Being a composer would be none of those I supposeHominidae wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:16 pmIf the answer to my question ends up being "no", I'm interested to know if this is being interpreted by the QM as encompassing all "arts" as usually defined in these games, or if there are arts that are neither visual nor performing nor literary.Aristocrat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 1:29 pmPrimarily famous for 1) athletics, or 2) visual, performing, or literary arts (the latter including writing generally), or 3) both?

But composing is generally done with the intent that someone will perform it, so I think it falls under performing arts.DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:21 pmBeing a composer would be none of those I supposeHominidae wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:16 pmIf the answer to my question ends up being "no", I'm interested to know if this is being interpreted by the QM as encompassing all "arts" as usually defined in these games, or if there are arts that are neither visual nor performing nor literary.Aristocrat wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 1:29 pmPrimarily famous for 1) athletics, or 2) visual, performing, or literary arts (the latter including writing generally), or 3) both?
Maybe someone could create a work of art that's only intended to be touched and not seen.

I could see music composition falling outside of those categories depending on how the QM defines it. Other possibilities - culinary arts, architecture, game design? This is giving me ideas...Hominidae wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:37 pmBut composing is generally done with the intent that someone will perform it, so I think it falls under performing arts.

The intention was to exclude “invention (Rubik’s cube) as an art” and similar but I guess someone could still say that making a toy is a visual art.Hominidae wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:37 pmBut composing is generally done with the intent that someone will perform it, so I think it falls under performing arts.

The dream scenario is it's yes to born in Europe, no to Indo-European, yes to Catholic, and then we all pull up Wikipedia "list of Hungarian Catholics" or something like that.

Sorry - I thought the question was being scratched (I read the edit too quickly). Yes to the original question.JECE wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 2:07 pmMurdered before age 3, didgeridoo artist or born in Europe, as defined by the Ural Mountains, the Ural River and the Caucasus Mountains and the Western notion counting people's age?
Edit:
Withdraw the previous question and replace with this if not born in Eurasia:
Murdered before age 3, didgeridoo artist or born in America, the continent?
Will answer the rest in a bit.
Re: Twenty questions, round 319
I'm going to ask another question: born in what is currently Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Spain, France, Germany, Malta, Italy, or Portugal?

From the Julia Child round: she was named to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her work was classified as a visual art by them.DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 3:45 pmI could see music composition falling outside of those categories depending on how the QM defines it. Re: Twenty questions, round 319
I was reflecting on the fact that the words "Is this person" were likely missing from this question: DreamTrawler probably meant "Is this person primarily famous for...".DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:07 pmPrimarily famous for being a religious leader, theologian, philosopher, scientist, mathematician, historian, and/or inventor?
Then, I realized that the answer to this amended question would depend on what the meaning of the word "is" is.
Anyways: I think that "Yes." is the best answer to this question.

Re: Twenty questions, round 319
Little lost here. I assume those two sentences would mean the same thing? Just like “Was this person born in X?” vs “Born in X?” What did you mean by the definition of the word “is”?Spartaculous wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 7:09 pmI was reflecting on the fact that the words "Is this person" were likely missing from this question: DreamTrawler probably meant "Is this person primarily famous for...".DreamTrawler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:07 pmPrimarily famous for being a religious leader, theologian, philosopher, scientist, mathematician, historian, and/or inventor?
