Well, if a box holder claims and says who they are passing the box to, if scum act like worcej says they will, they would want to continue to kill whoever the box got passed to, thus the person holding the box would be able to "direct" the next kill based on who they pass the box to.
I don't see how your idea would benefit the town at all - assuming the box is in the mafia hands, which they wouldn't know yet because no QT discussion, by claiming it they would benefit more from the claim.

If the item is in a townies hand, then they would be getting a free elimination of the item unless doctor saves, which forces the doctor's save immediately instead of possibly protecting a PR - unless the box holder is also a PR... but that would still make the holder an obvious target down the road.
The benefit of claiming is that it limits the power of the box if it gets in mafia hands by forcing the mafia to give away its location. While it is more likely in town hands now, every night it gets moved gives the mafia another chance to obtain it, if they did not get lucky and have it already. Without claims, once the mafia get the box, they can perform a list, NK the player who gave them the box, then pass the box among themselves.
I think the List will only give a result at EON, so Mafia can't NK the player who gave the box in the same night.
I don't think claiming the Box benefit town in the first days, maybe later considering we might need the protective power (considering it's in town hands) and also that some itens could reveal the former box owners.

As a fairly regular GM it really, really annoys me when someone says the GM is outright lying about the setup. Any GM who would do that isn't fit to GM - and to accuse Foxcastle of this, as Worcej has done, is totally insulting and he should apologise.
This sounds like it's really important to you. I suggest that you write a strongly worded letter after this game is over to secure that apology for Foxcastle.

For now, please tell us who is scum and why.
ND is scum. I have explained why I think this.

I also have a theory Worcej may be scum. It goes like this:
- Worcej is scum and drew the Box.
- Worcej attempts to persuade town of a false narrative that the GM would rig the setup to have the Box be guaranteed to start on a Roman.
- If town swallows this muck, then later if it is found Worcej had the Box, he can claim to be a townclear.

Pandora's Box is good for Town. The possible rewards are generally better for town than for scum. There are going to be a lot more Mafia kills than Town kills in this game, so rewards such as First Aid and Bulletproof vest are Town-sided. There is also a Cop/Role Scan that is generally Town-Sided. And there are up to 2 Oracle reveals in there that are massively Town sided.

If Scum start with Pandora's Box, and then pass it among themselves, they risk having up to two of their members automatically outed with Oracle reveals, and they risk having everyone who touched the box brought to the light of day late in the game when a Townie gets the box and orders "List." I suppose they could hold on to the Box until it explodes to prevent that from happening, but then they suffer a Boxkill on top of the potential Oracle reveals.

I don't think we need to worry too much about the Box right now. We definitely do not want a reveal today, and we'll have much more information in subsequent days to discuss potential reveals later. For now, we should focus on lynching scum.

Just hold off on claiming the box for a while, and wait to say who you passed the box to until they have passed the box. If scum got the box to start, they would love to not say who they are passing it to and just pass it between themselves until the last item. IMO we need to have claims at some point to have a verifiable trail for going into late game
This logic you explained is why I believe that the box HAD to start in a town players hands because it would make scum so OP and almost impossible to stop.
I agree that it would be very difficult to overcome, but this is also why we need to claim at some point, in case the box does start with scum.
but even if we as the general town know who has the box (assuming that the player tells the truth to begin with) how exactly does that help us know who is scum and who is not?

The list action can only be used 1 or 2 times, so the mafia could use up the lists before passing the box to town once they take the four items that are safe from explosion.

In my opinion, making more information about the box public is more beneficial than harmful, but there have been some good points made about the down side of box claiming. In any case, it is obvious that there is not enough consensus on the subject for it to happen.

I like the deep dive of thought on this one honestly. It would require me to actually be scum and also have the box to make it work though...

Too early in the day for me to go that route. Unfortunately he is playing in his typical town form, which also makes me struggle to throw him up.

I have stated this time and time again, I firmly believe that Town is in a better position without Jamiet making it to the end game than we are with him in it. And thus, we lose nothing from lynching him day one. Because he's either gonna lose us the game or eventually be a mislynch anyway.

And now he's going to scream at me for being an evil bitch. Which I guess is true.

This theory is so convoluted. No way if Worcej is scum that THIS is his plan to get towncleared. You're reaching as bad as Y2k and BB that one game. I feel like you are just out to get blood this game in any way possible.

Ok I read the setup. This is a very HR-esque type of game. Interesting, would be more balanced in it was a lawyer instead of godfather and the observer didn't get to know who did the visiting and who was visited. That 3 time use driver tho

can you please stop, this is so easy to lie about, how would you even confirm, who is going to say no?? why are you already asking silly questions, why ARE YOU LIKe this?
Because before the game began there were people outright saying they were going to go full Chaqa and not read it. I want to see if anyone is so bold as to make such a claim now.
I did not even receive a role pm actually
