Does this creature appear in Greek, Roman, Norse, or Celtic myth?
Yes.
Is this a deity?
Yes.
I am unclear on what the point of making summaries is, if they're not guaranteed to be accurate. You also inadvertently gave away that it wasn't a real non-human.
A. The summaries are intended to be helpful. If you don't find them so, don't use them, and troll through the dozens of posts to find each individual question and answer. It makes no difference to me.
B. What did I give away? The fact that this was a fictional entity was confirmed by DreamTrawler's question: "If no - fictional robot, alien, or mythological creature (i.e. dragon, vampire, angel, demon etc)?"

1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10. Deity from Greek, Roman, Norse, or Celtic myth.
7. First introduced before 1501.

I'll add some clarity to the human / deity thing. Consider it a hint. Like many deities of the traditions we are dealing with, this deity may have taken human form from time to time. But this person was clearly neither (a) a real person; or (b) a person who in the mythology in question was clearly human (like Achilles).

Member of the Aesir?
No.

I'm also going to expand the hint, as I'm afraid of sowing confusion: This entity's essence is not clearly human or divine. There are different interpretations. It may be a partly-divine human, or a partly-human deity.

1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11. Deity from Norse, or Celtic myth.
12. Not a member of the Aesir.
7. First introduced before 1501.

Not:
Loch Ness Monster (Wattsthematter).
The Morrigan (DreamTrawler).

Shouldn't have used my guess so prematurely - I have an inkling who it might be.

What I often do in that situation is ask a narrowing question, and a conditional guess. Then, if your the condition is not met, your guess doesn't count; and if the condition is met and you're wrong, at least you've helped the group.

See, for instance, your summary here:

Real human born in Northern Hemisphere?
No.
Real human born in the Americas, Africa, or Oceania?
No.

1,2. Either fictional; or born in southern hemisphere (but not Americas, Africa or Oceania.
A real animal, like Punxsutawney Phil or Harambe, would satisfy the answers to the first two questions, but not your summary.

Fair enough. But surely no one is complaining about getting hints now, are they?

Rhiannon
CORRECT! Rhiannon, from Welsh folklore. "One of the great female personalities in World literature".

I thought it would be much harder still; there were many other female figures from Celtic mythology. I was hoping it would get to #19 at which time I would have given this hint: this figure became much more popular in the 1970's due to a reference to her in pop culture.

Congratulations, Hominidae. I hope my inaccurate and over-generous summaries didn't throw anyone else off too much.

Huh, never would've gotten that.

Good game though! Nothing wrong with the hint, I think I just took the "may have taken human form from time to time" line to mean this was a shapeshifter of some kind like Loki or The Morrigan.

Great pick! I got lucky looking through the list of Celtic deities, although I have heard of Rhiannon before.

Next thread will be up in a few hours. Also I will explain my point about summaries more clearly when I have more time. Obviously I'm not against summaries.

On summaries: I think they are great. I make summaries all the time, when I'm QM and when I'm not, and I find it helpful when others make them. Cdngooner, I appreciate that you take the time to make a summary on almost every post when you're QM. But if the summaries are not always accurate, it seems like they don't help as much as they're intended to.
