/Olórin), or some characters may be nameless (to continue the theme from the previous round, I will cite the "whiskey priest" from The Power and the Glory).
My pass her should not necessarily be taken to imply that we are in one of these situations; it is possible that I picked someone like Harry Potter and there's no issue here.

No worries! I just wasn't sure how to handle the edge cases highlighted here.Hominidae wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:26 amThere was a direction I was headed here, but that direction ended up clearly not being anything. If yes - Godot?

I think that my point here is that the point of the game is to ask yes/no questions, not yes/no/pass questions. If it seems like there is a relatively high chance of a "pass" answer, then I would like to know from the questioner how I should handle these edge cases before answering. (If Hominidae, or anyone else, indicated that nameless characters should receive answers of "no", and that characters with multiple names should receive answers based on their most commonly used name, then I would have answered it.)Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 11:37 amMinor objection:Spartaculous wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:42 amPass. Harry Potter's full name is "Harry James Potter". His full first name is "Harry". This is not controversial or likely to be misunderstood. "Harry" does not contain the letter "o".
If you had picked Harry Potter you would be obliged to answer "no" to the question above.
